A neural network model to assess the hysteretic energy demand in steel moment resisting frames

  • Determining the hysteretic energy demand and dissipation capacity and level of damage of the structure to a predefined earthquake ground motion is a highly non-linear problem and is one of the questions involved in predicting the structure's response for low-performance levels (life safe, near collapse, collapse) in performance-based earthquake resistant design. Neural Network (NN) analysis offers an alternative approach for investigation of non-linear relationships in engineering problems. The results of NN yield a more realistic and accurate prediction. A NN model can help the engineer to predict the seismic performance of the structure and to design the structural elements, even when there is not adequate information at the early stages of the design process. The principal aim of this study is to develop and test multi-layered feedforward NNs trained with the back-propagation algorithm to model the non-linear relationship between the structural and ground motion parameters and the hysteretic energy demand in steel moment resisting frames. The approach adapted in this study was shown to be capable of providing accurate estimates of hysteretic energy demand by using the six design parameters.

신경망을 이용한 시계열 분석 : M1-Competition Data에 대한 예측성과 분석 (Time Series Analysis Using Neural Networks : Forecasting Performance Analysis with M1-Competition Data)

  • Neural Networks have been advocated as an alternative to statistical forecasting methods. However, the empirical evidences are not consistent. In the present experiments, multi-layered perceptron (MLP) are adopted as approximator to the time series generating processes. To prevent the MLP from being overfitted to the given time series, the information obtained from ARMA modeling is used to determine the architecture of MLP. The proposed approach was tested empirically using the subsamples of the 111 time series used in the first Markridakis Competition. The forecasting results were analyzed to find out the factors that affect the performance of MLP. The experimental results show that the proposed approach outperforms ARMA models in terms of fitting and forecasting accuracy. In addition, it is found that the use of deseasonalized data improves the forecasting accuracy of MLP.

  • Centrifugally Cast Stainless Steel generally shows similar structure to the weld in austenitic stainless steel in the point of casting. When examining this material ultrasonically, the beam does not generally propagate straightforward but rather deviates from its original direction and this phenomenon called skewing is originally caused by anisotropic material. In order to calculate the beam skewing effect theoretically, work has been performed based on a model approach which has regarded material itself as having been composed of multi-layered columnar dendrite structure and the result was compared with the one from experiment. The result from both theory and experiment showed good correlation and ultrasonic beam showed the least skewing with around 45 degree incident angle.

  • Interfacial engineering approaches as an efficient strategy for improving the power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of inverted polymer solar cells (iPSCs) has attracted considerable attention. Recently, polymer surface modifiers, such as poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI) and polyethylenimine ethoxylated (PEIE), were introduced to produce low WF electrodes and were reported to have good electron selectivity for inverted polymer solar cells (iPSCs) without an n-type metal oxide layer. To obtain more efficient solar cells, quantum dots (QDs) are used as effective sensitizers across a broad spectral range from visible to near IR. Additionally, they have the ability to efficiently generate multiple excitons from a single photon via a process called carrier multiplication (CM) or multiple exciton generation (MEG). However, in general, it is very difficult to prepare a bilayer structure with an organic layer and a QD interlayer through a solution process, because most solvents can dissolve and destroy the organic layer and QD interlayer. To present a more effective strategy for surpassing the limitations of traditional methods, we studied and fabricated the highly efficient iPSCs with mono-layered QDs as an effective multi-functional layer, to enhance the quantum yield caused by various effects of QDs monolayer. The mono-layered QDs play the multi-functional role as surface modifier, sub-photosensitizer and electron transport layer. Using this effective approach, we achieve the highest conversion efficiency of ~10.3% resulting from improved interfacial properties and efficient charge transfer, which is verified by various analysis tools.

  • 초음파를 이용한 다층 후판 복합재 패널의 비파괴 검사에서 상층부의 신호간섭효과는 결함판정을 보다 어렵게 만드는 중대한 요인으로 작용한다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해, 본 연구에서 초음파 C-Scan 이미지에 영향을 미치는 복합재 상층 패널의 신호간섭을 제거할 수 있는 이미지 향상기법을 제안하였다. 이는 수집된 초음파 수신신호를 보정신호를 이용해 정규화하고 그 결과 신호를 C-Scan 이미지로 재구성하는 기법으로 본 논문에서는 이미지 향상기법의 제안과 그 실험적 성능검증에 대하여 논하였다. 복합재 상층 패널의 계면효과를 제거하기 위해 인공결함을 내재시킨 세 개의 결함시험편을 제작하고, 이들 시험편에서 C-Scan 이미지를 실험적으로 획득하였다. 그리고, 개발된 이미지 보정기법을 적용하였는데, 제안된 기법이 이미지 개선알고리즘으로 실용적 적용성이 충분함을 입증하는 결과를 얻었다.

Non-linear aero-elastic response of a multi-layer TPS

  • The aim of the present work is to present a computational study of the non-linear aero-elastic behavior of a multi-layered Thermal Protection System (TPS). The severity of atmospheric re-entry conditions is due to the combination of high temperatures, high pressures and high velocities, and thus the aero-elastic behavior of flexible structures can be difficult to assess. In order to validate the specific computational model and the overall strategy for structural and aerodynamics analyses of flexible structures, the simplified TPS sample tested in the 8' High Temperature Tunnel (HTT) at NASA LaRC has been selected as a baseline for the validation of the present work. The von $K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n^{\prime}s$ three dimensional large deflection theory for the structure and a hybrid Raleigh-Ritz-Galerkin approach, combined with the first order Piston Theory to describe the aerodynamic flow, have been used to derive the equations of motion. The paper shows that a good description of the physical behavior of the fabric is possible with the proposed approach. The model is further applied to investigate structural and aero-elastic influence of the number of the layers and the stitching pattern.

Protecting Privacy of User Data in Intelligent Transportation Systems

  • The intelligent transportation system has made a huge leap in the level of human services, which has had a positive impact on the quality of life of users. On the other hand, these services are becoming a new source of risk due to the use of data collected from vehicles, on which intelligent systems rely to create automatic contextual adaptation. Most of the popular privacy protection methods, such as Dummy and obfuscation, cannot be used with many services because of their impact on the accuracy of the service provided itself, they depend on changing the number of vehicles or their physical locations. This research presents a new approach based on the shuffling Nicknames of vehicles. It fully maintains the quality of the service and prevents tracking users permanently, penetrating their privacy, revealing their whereabouts, or discovering additional details about the nature of their behavior and movements. Our approach is based on creating a central Nicknames Pool in the cloud as well as distributed subpools in fog nodes to avoid intelligent delays and overloading of the central architecture. Finally, we will prove by simulation and discussion by examples the superiority of the proposed approach and its ability to adapt to new services and provide an effective level of protection. In the comparison, we will rely on the wellknown privacy criteria: Entropy, Ubiquity, and Performance.

점진원모델을 사용한 층상지반에서의 깊이에 따른 지반운동 특성 변화연구 (A Study on the Depth Dependent Characteristics of Earthquake Ground Motions in a Layered Ground Medium Using Point Source Models)

  • 다층 탄성반무한체에서 지진파장의 깊이에 따른 변화특성을 propagator matrix와 경사계단함수(ramp function) 형상의 단층이동함수(fault slip function)를 갖는 점진원 모델을 사용하여 연구하였다. 본 논문에서 지반은 수평방향으로 평행하고 각층에서는 재료특성이 균일한 지층으로 구성된 반무한체로서 모델링되었다. 각 층에서 지진운동의 지배편미분방정식의 해를 구하기 위해서 Fourier Hankel 변환기법이 적용되었다. 층상지반아래 반무한체에 있는 연직 dip-slip 및 주향이동(strike slip) 점진원에 의한 각층경계에서의 가속도와 변위의 시간이력과 주파수내용을 개발한 해석프로그램에 의하여 계산하였고 그 특성을 논의하였다.

전기 영화가 인물과 역사를 소환하는 한 방식에 대해 - 영화 <황금시대>를 중심으로 (On a Way in which Biographical Film Summons Character and History - Focusing on the Film, The Golden Era -)

  • Biographical film is a genre narrativizing the actual person and history, and reproducing the character and history in a biographical film is in a dimension different from a film focused on a fiction. Discussion between these methods of narrative composition and image reproduction in a biographical film is also, in line with artistic/aesthetic problems and ethical/philosophical theses of the film text. This study discusses the phase of the way of reproduction of the actual person, $Xi{\bar{a}}o$ $H{\acute{o}}ng$ in the biographical film, The Golden Era and the time she lived in a biographical film and how the audience's discussion of the film and socio-cultural discourse differ depending on their attitude towards the cinematic introspection of the text. The narrative structure, the method of image reproduction and cinematic devices of the film, The Golden Era are completely off the point of the general format of the traditional biographical film. In The Golden Era, $Xi{\bar{a}}o$ $H{\acute{o}}ng$ and the history which she lived in did not revive depending on an omniscient subject's selective statement and meta-film structure. Ann Hui removed general, mythic images of $Xi{\bar{a}}o$ $H{\acute{o}}ng$ formed in the field of traditional Chinese culture and reproduced her through multilateral visions of a real, fictional narrator. Each spectator's judgment and interpretation of the film intervene in the multi-layered and sparse descriptions of the actual person's images and the era of the characters. Through this, it is possible to approach the uniqueness and authenticity a historical character, $Xi{\bar{a}}o$ $H{\acute{o}}ng$ and to have an opportunity of multi-layered reflection on how to secure a critical distance and make a perception in historical judgment.

다층모형을 활용한 신재생 에너지 사업 참여 로드맵에 미치는 영향 요인 분석 (The Analysis of Factors Affecting the Roadmap for Participation in Renewable Energy Projects Using a Multi-Level Model)

  • 신재생 에너지에 관한 적극적 사업 참여가 필요한 현 시점에서, 신재생 에너지 사업 참여의 성장동력과 내실있는 추진전략에 대한 기초정보가 필요하였다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 다층모형을 활용한 신재생 에너지 사업참여 로드맵에 미치는 영향 요인을 분석하여, 신재생 에너지 사업 참여 활성화를 위한 기초정보를 제공하고자 하였다. 본 연구결과, 실효성있는 신재생 에너지 사업 참여 로드맵을 달성하기 위해서는 업종별 신재생 에너지사업 참여 요소의 재정립이 필요함을 살펴볼 수 있다. 구체적으로 살펴보면, 사업의 주도 단체, 이익배분 방식, 녹색산업 금융지원, 사업 시행 방식, 발전소 위치, 포괄적 장기전략 등의 적절한 대응방안 마련이 필요하고, 관련 산업의 육성을 촉진할 수 있는 제도적 접근이 필요할 것임을 발견하였다. 무엇보다 실효성있는 신재생에너지 사업 참여 로드맵을 달성하기 위해서는 국가경제에의 부담을 최소화하면서 신재생에너지의 보급을 확대하고 관련 산업의 육성을 촉진할 수 있는 제도적 접근이 필요함을 시사하였다.
