Which Motivations Influence Consumer Behavior? : Focusing on Second-hand Distribution Platforms

  • Purpose: The no-contact and economic downturn caused by COVID-19 have further grown the used market. The second-hand trading industry has established itself as a popular consumption culture, leading to exponential growth in the size of the market. This study aims to identify the types of shopping motivation for used products targeting Korean consumers, and to examine the relationship between shopping motivations for second-hand transactions, consumption values, and re-use intentions. Research design, data and methodology: The first study was conducted on 63 used trading platform users and the second study was conducted on 441 used trading platform users to identify the types of consumers' motivation for shopping for used products. Results: As a result of the first study, the shopping motivation types of Korean used product consumers were classified into convenience motivation, economic motivation, hedonistic motivation, information Acquisition motivation, and free time utilization motivation. As a result of the second study, it was found that convenience motivation had the greatest influence on functional values and hedonic motivation had the greatest influence on emotional values, and that functional values had a great influence on platform reuse intentions. Conclusions: This study provides practical implications for the establishment of marketing strategies for used trading platforms and academic implications for research related to used trading.

Antecedents of Employee's Public Service Motivation in Healthcare Organization (병원종사자의 공공서비스동기와 영향요인)

  • Purpose / Approach : This study aims to analyze the level of public service motivation and its antecedents by using survey data of 1,498 professional employees in public and private hospitals. Findings : Among job-related, organization-related, and socialization-related factors of professional employees, the socialization factors have a strong effect on individual's overall and the four sub-dimensions of public service motivation. While the effect of organizational identification is prominent in the public hospital, professional identification is more powerful in the private hospital. Person-job fit and person-organizational value fit also play a significant role in determining public service motivation. Organizational vision salience in public hospital has negative effect on public service motivation and attraction-to-public-service dimension. The significant determinants and its effect size are different according to hospital type and each sub-dimension of public service motivation. Practical Implications : The empirical findings show that individual's level of public service motivation in hospitals could be enhanced through the interaction between individual and their organization, and various organization-related factors. Further implications of the study are discussed from human resource management perspective in hospitals.

The Impact of Self-Reported Knowledge and Self-perceived Importance about Earth Systems on Science Gifted Students' Science Motivation: An Exploratory Study (과학 영재 학생의 지구계에 대한 지식과 중요성이 과학 동기에 미치는 영향: 탐색적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation among science gifted students' self-reported knowledge and self-perceived importance about Earth systems, and their science motivation. Ninety three seventh graders participated in this study who enrolled at Science Gifted Institute of K university. The correlation was measured by a validated Earth systems survey and Science Motivation Questionnaire (SMQ). The data were analyzed at the margin of error probability 0.05 using correlation and regression analysis. The result of reliability for items turned out high because the Cronbach's alphas were .896~.937. Results indicated that the correlation between self-reported knowledge on Earth systems and science motivation showed a correlation coefficient .656, whereas the correlation between importance on Earth systems and science motivation was .387, which was regarded as low. On the other hands, the result of regression analysis depicted that non-std. coefficients between students' self-reported knowledge about Earth systems and science motivation were .548 (.077), which lead to the conclusion that students' knowledge on Earth systems explained 43% of science motive-variation. It implied that Earth systems education program could impact the increased motivation of science gifted-students. Therefore, this study suggests that the various Earth systems education programs could be developed and implemented in order to increase students' motivation on studying science in general and Earth science in specific.

The Effects of Science Classes applying Round Robin Strategy on Scientific Communicative Competence, Science Learning Motivation and Academic Achievement of Elementary Students (라운드 로빈 기법을 적용한 과학수업이 초등학생의 과학적 의사소통능력, 과학 학습동기 및 학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to investigate the effects of science classes applying round robin strategy on scientific communicative competence, science learning motivation and academic achievement of elementary students. The number of participants were 126, 4 classes of 6th grade in C elementary school in B city. The experimental group, 2 classes including 63 participants, had science classes applying round robin strategy. While the comparative group, 2 classes including 63 participants, took ordinary teacher-driven lessons using teacher's guidebook. Pre and post tests were done before and after intervention to assess the changing in each group's scientific communicative competence, science learning motivation, and academic achievement. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: The science class applying round robin strategy showed significant effect on improving scientific communicative competence and science learning motivation and academic achievement of elementary students.

The Effects of Various Instructional Activities using the History of Science on Science Learning Motivation of Elementary School Students (과학사를 활용한 다양한 수업 활동이 초등학생의 과학 학습 동기에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was to investigate effects of instruction using the history of science on elementary school students' science learning motivation. Subjects were 48 students of two groups in the 5th Grade in Bucheon City. A Experimental group of 24 was instructed 20 lessons in Unit 1~7 using the history of science for a 11-week period. In this study, the instructional contents were selected by stories about scientists, discoveries or anecdotes about natural phenomena and related learning topics in national science curriculum. And they are presented by writings with pictures, cartoons, PPT materials and a script. Students play various learning activities such as exchanging opinions after reading instructional content, making a book or a newspaper, playing in a drama and representing by picture. A control group of 24 was instructed by traditional teaching methods in same period. To compare difference of instruction effects of the two groups, the score of pre-test and post-test were both estimated by t-test. The results of the study were as follows. Students of experimental group showed statistically a more significant increase in the science learning motivation than control group students (p<.05). Each of attention (A), relevance (R), satisfaction (S) sub-elements of learning motivation were higher in the experimental group and it was showed the instruction using the history of science was effective in improving of science learning motivation.

The Effects of the Small Group Collaborative Learning Strategy using Smart Devices in Elementary School Science Classes (초등 과학 수업에서 스마트 기기를 활용한 소집단 협력 학습의 효과)

  • In this study, the effects of the small group collaborative learning on students' achievement, the retention of the achievement, communication anxiety, and science learning motivation were investigated. The aptitude-treatment interaction between the level of students' self-directed learning ability and the intervention was also examined. Two classes (38 students) from an elementary school were respectively assigned to a control group and a treatment group. A self-directed learning ability test, a communication anxiety test, and a science learning motivation test were administered as pretests. The intervention lasted for 8 class periods. After instruction, an achievement test, the communication anxiety test, and the science learning motivation test were administered. An achievement retention test were also administered after four weeks. The results indicated that there were significant treatmentaptitude interaction effects in the achievement test scores and the achievement retention test scores. In the communication anxiety and the science learning motivation, however, any significant difference was not found between the scores of the treatment group and the control group. Educational implications are discussed.

  • Purpose: This study aims to fill the existing gap in the existing literature by investigating the mediating effect of psychological empowerment between leadership and motivation for workers at retail stores, and to extend the previous research to determine the preferences of the researchers and practitioners in leadership and employee motivation in retail through a systematic approach. Research design, data and methodology: This study used a systematic approach to the mediation effect of psychological empowerment on the relationship between leadership and employee motivation in retail stores. To ensure completeness, systematization, and transparency, the preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) approach was applied. Results: The research findings (Total Four Mediating Roles) suggest that psychological empowerment may mediate between leadership and employee motivation. These mediation roles (Empowering Leadership Styles, Organizational Culture and Psychological Empowerment, Customer Psychological Empowerment, and High-Performance Work Systems (HPWS) and Psychological Empowerment) will help practitioners comprehend how these empowerment and motivation leadership styles are interconnected in the retail industry. Conclusions: The research results indicate that psychological empowerment is essential for employee motivation in the retail sector. Through this knowledge, retail store managers can implement strategies designed to empower employees and create a motivated workforce, bolstering organizational effectiveness.

Analysis of the Structural Relationship among Learning Outcomes in Science Classes applying Universal Design for Learning (보편적 학습 설계를 적용한 과학 수업의 학습 성과에 관한 구조적 관계 분석)

  • The variety of learners include students with disabilities and general students, and an ongoing focus of inclusive education research is non-discrimination. As part of integrated education, UDL (Universal Design for Learning) for students with disabilities supports a practical approach, participation, and advancement to improve learning opportunities for all students. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of using UDL in science classes. The dependent variables of this study were academic achievement in science, scientific attitude, and scientific motivation. In this study, the experimental groups were 9 people in the 5th grade and 11 people in 6th grade. The experimental groups were taught science class using UDL. In order to analyze the learning outcomes, the structure equation model was performed. The results of this study were as follows: First, the science achievement of learning outcomes of the science class applying UDL directly affected both scientific attitude and scientific motivation. Second, the scientific attitude of learning outcomes of the science class applying UDL directly did not affect scientific motivation. According to these results, learning outcomes for science achievement of the science class applying UDL showed that UDL affected both general students and students with disabilities. To summarize the analysis of learning outcomes, science achievement directly affected both scientific attitude and scientific motivation while scientific attitude did not affect scientific motivation. This study offered a specific implementation method for integrated education. Using the structure equation model for analyzing the effect has more significance.

  • This paper reviewed the relationship between job demands and safety motivation, and the moderating effect of A-type trait in Korean Air Force. Based on the responses from 722 responses, the results of multiple regression analysis appeared as follow; 1) role overload effects positively and role ambiguity effects negatively on intrinsic safety motivation. 2) role conflict effects negatively on extrinsic safety motivation. 3) role ambiguity effects negatively on intrinsic safety motivation in B-type than in A-type trait.

The Effect of Flipped Learning Education on Academic Motivation and Class Satisfaction in Physical Therapy Students (플립러닝을 활용한 교육이 물리치료학과 학생들의 학습동기와 수업만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Background: This study aimed to investigate the effects of flipped learning education on academic motivation and class satisfaction in physical therapy students. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Participants included 72 physical therapy students (experimental group=36, control group=36). In order to compare the effects of flipped learning education, flipped learning and lecture-style learning were provided in a class titled Acticities of Daily Living and Practice. An independent t-test was used to compare academic motivation and class satisfaction between two groups. Results: The flipped learning group showed a significantly higher level of academic motivation and class satisfaction compared to the traditional learning group (p<0.05). Conclusion: These results showed that flipped learning education is an effective learning strategy for improving the academic motivation and class satisfaction of physical therapy students.
