Asynchronous Sensor Fusion using Multi-rate Kalman Filter (다중주기 칼만 필터를 이용한 비동기 센서 융합)

  • We propose a multi-rate sensor fusion of vision and radar using Kalman filter to solve problems of asynchronized and multi-rate sampling periods in object vehicle tracking. A model based prediction of object vehicles is performed with a decentralized multi-rate Kalman filter for each sensor (vision and radar sensors.) To obtain the improvement in the performance of position prediction, different weighting is applied to each sensor's predicted object position from the multi-rate Kalman filter. The proposed method can provide estimated position of the object vehicles at every sampling time of ECU. The Mahalanobis distance is used to make correspondence among the measured and predicted objects. Through the experimental results, we validate that the post-processed fusion data give us improved tracking performance. The proposed method obtained two times improvement in the object tracking performance compared to single sensor method (camera or radar sensor) in the view point of roots mean square error.

  • In this paper, a development of the sensor fusion algorithm for a visual control of mobile robot is presented. The output data from the visual sensor include a time-lag due to the image processing computation. The sampling rate of the visual sensor is considerably low so that it should be used with other sensors to control fast motion. The main purpose of this paper is to develop a method which constitutes a sensor fusion system to give the optimal state estimates.   • The purpose of this study is to propose an optimal fusion method of aerial multi - sensor data to improve the accuracy of land cover classification. Recently, in the fields of environmental impact assessment and land monitoring, high-resolution image data has been acquired for many regions for quantitative land management using aerial multi-sensor, but most of them are used only for the purpose of the project. Hyperspectral sensor data, which is mainly used for land cover classification, has the advantage of high classification accuracy, but it is difficult to classify the accurate land cover state because only the visible and near infrared wavelengths are acquired and of low spatial resolution. Therefore, there is a need for research that can improve the accuracy of land cover classification by fusing hyperspectral sensor data with multispectral sensor and aerial laser sensor data. As a fusion method of aerial multisensor, we proposed a pixel ratio adjustment method, a band accumulation method, and a spectral graph adjustment method. Fusion parameters such as fusion rate, band accumulation, spectral graph expansion ratio were selected according to the fusion method, and the fusion data generation and degree of land cover classification accuracy were calculated by applying incremental changes to the fusion variables. Optimal fusion variables for hyperspectral data, multispectral data and aerial laser data were derived by considering the correlation between land cover classification accuracy and fusion variables.

  • Currently, most biometrics system authenticates users by using single biometric information. This method has many problems such as noise problem, sensitivity to data, spoofing, a limitation of recognition rate. One method to solve this problems is to use multi biometric information. The multi biometric authentication system performs information fusion for each biometric information to generate new information, and then uses the new information to authenticate the user. Among information fusion methods, a score-level fusion method is widely used. However, there is a problem that a normalization operation is required, and even if data is same, the recognition rate varies depending on the normalization method. A rank-level fusion method that does not require normalization is proposed. However, a existing rank-level fusion methods have lower recognition rate than score-level fusion methods. To solve this problem, we propose a rank-level fusion method with higher recognition rate than a score-level fusion method using correlation coefficient. The experiment compares recognition rate of a existing rank-level fusion methods with the recognition rate of proposed method using iris information(CASIA V3) and face information(FERET V1). We also compare with score-level fusion methods. As a result, the recognition rate improve from about 0.3% to 3.3%.

  • This paper presents driving path estimation algorithm for adaptive cruise control system and advanced emergency braking system using multi-sensor fusion. Through data collection, yaw rate filtering based road curvature and vision sensor road curvature characteristics are analyzed. Yaw rate filtering based road curvature and vision sensor road curvature are fused into the one curvature by weighting factor which are considering characteristics of each curvature data. The proposed driving path estimation algorithm has been investigated via simulation performed on a vehicle package Carsim and Matlab/Simulink. It has been shown via simulation that the proposed driving path estimation algorithm improves primary target detection rate.

  • Data Fusion algorithm is essential in Target Detection using radar, and it has more reliability. In this paper, Multi Radar Fusion algorithm using IMM(Interacting Multiple Model) filter is suggested. This well-known IMM filter has better performance than Kalman filter has. In this simulation, Distributed Data Fusion process was applied, and three sub-filters and one main filter were employed. In addition, this simulation was evaluated by virtual radar data which include constant velocity, constant accelerate, turn rate. The result of an evaluation shows better performance in the maneuvering section of aircraft.

  • Dempster-Shafer Evidence Theory is available for multi-sensor data fusion. Basic Probability Assignment is essential for multi-sensor data fusion using Dempster-Shafer Theory. In this paper, we proposed a novel method of BPA calculation with signal assessment. We took notice of the signal that reported from the sensor mote at the time slot. We assessed the variation rate of the reported signal from the terminal. The trend of variation implies significant component of the context. We calculated the variation rate of signal for reveal the relation of the variation and the context. We could reach context inference with BPA that calculated with the variation rate of signal.

Effects of Uncertain Spatial Data Representation on Multi-source Data Fusion: A Case Study for Landslide Hazard Mapping

  • As multi-source spatial data fusion mainly deal with various types of spatial data which are specific representations of real world with unequal reliability and incomplete knowledge, proper data representation and uncertainty analysis become more important. In relation to this problem, this paper presents and applies an advanced data representation methodology for different types of spatial data such as categorical and continuous data. To account for the uncertainties of both categorical data and continuous data, fuzzy boundary representation and smoothed kernel density estimation within a fuzzy logic framework are adopted, respectively. To investigate the effects of those data representation on final fusion results, a case study for landslide hazard mapping was carried out on multi-source spatial data sets from Jangheung, Korea. The case study results obtained from the proposed schemes were compared with the results obtained by traditional crisp boundary representation and categorized continuous data representation methods. From the case study results, the proposed scheme showed improved prediction rates than traditional methods and different representation setting resulted in the variation of prediction rates.

Symptomatic Adjacent Segment Degeneration Following Posterior Lumbar Arthrodesis : Retrospective Analysis of 26 Patients Experienced in. 10-year of Periods

  • Objective : The authors retrospectively analyzed clinical and radiographic features of patients who developed symptomatic adjacent segment degeneration (ASD) that required re-operation. Methods : From 1995 to 2004, among 412 patients who underwent posterior lumbar fusion surgery, the authors experienced twenty-six patients who presented symptomatic ASD. Records of these patients were reviewed to collect clinical data at the first and second operations. Results : The patients were 9 males and 17 females whose mean age was $63.5{\pm}8.7$ years. Among 319 one segment and 102 multi-segment fusions, 16 and 10 patients presented ASD, respectively. Seventeen ASDs were noticed at the cephalad to fusion (65%), eight at the caudad (31%), and one at the cephalad and caudad, simultaneously (4%). All patients underwent decompression surgery. Nine patients underwent additional fusion surgeries to adjacent degenerated segments. In 17 patients who underwent only decompression surgery without fusion, the success rate was 82.4%. In fusion cases. the success rate was observed as 55.5%. There were no statistically significant factors to be related to development of ASD. However, in cases of multi-level fusion surgery, there was a tendency toward increasing ASD. Conclusion : Multi-segment fusion surgery could be associated with a development of ASD. In surgical treatment of symptomatic ASD, selective decompression without fusion may need to be considered as a primary procedure, which could reduce the potential risk of later occurrence of the other adjacent segment disease.

  • A MTG (Multimode Tracking and Guidance) system is employed to compensate for the limitations of individual seekers such as RF (Radio frequency) or IIR (Imaging Infra-red) and to improve the overall tracking and guidance performance in jamming, clutter, and adverse weather environments. In the MTG system, tracking filter, data association, and data fusion methods are important elements to maximize the effectiveness of precision homing missile guidance. This paper proposes the formulation of a Kalman filter for the estimation of line-of-sight rate from seeker measurements in missiles guided by proportional navigation. Also, we suggest the HPDA (Highest Probability Data Association) and data fusion methods of the MTG system for target tracking in the adverse environments. Mont-Carlo simulation is employed to evaluate the overall tracking performance and guidance accuracy.
