A low-cost, large area, random, maskless texturing scheme independent of crystal orientation is expected to have significant impact on terrestrial photovoltaic technology. We investigated silicon surface microstructures formed by reactive ion etching (R IE) in Multi-Hollow cathode system. Desirable texturing effect has been achieved when radio-frequency (rf) power of about 20 Watt per one hollow cathode glow is applied for our RF Multi -Hollow cathode system. The black silicon etched surface shows almost zero reflectance in the visible region as well as in near IR region. The etched silicon surface is covered by columnar microstructures with diameters from 50 to 100 nm and depth of about 500 nm. We have successfully achieved 11.7 % efficiency of mono-crystalline silicon solar cell and 10.2 % for multi-crystalline silicon solar cell.
The surface region of commercial stainless steel 304 and 316 plates has been modified through deposition of the multi-layered coatings composed of titanium film ($0.1{\mu}m$) and gold film ($1-2{\mu}m$) by an electron beam evaporation method. XRD patterns of the stainless steel plates deposited with conductive metal films showed the peaks of the external gold film and the stainless steel substrate. Surface microstructural morphologies of the stainless steel bipolar plates modified with multi-layered coatings were observed by AFM and FE-SEM images. The stainless steel plates modified with $0.1{\mu}m$ titanium film and $1{\mu}m$ gold film showed microstructure of grains of under 100 nm diameter. The external surface of the stainless steel plates deposited with $0.1{\mu}m$ titanium film and $2{\mu}m$ gold film represented somewhat grain growth of Au grains in FE-SEM image. The electrical resistance and water contact angle of the stainless steel bipolar plates modified with multi-layered coatings were examined with the thickness of the gold film.
Multi-crystalline silicon surface etching without grain-boundary delineation is a challenging task for the fabrication of high efficiency solar cell. The use of sodium hydroxide - sodium hypochlorite (NaOH40% + NaOCl 12%) solution for texturing multi-crystalline silicon wafer surface in solar cell fabrication line is reported in this article. in light current-voltage results, the cells etched in NaOH 40% + NaOCl 12% = 1:2 exhibited higher short circuit current and open circuit voltage than those of the cells etched in NaOH 40% + NaOCl 12% = 1:1 solution. we have obtained 15.19% conversion efficiency in large area(156cm2) multi-Si solar cells etched in NaOH 40% + NaOCl 12% = 1:1 solution.
In a previous work we reported the bistable property by doping a chiral material in a splay cell. The bistable states are the splay state and the metastable 180$^{\circ}$twist state. The retention time of the metastable state can be changed by the variation of d/p (cell gap over pitch), cell gap, pretilt angle, azimuthal anchoring force, liquid crystal material, and so on. In this paper we will present uniform bend transition and twist retention time improvement in a multi-domain BCSN LC cell by using the multi cell gap method.
In this paper, a zinc electrowinning cell is fully optimized to achieve a uniform current distribution at electrode surfaces. To effectively deal with an electromagnetically coupled problem with multi-dimensional design variables, a sampling-based sensitivity approach is combined with a highly tuned multiphysics simulation model. The model involves the interrelation between electrochemical reactions and electromagnetic phenomena so as to predict accurate current distributions in the electrowinning cell. In the sampling-based sensitivity approach, Kriging-based surrogate models are generated in a local window, and accordingly their sensitivity values are extracted. Such unique design strategy facilitates optimizing very complicated multiphysics and multi-dimensional design problems. Finally, ten design variables deciding the electrolytic cell structure are optimized, and then the uniformity of current distribution in the optimized cell is examined through the comparison with existing cell designs.

Theoretical Bit Error Rate (BER) and channel capacity analysis are always of great interest to the designers of wireless communication systems. At the center of such analyses people are often encountered with a high-dimensional multiple integrals with quite complex integrands. Conventional Gaussian quadrature is inefficient in handling problems like this, as it tends to entail tremendous computational overhead, and the principal order of its error term increase rapidly with the dimension of the integral. In this paper, we propose a new approach to calculate complex multi-fold integrals based on the number theory. In contrast to Gaussian quadrature, the proposed approach requires less computational effort, and the principal order of its error term is independent of the dimension. The effectiveness of the number theory based approach is examined in BER and capacity analyses for practical systems. In particular, the results generated by numerical computation turn out in good match with that of Monte-Carlo simulations.
The present paper deals with the continuous work of extending multi-dimensional limiting process (MLP), which has been quite successfully proposed on two- and three-dimensional structured grids, onto the unstructured grids. The basic idea of the present limiting strategy is to control the distribution of both cell-centered and cell-vertex physical properties to mimic a multi-dimensional nature of flow physics, which can be formulated as so called the MLP condition. The MLP condition can guarantee a high-order spatial accuracy without yielding spurious oscillations. Recently, MLP slope limiter was proposed based on the MUSCL-type reconstruction in two-dimensional case and it can be readily extended to three-dimensional case. Through various numerical analyses and extensive computations, it is observed that the proposed limiters are quite effective in controlling numerical oscillations and very accurate in capturing both discontinuous and continuous multi-dimensional flow features on 3-D tetrahedral grids.
Next-generation (4G) systems are designed to support universal frequency reuse (UFR) to achieve best use of valuable spectra. However, it leads to undesirable interference level near cell borders. To control this, 4G systems adopt techniques, such as network multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC), to improve cell-edge throughput. Network MIMO aims at mitigating inter-cell interference towards cell-edge users (CEUs) through multi-cell cooperation, where each collaborative base station serves both cell-center users (CCUs) and CEUs, including other cells' CEUs, under a power constraint. The present ICIC strategies cannot be directly applied to network MIMO because they were designed in absence of multi-cell coordination. In the presence of network MIMO, this paper investigates antenna orientations in ICIC and the method of power management. Results show that a proper antenna orientation can improve the cell-edge capacity and meantime lower the interference to CCUs. Capacity inconsistency between CCUs and CEUs is detrimental to mobile communications. Simulation results show that the proposed power management for ICIC in network MIMO systems can achieve a uniform data rate regardless users' position.
This study proposes an enhanced switching pattern that can improve energy transfer efficiency in an active cell-balancing circuit using a multiwinding transformer. This balancing circuit performs cell balancing by transferring energy stored in a specific cell with high energy to another cell containing low energy through a multiwinding transformer. The circuit operates in flyback and buck-boost modes in accordance with the energy transfer path. In the conventional flyback mode, the leakage inductance of the transformer and the stray inductance component of winding can transfer energy to an undesired path during the balancing operation. This case results in cell imbalance during the cell-balancing process, which reduces the energy transfer efficiency. An enhanced switching pattern that can effectively perform cell balancing by minimizing the amount of energy transferred to the nontarget cells due to the leakage inductance components in the flyback mode is proposed. Energy transfer efficiency and balancing speed can be significantly improved using the proposed switching pattern compared with that using the conventional switching pattern. The performance improvements are verified by experiments using a 1 W prototype cell-balancing circuit.
We consider a cell edge environment. In cell edge, a user interfered by signal which is generated by a base stations not including the user. In cell edge environment, that is, there are inter cell interference (ICI) as well as multi user interference (MUI). Coordinated multi-point transmission (CoMP) is a technique which mitigates ICI between base stations. In CoMP, therefore, base stations can coordinate with each other by sharing user state information (CSI) in order to mitigate ICI. To improve sum rate performance in CoMP, each base station should generate optimal user group and transmit data to users selected in the optimal user group. In this paper, we propose a user selection algorithm in CoMP. The proposed method use signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) as criterion of selecting users. Because base station can't measure accurate SINR of users, in this paper, we estimate SINR equation considering ICI as well as MUI. Also, we propose a user selection algorithm based on the estimated SINR. Through MATAL simulation, we verify that the proposed method improves the system sum rate by an average of 1.5 ~ 3 bps/Hz compared to the conventional method.
