In very shallow water acoustic communication channel, underwater acoustic (UWA) communication signal is observed as frequency selective fading signal due to time-varying multipath. This induces a time and frequency dependent inter-symbol-interference (ISI) and degrades the UWA system performance. There is no study about how the performances of the error correction codes are related to a multipath fading statistics in very shallow water. In this study, the characteristics of very shallow water multipath fading channel is analyzed and the performances of two different forward error correction (FEC) codes are compared. The convolution code (CC) and Reed-Solomon (RS) code are adopted. Sea experimental results show that RS code is better choice than CC in frequency selective channel with fading.
According to the Korea Urban Air Mobility (K-UAM) Concept of Operation (ConOps), the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is recommended as the primary navigation system and the performance specification will be implemented considering the standard of Performance Based Navigation (PBN). However, by taking into account the characteristics of an urban environment and the concurrent operations of multiple UAM aircraft, the current PBN standards for civil aviation seem difficult to be directly applied to an UAM aircraft. Therefore, by referring to technical documents published in the literature, this paper examines the feasibility of applying the proposed performance requirements to K-UAM, which follows the recommendation of navigation performance requirements for K-UAM. In accordance with the UAM ConOps, the UAM aircraft is anticipated to maintain low altitude during approach and landing phases. Subsequently, the navigation performance degradation could occur in the urban environment, and the primary degradation factor is identified as multipath error. For this reason, to ensure the safety and reliability of the K-UAM aircraft, it is necessary to analyze the degree of performance degradation related to the urban environment and then propose an alternative aid to enhance the navigation performance. To this end, the aim of this paper is to model the multipath effects of the GNSS in an urban environment and to carry out the simulation studies using the real GNSS datasets. Finally, the initial navigation performance requirement is proposed based on the results of the numerical simulation for the K-UAM.
The reference stations in a satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS) collect raw data from global navigation satellite system (GNSS) to generate correction and integrity information. The multipath signals degrade GNSS raw data quality and have adverse effects on the SBAS performance. The currently operating SBASs (WAAS and EGNOS, etc.) survey existing commercial equipment to perform multipath assessment around the antennas. For the multi-path assessment, signal power of GNSS and multipath at the MEDLL receiver of NovAtel were estimated and the results were replicated by a ratio of signal power estimated at NovAtel Multipath Assessment Tool (MAT). However, the same experiment environment used in existing systems cannot be configured in reference stations in Korean augmentation satellite system (KASS) due to the discontinued model of MAT and MEDLL receivers used in the existing systems. This paper proposes a test environment for multipath assessment around the antennas in KASS Multipath Assessment Tool (K-MAT) for multipath assessment. K-MAT estimates a multipath error contained in the code pseudorange using linear combination between the measurements and replicates the results through polar plot and histogram for multipath assessment using the estimated values.
In a mobile ad hoc networks, multi-hop transmission is used to transfer data from source node to destination node and the routing protocol is the one of the important technical issues. The links between nodes can be unstable due to the changes of node location and channel conditions, and it can induce link error. To solve this problem, multipath routing was proposed. Multipath routing can reduce the data congestion and increase data throughput. In the multipath routing, however, each path can be interfered by the other path, and it can aggravate network performance. In this paper, we propose the multipath routing technique in the multi-rate MANET. The proposed multipath routing can avoid interference without the knowledge of node location. Simulation results show that the proposed multipath routing can reduce transmission delay and error.

In this paper, an equalization technique for OFDM(orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) in a time-variant multipath fading environment is described. A loss of subchannel orthogonality due to time-varying multipath fading channels leads to interchannel interference (ICI) which increases the error floor in proportion to Doppler frequency. A simple frequency-domain equalizer which can compensate the effect of ICI caused by time variation of multipath fading channel is proposed by modifying the previous frequency-domain equalization technique with taking into account only the ICI terms significantly affecting the error performance. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated via computer simulation by applying it to OFDM systems when the multipath fading channel is slowly time variant.
This paper analyzes DLL(Delay lock loop) under the multipath fading effects. The evaluated performance measures include the steady-state timing error probability density function (PDF) and the mean-time-to-lose-lock (MTLL) under multipath fading effects. The discriminator characteristic S(${\epsilon}$) is shown to be zero at the point of timing error ${\epsilon}_{0}$ that is not zero, and the MTLL decreases as the delayed signal power $g_{2}$ and delayed time ${\tau}_{d}$ increase. We approximate the steady-state timing error PDF linearly with these variables and evaluate the steady-state timing error PDF and MTLL. The severe multipath fading effects result lower MTLL, in this case we make MTLL larger by increasing the early-late discriminator offset ${\Delta}$. First, we calculate the timing error point ${\epsilon}_{0}$, and present the performance of DLL under multipath fading. The timing error PDF, MTLL and the performance of DLL with ${\Delta}$ are also investigated. And we conclude that the larger ${\Delta}$ makes a higher MTLL and a better performance of DLL under multipath fading effects.
In this paper, a semi-analytical approach is proposed for DSF(Decode and Selective Forward)-Relay MC-CDMA(MultiCarrier-Code Division Multiple Access) systems over multipath Rayleigh fading channels. Considering BER(bit error rate) performance and complexity, the MMSE-C(Minimum Mean squared Error-per subCarrier) is used as the combining method for MC-CDMA systems. At first, the analytical method based on error-events at relay nodes for DSF-Relay schemes is utilized in order to derive the averaged BER. Then, the averaged BER is expressed as the form considering possible all error-events. Also, proposed semi-analytical expressions have been verified by comparing with simulation results. Finally, it is verified that the derived analytical expressions can be a frame work to cover different multipath Rayleigh fading channel conditions and to measure the upper performance for DSF-Relay MC-CDMA systems.
This paper presents a method to suppress multipath induced by pulses using supervised learning. In modern electronics, pulses have been used for various purposes such as communication or distance measurements. Like other signals, pulses also suffer from multipath. When a pulse and a multipath are overlapped, the original pulse shape is distorted. The distorted pulse could result in communication failures or distance measurement errors. However, a large number of samples available from a pulse can be used to effectively reject multipath by using a supervised learning method. This paper introduces how a supervised learning method can be applied to Distance Measuring Equipment. Simulation results show that multipath induced distance measuring error can be suppressed by 10 ~ 45 percent depending on the allowed pulse shape variation allowed in a standard.

Underwater communication is affected by reverberation and noise characteristics of the underwater channel and time delay takes place by multipath. Hence, Signal is distorted and a lot of error is generated in the transmitting/receiving by multipath effects, so a channel coding for error correction is required. We propose a channel coding algorithm which is possible to correct error of received signal. We compare and analyze BER(bit error rate) performance depending on the depth of each transmitter-receiver using channel coding algorithm. QPSK was used as a modulation method, and 1/2 code rate convolution coding was used as a coding rate. A convolution coding method shows increase of BER performances.

Underwater communication has multipath error because of reflection by sea-level and sea-bottom. The multipath of underwater channel causes signal distortion and error floor. The excessive multipath encountered in underwater communication channel creates inter symbol interference, which is a limiting factor to achieve a high data rate and bit error rate performance. Therefore, to increase throughput efficiency and improve performance, this paper consider FTN (Faster-than-Nyquist) signalling based on turbo equalization. FTN signalling is a technique of transmitting information at a rate higher than the allowed Nyquist limit. This paper presented efficient decoder structure of FTN transmission in the environment of multipath underwater channel and we compare the performance between FTN method and conventional punctured method in lake experimentation. As a results of lake experiment, we confirmed FTN method based on turbo equalization is applicable and efficiency in underwater communication.
