  • An absolute type shaft encoder which utilized moire fringe will be presented in this paper. Linear moire fringe is commonly used to measure the displacement of the linear motion. However, an absolute encoder which measure the rotation angle of a shaft is operated usually with a code disk which the gray code pattern is printed on. Such encoder has inherently resolution limit because of the patterning mechanism and sensing mechanism. In order to measure the position of fringes which move as the code disk rotates, neural network was developed in this paper. Formerly fringe position is usually measured by a sophisticated software, which needs a little long calculation time. However, using neural network method can eliminate such calculation time, even though it needs learning job. The proposed method is verified through several experiments.

  • In this paper, the current status of manufacturing technologies for GaAs/Si solar cell were revived and provied new MOCVD. In the manufacturing process of GaAs/Si solar cells and an experiment to get the high efficiency GaAs solar cells, we must investigate the optimum growth conditions to get high quality GaAs films on Si substrates by MOCVD. The GaAs on Si substrates has been recognized as a lightweight alternative to pure substrate for space applicaton. Because its density is less the half of GaAs or Ge.So GaAs/Si has twofold weight advantage to GaAs monolithic cell. The theoretical conversion efficiecy limit of tandem GaAs/Si solar cell is 32% under AM 0 and $25^{\circ}C$ condition. It was concluded that the development of cost effective MOCVD technologies shoud be ahead GaAs solar cells for achived move high efficiency III-V solar cells involving tandem structure.

Numerical modeling of slipforming operations

  • Slipforming is a construction method in which the forms move continuously during concrete placement. This paper presents a numerical procedure based on the finite element method to simulate the thermal behavior of concrete during slipforming operations. The validity of the model was successfully tested by simulating a very complex but well documented field case of actual slipforming operations performed during the construction of an offshore concrete oil platform structure. The results obtained have been related to the shape of the concrete "hardened front" in the forms, which allows quick evaluation of the operation. The results of the numerical investigation have shown that the shape of the "hardened front" can be affected by the temperature of the fresh concrete and ambient conditions. For a given initial concrete temperature, there are limitations for the ambient temperature that, when exceeded, can create an unfavorable shape of the concrete "hardened front" in the forms. Similarly, for a given ambient temperature, the initial concrete temperature should not be fall below an established limit in order to avoid unfavorable shape of the "hardened front".

  • Tubular coils are widely used in various electromagnetic applications. For the purpose to obtain the mechanical output power, one of the two sets of coil arrays, called drive, is generally fixed while the other, called sleeve or projectile, is not fixed and easy to move. Among the three force components acting on the coil arrays, the radial one used to affect as a stress on the surfiace of the sleeve, or a restoring force if it is off-centered. The system under transient state or intended pulsed input power is likely to have the worst condition in mechanical stress, and it is necessary to design the mechanical strength of the sleeve within the permanent deformation limit. This paper is focused on the presentation of analytic expressions for the stress on surface of the sleeve.

FRAPCON analysis of cladding performance during dry storage operations

  • There is an increasing need in the United States and around the world to move used nuclear fuel from wet storage in fuel pools to dry storage in casks stored at independent spent fuel storage installations or interim storage sites. Under normal conditions, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission limits cladding temperature to $400^{\circ}C$ for high-burnup (>45 GWd/mtU) fuel, with higher temperatures allowed for low-burnup fuel. An analysis was conducted with FRAPCON-4.0 on three modern fuel designs with three representative used nuclear fuel storage temperature profiles that peaked at $400^{\circ}C$. Results were representative of the majority of US light water reactor fuel. They conservatively showed that hoop stress remains below 90 MPa at the licensing temperature limit. Results also show that the limiting case for hoop stress may not be at the highest rod internal pressure in all cases but will be related to the axial temperature and oxidation profiles of the rods at the end of life and in storage.

담배 벌크건조기의 래크용 전동발달기 장치 개발 (Development of Electric Hoist Device for Rack in Tobacco Bulk curing Barn)

  • In order to save hanging labor hours and reduce work intensity for bulk curing of the flue-cured tobacco, and electric hoist was developed. It consists of a pair of square steel frames with side plates and rolling casters to move back and forth on the second tire of bulk barn, and wire rope type lift was attached to the beneath of its top center. The lift driven by DC motor could be controlled by operating switch with one limit switch and control box, and a scissors shaped gripper was deviced to grip tobacco rack to the end of wire rope. As the results of experiments with electric hoist, labor hours for hanging could be saved by 30 to 40% as compared with those in conventional method. With simple and light structure, it was possible for even woman to load the harvested tobacco, and it could be recommended for farmers to use this device with reasonable price.

응답량 재사용을 통한 순차 근사최적설계 (A Sequential Approximate Optimization Technique Using the Previous Response Values)

  • A general approximate optimization technique by sequential design domain(SDD) did not save response values for getting an approximate function in each step. It has a disadvantage at aspect of an expense. In this paper, previous response values are recycled for constructing an approximate function. For this reason, approximation function is more accurate. Accordingly, even if we did not determine move limit, a system is converged to the optimal design. Size and shape optimization using approximate optimization technique is carried out with SDD. Algorithm executing Pro/Engineer and ANSYS are automatically adopted in the approximate optimization program by SDD. Convergence criterion is defined such that optimal point must be located within SDD during the three steps. The PLBA(Pshenichny-Lim-Belegundu-Arora) algorithm is used to solve approximate optimization problems. This algorithm uses the second-order information in the direction finding problem and uses the active set strategy.

순차설계영역을 이용한 근사 형상최적에 관한 연구 (Approximate Shape Optimization Technique by Sequential Design Domain)

  • 기계부품의 설계는 초기 설계, 해석, 성능 평가의 반복 과정을 통하여 수행된다. 설계자는 각 과정에서 특성에 맞는 프로그램을 사용하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 순차 설계 영역을 이용한 형상최적화를 수행하였다. 순차 설계영역의 근사함수를 구하기 위하여 Pro/Engineer 와 ANSYS 실행의 자동화를 수행하였다. 전체 설계영역을 근사식으로 표현하기에는 어려움이 있다. 정확도가 높은 근사식을 만들기 위하여 순차설계영역을 설정하여 각 단계에서 수렴한 해로 이동량을 결정하고, 두 번 연속하여 순차설계 영역에 존재하면 수렴조건을 만족하는 것으로 하였다. 각 단계의 해는 순차이차 계획법인 PLBA(Pshenichny-Lim-Belegundu Arora)알고리즘을 이용하여 구하였다.

산지계류에 설치된 계상구조물이 어류의 이동에 미치는 영향: 버들치를 중심으로 (Influence on the Movement of Fish by the Installation of Structures in Mountain Streams: Focused on Chinese Minnow)

  • 산지계류에서 다양한 계상공작물의 설치에 따른 어류의 상부 및 하부로의 이동상태를 조사하여 분석한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 콘크리트 박스공과 같은 개방형 구조물의 경우 강우의 영향으로 유량이 늘어나는 시기에는 낙차의 높이가 줄어드는 효과가 발생하여 버들치와 같은 유영성 어류들은 상부에서 하류로의 이동과 하부에서 상부로 소상하는데 비교적 양호하였다. 또한, 1 m 미만의 돌낙차공, 돌바닥막이 등 횡단 계상구조물은 상부에서 방사한 버들치의 개체가 하부에서 재 포획되어 구조물 상부에서 하부로의 이동은 가능하였으나, 유량이 많은 장마 직후에도 하부에서 상부로의 소상은 어려운 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 3 m 이상의 사방댐 등 횡단 사방공작물도 댐의 하단부에 물빼기 구멍의 수가 적거나 어류를 위한 소통 공간이 없는 경우는 유량이 많아도 버들치의 이동에 제한을 받고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 버들치는 활발하게 행동은 하지만 계상구조물의 유형 및 구조적인 특성에 따라 이동에 제한을 받고 있다. 산지 계류에서 구조물을 설치할 때에는 구조물의 종류, 높이 및 어류서식 상태와 평소 계류에 물이 있는 지를 고려하여 어류가 소통할 수 있도록 가능한 높이를 낮추거나 개방형의 구조물을 적절하게 설치할 필요성이 있다.

마멸율에 관한 저널베어링의 최적설계 (Optimum Design of Journal Bearings considering the Wear Rate)

  • 저널과의 마찰과 마멸을 줄이기 위하여 저널베어링이 사용된다. 저널베어링은 유체 윤활 상대에서 사용되나, 압력이 지나치게 높거나 회전 속도가 작아지면 탄성 유체 윤활 상태의 유막이 파괴되어 접촉부의 돌기가 접촉되는 경계 윤활 상태가 된다. 따라서 혼합 윤활 상태가 되면 저널베어링의 마멸량이 증가하게 된다 본 논문은 마멸율을 최소화함으로 저널베어링의 수명을 연장하는 최적설계를 수행하였다 목적 함수로 혼합 윤활 영역에서 적용되는 마멸을 함수를 사용하였고, 저널베어링 설계에서 고려할 성능 인자들인 마찰 손실, 안정 한계 속도, 유막 파라미터 등을 제약 함수로 사용하였다. 저널베어링 형상을 나타내는 베어링 반경, 축 반경, 베어링 폭 등에서 본 연구는 베어링 반경을 설계 변수로 하였다. 정식화한 설계인자를 이용하여 저널베어링의 최적 설계를 순차 이차 계획법인 PLBA알고리즘을 사용하여 수행하였다.
