In this paper, we proposed a hardware-oriented Genetic Algorithm Processor(GAP) based on subpopulation architecture for high-performance convergence and reducing computation time. The proposed architecture was applied to enhancing population diversity for correspondence to premature convergence. In addition, the crossover operator selection and linear ranking subpop selection were newly employed for efficient exploration. As stochastic search space selection through linear ranking and suitable genetic operator selection with respect to the convergence state of each subpopulation was used, the elapsed time of searching optimal solution was shortened. In the experiments, the computation speed was increased by over $10\%$ compared to survival-based GA and Modified-tournament GA. Especially, increased by over $20\%$ in the multi-modal function. The proposed Subpop GA processor was implemented on FPGA device APEX EP20K600EBC652-3 of AGENT 2000 design kit.
A method for estimating the floor response spectra (FRS) of elastic structures under earthquake excitations is proposed. The method is established based on a previously proposed direct estimation method for single degree of freedom systems, which generally overestimates the FRS of a structure, particularly in the resonance period range. A modification factor is introduced to modify the original method; the modification factor is expressed as a function of the period ratio and is determined through regression analysis on time history analysis results. Both real and artificial ground motions are considered in the analysis, and it is found that the modification factors obtained from the real and artificial ground motions are significantly different. This suggests that the effect of ground motion should be considered in the estimation of FRS. The modified FRS estimation method is further applied to a 10-story building structure, and it is verified that the proposed method can lead to a good estimation of FRS of multi-story buildings.
In recent years, the PV plant is gradually increasing in korea and has begun to focus on PV system O&M(Operation and Management). The legacy PV system can hardly be gathering realtime information. That is why it is difficult for the facility to respond immediately to situations in which problems arise. This leads to economic losses due to reduced power generation. In this study, we implemented an RMC(Remote Maintenance Control) gateway that supports multi-area equipment(inverters, junction boxes, switchboards, environmental sensors) that are not limited to specific manufacturers. It provides a function to visualize the collected data. Users can easily check the power generation and operation status of PV system equipment. In the future, we will develop an algorithm capable of analyzing beta factors that cause equipment performance degradation, parts aging, and deterioration using data collected from facilities. We intend to use this algorithm as a fundamental technology for O&M by transplanting it to the RMC gateway.
The negative stiffness of an active or semi-active damper system has been proven to be very effective in reducing dynamic response. Therefore, energy dissipation devices possessing negative stiffness, such as viscous inertial mass dampers (VIMDs), have drawn much attention recently. The control performance of the VIMD for cable vibration mitigation has already been demonstrated by many researchers. In this paper, a new optimal design procedure for VIMD parameters for taut cable vibration control is presented based on the fixed-points method originally developed for tuned mass damper design. A model consisting of a taut cable and a VIMD installed near a cable end is studied. The frequency response function (FRF) of the cable under a sinusoidal load distributed proportionally to the mode shape is derived. Then, the fixed-points method is applied to the FRF curves. The performance of a VIMD with the optimal parameters is subsequently evaluated through simulations. A taut cable model with a tuned VIMD is established for several cases of external excitation. The performance of VIMDs using the proposed optimal parameters is compared with that in the literature. The results show that cable vibration can be significantly reduced using the proposed optimal VIMD with a relatively small amount of damping. Multiple VIMDs are applied effectively to reduce the cable vibration with multi-modal components.

In medical or public health research, it is common to encounter clustered or longitudinal count data that exhibit excess zeros. For example, health care utilization data often have a multi-modal distribution with excess zeroes as well as a multilevel structure where patients are nested within physicians and hospitals. To analyze this type of data, zero-inflated count models with mixed effects have been developed where a count response variable is assumed to be distributed as a mixture of a Poisson or negative binomial and a distribution with a point mass of zeros that include random effects. However, no study has considered a situation where data are also censored due to the finite nature of the observation period or follow-up. In this paper, we present a weighted version of zero-inflated Poisson model with random effects accounting for variable individual follow-up times. We suggested two different types of weight function. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated and compared to a standard zero-inflated mixed model through simulation studies. This approach is then applied to Medicaid data analysis.

Differential evolution(DE) has been preyed to be an efficient method for optimizing real-valued multi-modal objective functions. DE's main assets are its conceptual simplicity and ease of use. However, the convergence properties are deeply dependent on the control parameters of DE. This paper proposes an adaptive differential evolution(ADE) method which combines with a variant of DE and an adaptive mechanism of the control parameters. ADE contributes to the robustness and the easy use of the DE without deteriorating the convergence. 12 optimization problems is considered to test ADE. As an application of ADE the paper presents a supervised clustering method for predicting events, what is called, an evolutionary event clustering(EEC). EEC is tested for 4 cases used widely for the validation of data modeling.

When designing fluid mounts, design parameters can be varied in order to obtain a desired notch frequency and notch depth. The notch frequency is a function of the mount parameters and is typically selected by the designer to occur at the vibration disturbance frequency. Since the process of choosing these parameters can involve some trial and error, it seems to be a great application for obtaining optimal performance of the mount. Many combinations of parameters are possible to give us the desired notch frequency, but the question is which combination provides the lowest depth. Therefore. an automatic optimal technique is needed to optimize the performance of the fluid mount. In this study. the enhanced genetic algorithm (EGA) is applied to minimizing transmissibility of a fluid mount at the desired notch frequency, and at the notch and resonant frequencies. The EGA is modified genetic algorithm to search global and local optimal solutions of multi-modal function optimization. Furthermore. to reduce the searching time as compare to conventional genetic algorithm and Increase the precision of the solutions, the modified simplex method is combined with the algorithm. The results show that the performance of the optimized mount by using the hybrid algorithm is better than that of the conventional fluid mount.

This paper deals with solution methods for discrete and multi-valued optimization problems. The objective function of the problem incorporates noise effects generated in case that fitness evaluation is accomplished by computer based experiments such as Monte Carlo simulation or discrete event simulation. Meta heuristics including Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization (DPSO) can be used to solve these simulation based multi-valued optimization problems. In applying these population based meta heuristics to simulation based optimization problem, samples size to estimate the expected fitness value of a solution and population (particle) size in a generation (step) should be carefully determined to obtain reliable solutions. Under realistic environment with restriction on available computation time, there exists trade-off between these values. In this paper, the effects of sample and population sizes are analyzed under well-known multi-modal and multi-dimensional test functions with randomly generated noise effects. From the experimental results, it is shown that the performance of DPSO is superior to that of GA. While appropriate determination of population sizes is more important than sample size in GA, appropriate determination of sample size is more important than particle size in DPSO. Especially in DPSO, the solution quality under increasing sample sizes with steps is inferior to constant or decreasing sample sizes with steps. Furthermore, the performance of DPSO is improved when OCBA (Optimal Computing Budget Allocation) is incorporated in selecting the best particle in each step. In applying OCBA in DPSO, smaller value of incremental sample size is preferred to obtain better solutions.

Adaptive Rejection Sampling (ARS) method is a well-known random number generator to acquire a random sample from a probability distribution, and has the advantage of improving the proposal distribution during the sampling procedures, which update it closer to the target distribution. However, the use of ARS is limited since it can be used only for the target distribution in the form of the log-concave function, and thus various methods have been proposed to overcome such a limitation of ARS. In this paper, we attempt to compare five random number generators based on ARS in terms of adequacy and efficiency. Based on empirical analysis using simulations, we discuss their results and make a comparison of five ARS-based methods.
The suppression of aerodynamic response of long-span suspension bridges during erection and after completion by using single TMD and multi TMD is presented in this paper. An advanced finite-element-based aerodynamic model that can be used to analyze both flutter instability and buffeting response in the time domain is also proposed. The frequency-dependent flutter derivatives are transferred into a time-dependent rational function, through which the coupling effects of three-dimensional aerodynamic motions under gusty winds can be accurately considered. The modal damping of a structure-TMD system is analyzed by the state-space approach. The numerical examples are performed on the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge with a main span of 1990 m. The bridge is idealized by a three-dimensional finite-element model consisting of 681 nodes. The results show that when the wind velocity is low, about 20 m/s, the multi TMD type 1 (the vertical and horizontal TMD with 1% mass ratio in each direction together with the torsional TMD with ratio of 1% mass moment of inertia) can significantly reduce the buffeting response in vertical, horizontal and torsional directions by 8.6-13%. When the wind velocity increases to 40 m/s, the control efficiency of a multi TMD in reducing the torsional buffeting response increases greatly to 28%. However, its control efficiency in the vertical and horizontal directions reduces. The results also indicate that the critical wind velocity for flutter instability during erection is significantly lower than that of the completed bridge. By pylon-to-midspan configuration, the minimum critical wind velocity of 57.70 m/s occurs at stage of 85% deck completion.
