Transmit Antenna Selection for Multi-user MIMO Precoding Systems with Limited Feedback

  • Transmit antenna selection techniques are prominent since they exploit the spatial selectivity at the transmitter side. In the literature, antenna selection techniques assume full knowledge of the channel state information (CSI). In this paper, we consider that the CSI is not perfectly known at the transmitter; however, a quantized version of the channel coefficients is fed back by the users. We employ the non-uniform Lloyd-Max quantization algorithm which takes into consideration the distribution of the channel coefficients. Simulation results show that the degradation in the BER of the system with imperfect CSI at the transmitter is tolerable, especially when the transmit diversity order is high.

  • In this paper, we propose the adaptive beamforming algorithm for the MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Out)-OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access)system to improve the performance. The performance of MIMO-OFDMA systems is greatly decreased in the wireless channel environment with multiusers, because the received signals are much distorted by a cochannel interference (CCI) during the space-time decoding. The proposed approach can track the DOA of each signal from the multiple antennas of the desired user without being greatly dependent on the impinging angle. And beams are directed toward the multiple transmitters of the desired user while null beams are directed toward interference directions. Therefore, we can can effectively cancel CCI and mitigate the impairment of delay spread while preserving the STC(space time code) diversity. BER performance improvement is investigated through computer simulation by applying the proposed approach to MIMO-OFDMA system in a multipath fading channel with CCI.

  • IEEE 802.11 무선랜에서 다중사용자 다이버시티 기법 위에 채널 다이버시티 기법을 적용함으로써 다중사용자 다이버시티 기법이 얻을 수 있는 최대 이득보다 더 큰 이득을 추구한다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 기존 다중사용자 다이버시티 기법 위에 수행될 기회적 채널 전환 기법을 제안하고 단말기의 수, 채널 수, 채널 전환 지연 시간, 사용자의 평균 채널 상태 등을 변경해가면서 성능 평가를 수행한다.

Performance Analysis of CDMA-OFDM System via Cooperative Communication in Wireless Fading Environment

  • Signal distortion due to the path loss, shadow, and multi-path fading is very serious in radio channel. In this paper, we propose CDMA-OFDM cooperative communication system based on DFP(Decode and Forward Protocol) to overcome these phenomena using spread spectrum technique, orthogonal sub-carrier, and the space diversity. We simulated proposed system under Rayleigh flat fading channel environment. A variety of simulation results reveal the cooperation can provide performance gain of up to 12 dB over direct communications in ideal inter-user case at BER of $10^{-3}$. And we can also confirm variation of diversity effect as channel environment changes.

Energy-aware Multi-dimensional Resource Allocation Algorithm in Cloud Data Center

  • Energy-efficient virtual resource allocation algorithm has become a hot research topic in cloud computing. However, most of the existing allocation schemes cannot ensure each type of resource be fully utilized. To solve the problem, this paper proposes a virtual machine (VM) allocation algorithm on the basis of multi-dimensional resource, considering the diversity of user's requests. First, we analyze the usage of each dimension resource of physical machines (PMs) and build a D-dimensional resource state model. Second, we introduce an energy-resource state metric (PAR) and then propose an energy-aware multi-dimensional resource allocation algorithm called MRBEA to allocate resources according to the resource state and energy consumption of PMs. Third, we validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by real-world datasets. Experimental results show that MRBEA has a better performance in terms of energy consumption, SLA violations and the number of VM migrations.

Sparse Index Multiple Access for Multi-Carrier Systems with Precoding

  • In this paper, we consider subcarrier-index modulation (SIM) for precoded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with a few activated subcarriers per user and its generalization to multi-carrier multiple access systems. The resulting multiple access is called sparse index multiple access (SIMA). SIMA can be considered as a combination of multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) and SIM. Thus, SIMA is able to exploit a path diversity gain by (random) spreading over multiple carriers as MC-CDMA. To detect multiple users' signals, a low-complexity detection method is proposed by exploiting the notion of compressive sensing (CS). The derived low-complexity detection method is based on the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm, which is one of greedy algorithms used to estimate sparse signals in CS. From simulation results, we can observe that SIMA can perform better than MC-CDMA when the ratio of the number of users to the number of multi-carrier is low.

Scheduling Methods for Multi-User Optical Wireless Asymmetrically-Clipped OFDM

  • Diffuse optical wireless (DOW) systems have the advantage that they do not require point-to-point siting so one transmitter can communicate with several receivers. In this paper, we investigate multiple access scheduling methods for downlink orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in diffuse optical wireless networks. Unlike the radio frequency (RF) channel, the DOW channel has low-pass filter characteristics and so requires different scheduling methods than those developed for the RF channel. Multi-user diversity orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems nominate a cluster of subcarriers with the largest signal-to-noise-ratio for transmission. However, in a DOW channel, most users would choose the lowest frequency clusters of subcarriers. To remedy this problem, we make two proposals. The first is to use a variable cluster size across the subcarriers; the lower frequency clusters will have fewer subcarriers while the higher frequency clusters will have more subcarriers. This will equalize the capacity of the clusters. The second proposal is to randomize a user's cluster selection from a group of clusters satisfying a minimum threshold. Through simulation it is shown that combining these strategies can increase the throughput while ensuring a fair distribution of the available spectrum.

후 순위 시스템의 성능 향상을 위한 언더레이 기반의 인지 무선 시스템의 사용자 선택 기법 (User Selection Scheme for the Performance Improvement of the Secondary System in Cognitive Radio Systems using Underlay Mode)

  • 최근 고속 데이터 서비스의 보급으로 데이터 사용량이 급증함에 따라 이를 수용하기 위한 주파수 자원의 효율적 사용 방법에 대한 연구가 주목받고 있다. 따라서 주파수 효율성을 향상시키기 위해 주파수 사용에 대한 우선권을 가진 사용자와 후순위에 있는 사용자가 해당 주파수 대역을 공유하는 기술인 인지 무선 기술(Cognitive Radio, CR)이 제안되었다. 본 논문에서는 CR 시스템에서 직교하는 채널 벡터를 이용하여 선순위 시스템에게 미치는 간섭을 줄이면서 후순위 시스템의 성능 향상을 동시에 고려한 사용자 선택 기법을 제안한다. 모의실험 결과 제안 기법을 적용했을 때 전체 시스템의 합 용량이 기존 기법보다 약 1.62bps/Hz의 이득을 가지는 것을 확인하였다.

CDN 인프라를 기반으로 한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠의 효율적인 전송 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on Efficient Transmission of MultiMedia Contents based on CDN Infrastructure)

  • 최근 인터넷 이용자의 급증과 멀티미디어 컨텐츠의 증가로 인한 네트워크의 정체 현상을 해결하기 위한 방안으로 CDN 기술이 대두되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 안정적이고 신속하게 전송할 수 있는 방안으로 CDN 인프라를 기반으로 하여 CDN 서버 그룹간의 멀티캐스트 전송과 CDN 서버와 사용자 사이에 다중 코딩과 다중 경로 전송을 제안하였다. 이러한 연구는 멀티캐스트 전송에 있어서의 비 신뢰성 문제를 해결하고 멀티미디어 컨텐츠의 전송 효율을 높여 웹 컨텐츠 분야의 새로운 비즈니스 모델 창출에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

Optimization for Relay-Assisted Broadband Power Line Communication Systems with QoS Requirements Under Time-varying Channel Conditions

  • The user experience of practical indoor power line communication (PLC) applications is greatly affected by the system quality-of-service (QoS) criteria. With a general broadcast-and-multi-access (BMA) relay scheme, in this work we investigate the joint source and relay power optimization of the amplify-and-forward (AF) relay systems used under indoor broad-band PLC environments. To achieve both time diversity and spatial diversity from the relay-involved PLC channel, which is time-varying in nature, the source node has been configured to transmit an identical message twice in the first and second signalling phase, respectively. The QoS constrained power allocation problem is not convex, which makes the global optimal solution is computationally intractable. To solve this problem, an alternating optimization (AO) method has been adopted and decomposes this problem into three convex/quasi-convex sub-problems. Simulation results show the fast convergence and short delay of the proposed algorithm under realistic relay-involved PLC channels. Compared with the two-hop and broadcast-and-forward (BF) relay systems, the proposed general relay system meets the same QoS requirement with less network power assumption.
