  • The Conventional time-domain simulation of transient stability requires iterative calculation procedures to consider the saliency of generator. Recently, a non-iterative algorithm has successfully developed to take into account the generator saliency exactly with the use of $E_q'$-model. This study proposes an extended non-iterative algorithm by adopting the two-axis generator model. Given internal voltages and rotor angles of the generators, network voltages and generator currents can be directly calculated by solving a linear algebraic equation, which enables us to reduce the computation time remarkably.

  • In the present study, numerical simulations were performed in a stirred solid/liquid system by using Eulerian multi-phase model. The transient flow field of liquid and distribution of solid particles were predicted in the stirred tank with pitched paddle impeller and baffles. The Frozen rotor method is adopted to consider the rotating motion of the impeller. The effects of number and width of baffles on the mixing time and the quality of solid suspension in the stirred tank are presented numerically. The result shows that the mixing time decreases as the width and number of baffles increase. The present numerical methodology can be applied to optimizing mixing condition of industrial mixer.

  • We develop a method to analyze dynamic behavior off multi-stage gear train system. The example system consists of three shafts supported by ball bearings at the ends of them and two pairs of spur gear set. For exact analysis, the meshing tooth pair of gear set is modeled as spring and damper having time-dependent meshing stiffness and damping. The bearing is modeled as spring. The result of this analysis is compared to that of other model having mean mesh stiffness. The effect of the excitation force by the unbalance off rotor off motor is also analyzed. Finally, the change ova natural frequency of the whole system due to the change of an angle between three shafts is compared in each case, and from this analysis, the avoiding angle for design is advised.

  • In order to reduce the cogging torque, by predicting the variation of the cogging torque according to pole arc/pitch ratio by analytical and FE methods, pole arc/pitch ratio which makes the cogging torque minimum are determined. And then, the measurements of cogging torque for permanent magnet generators with determined pole arc/pitch ratio are presented. The reasons for the error between predicted and measured value are discussed fully in terms of the shape of permanent magnet. Finally, by confirming that predicted results for cogging torque according to pole arc/pitch ratio and skew are shown in good agreement with those obtained from measured one, the validation of analysis results is confirmed.

  • We studied the compact anode design to develop 100 kW rotating anode X-ray tube with large focal spot 1.2 mm, small focal spot 0.6 mm and tube voltage 150 kV for large hospital digital radiography using computer thermal simulation. The larger thermal radiation effect in a high vacuum can reduce the temperature of anode so the method to increase the surface area of anode is investigated. The anode has the multi-tier shape at the back side of TZM body of anode and also bigger diameter of anode. The number of multi-tiers was varied from 6 to 15 and the diameter of anode was also varied from ${\Phi}74$ to ${\Phi}82$. From ANSYS transient thermal simulation result, we could obtain $1056.4^{\circ}C$ anode maximum temperature when applying 100 kW input power at 0.1 second on target focal track which is less than $1091^{\circ}C$ of the conventional 75 kW X-ray tube with reduced anode weight by 15.5% than the conventional anode. The compact anode of reduced anode weight is able to improve the unwanted noise when the rotor is rotating at high-speed and also reduce the rotational torque which the cost effective stator-coil is possible. It is believed that the anode with 15 ea multi-tiers using ${\Phi}82$ can satisfy with the specification of the anode heat capacity. From the results of this paper, it has been confirmed that the proposed compact anode can be used as the anode of 100 kW rotating anode X-ray tube for digital radiography.

  • This study proposes the product development through an organic link with multi-faceted analysis on the archetype of traditional costumes culture. In order to find ways to develop cultural products, Jogakbo was selected, and the research result is as following. 1. Analysis on the types of Jogakbo products sold in the market shows that there are not only living, stationary, and fashion items, but also DIY packages. In terms of materials used, most of these Jogakbo products were made of fabric or mixture of different materials. These products displayed similar tendency by reflecting formative characteristics of Jogakbo. 2. This study analyzed the color, surface composition, material, manufacturing, and usage of Jogakbo. The rotor of Jogakbo is mostly composed of mono tone colors or Obangsac(five-element colors). The mono tone colors carries environmentally friendly meaning as it is using the natural color and Obangsac means harmony. Moreover, the surface composition of Jogakbo represents the expansion through connection and its material is also meaningful in that it is recycling. Manufacturing of Jogakbo has educational significance, fortune-wishing characteristics, decorative function, it also gives a gratification of handcraft. The usage of Jogakbo is a multi-(unctional article whose form is determined by an item that is held inside it. 3. Through the analysis on Jogakbo, this study presents the baby wear in relation to the ere-friendliness of colors, brooch sets using the surface composition, dresses using recycling fabric, children's educational instruments with educational significance, as well as multi-functional packages in regards to usage of Jogakbo.

  • In this study is performed to investigate the pumping characteristics of three-stage disk-type molecular drag pump (DTDP). The experiments are measured using five vacuum pressure gauges in the positions for rotors of DTDP. The experimented DTDP is consisted of three rotors and four stator. In the DTDP, spiral channels of three rotors are cut on the both upper surface and lower surface of a rotating disk, and corresponding stator is a planar disk. The experiments are performed in the outlet pressure range of $0.2{\sim}533\;Pa$. The pressure of each rotors are measured under the various condition of outlet pressure and throughputs, and nitrogen gas is used for test gas. In the numerical study, the pumping characteristics of each rotor are studied for the variation of throughputs in the all rotating channel. Pressure contour and velocity are obtained by the numerical simulation.

  • The present study focuses on the effect of staggered integration factor (SIF) on Morton effect simulation results. The Morton effect is a synchronous rotordynamic instability problem caused by the temperature differential across the journal in fluid film bearings. Convection and conduction of heat in the thin film displaces the hot spot, which is the hottest circumferential position in the thin film, from -20 to 40 degrees ahead of the high spot, where the minimum film clearance is experienced. The temperature differential across the journal causes a bending moment and the corresponding thermal bow in the rotating frame acts like a distributed synchronous excitation in the fixed frame. This thermal bow may cause increased vibrations and continued growth of the synchronous orbit into a limit cycle. The SIF is developed assuming that the response of the rotor-lubricant-bearing dynamic system is much quicker than that of the bearing-journal thermal system, and it is defined as the ratio between the simulation time of the thermal system and the rotor-spinning period. The use of the SIF is unavoidable for efficient computing. The value of the SIF is chosen empirically by the software users as a value between 100 and 400. However, the effect of the SIF on Morton effect simulation results has not been investigated. This research produces simulation results with different values of SIF.

  • Flywheel energy storage system (FESS) is defined as a high speed rotating flywheel system that can save surplus electric power. The FESS is proposed as an efficient energy storage system because it can accumulate a large amount of energy when it is operated at a high rotating speed and no mechanical problems are encountered. The FESS consists of a shaft, flywheel, motor/generator, bearings, and case. It is difficult to simulate rotor dynamics using common structure simulation programs because these programs are based on the 3D model and complex input rotating conditions. Therefore, in this paper, a program for the FESS based on the 2D FEM was developed. The 2D FEM can model easier than 3D, and it can present the multi-layer rotor with different material each other. Stiffness changing of the shaft caused by shrink fitting of the hub can be inputted to get clear solving results. The results obtained using the program were compared with those obtained using the common programs to determine any errors.
