Factors Affecting Infant-Mother Attachment (영아-어머니간 상호작용 측면에서 애착에 영향을 미치는 요인 연구)

  • This study focused on the temperament of infants and on maternal sensitivity in the investigation of the factors which affect infant-mother attachment. The 67 infant-mother pairs were divided into two groups on the basis of attachment security scores. Results showed a relationship between infant-mother attachment and temperament. There was also a relationship between maternal sensitivity and infant temperament. Factors most strongly affecting infant-mother attachment were infant's sociability, mother's emotion, and mother's satisfaction with the degree of infant's sociability.

The Relationship Between Mother's Child-Rearing Attitude, Language Control Styles, and Preschool Child's Social Competence (어머니의 양육태도, 언어통제유형과 학령전기 아동의 사회적 능력 간의 관계)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between mother child-rearing attitude, language control styles and preschool child's social competence, and also, to provide a basis for development of a program to promote preschool child's social competence. Methods: The present study was a descriptive research. Participants in this study were a convenience sample of 300 preschool children and their mothers. For the final analysis 264 questionnaires were used after eliminating questionnaires with incomplete responses. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 18.0 program. Results: The mean score for mother's child-rearing attitude was $3.31{\pm}0.25$ out of 5 points, for hierarchical language control styles ($2.76{\pm}0.62$), commanding ($1.95{\pm}0.58$), and humanistic ($2.48{\pm}0.62$) out of 5 points, and for child's social competence, $3.50{\pm}0.34$ out of 5 points. Negative correlations were found between commanding language control styles and child's social competence (r=-.34, p<.001), and between commanding language control style and mother's child-rearing attitude (r=-.50, p<.001). Conclusion: The results demonstrate the importance of the quality of mother's child-rearing attitude and language control styles for child's social competence. It is suggested that promotion programs to enhance preschool child's social competence should be developed in conjunction with the parenting related environment.

Mother's Verbal Control Modes and Child's Peer-Relation (어머니의 언어통제유형과 아동의 또래관계)

  • This study was to investigate the following research questions. (1) Is there any gender difference in the mother's verbal control and the child's peer relation\ulcorner (2) Is there any relationship between the mother's verbal control and the child's peer relation\ulcorner (3) Is the child's peer-relation influenced by the mother's verbal control\ulcorner The subjects of this study were 157 boys and 144 girls attending elementary schools in Susan. Lee, Kyung-Hee's questionnaires(1993) on mother's verbal control modes and Lee, Ju-Lie's questionnaires(1994) on child's peer relation were used. The results were as follows: 1) The mother's imperative mode for boys differed significantly from that for girls. Boys perceived mother's verbal control mode as more imperative. 2) There were significantly correlations between mother's position- oriented mode and boy's peer relation, between mother's person-oriented mode and boy's peer relation, and between mother's position-oriented mode and girl's peer relation. 3) The mother's position-oriented mode and the mother's person-oriented mode were the predictor variables influencing on child's peer relation.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the environmental factors and the family structure on the academic achievements of their children. Among various environmental factors, the family income, the affective relationship between mother and child, and the mother's educational involvement are considered. Total of 164 mothers with children attending elementary school completed the structured questionnaires. The degree of educational involvement of single mothers was lower than that of mothers of both parents families. In order to analyze factors that affect children's academic achievement, the path regression was performed. The family income and the mother-child affective relationship were found to have indirect effects on the academic achievements of elementary school students through maternal involvement in their children's education.

The Influence of Mother's Child-based Self-worth on the Maternal Depression : The Mediating Effect of Parent-child Relationship (어머니의 자녀 수반 자기가치감이 어머니의 우울에 미치는 영향: 부모 자녀 관계의 매개효과)

  • This study aimed to examine the relation of the mother's tendency to base her self-worth on the child's achievement(child-based self-worth), negative parental relationship, and the mother's depression. For this purpose, 400 Korean mothers with children in middle and high schools completed the survey including Child-based Self-worth Scale, Adolescent-Parent relationship Scale, and CES-D scale. SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 were used to analysis procedure. The results were as follows: first, the mother's child-based self-worth, dysfunctional parent-child interaction, and depression were positively correlated to one another. Second, dysfunctional parent-child interaction fully mediated the relationship between the mother's child-based self-worth and depression. Lastly, this study discussed significance and limitations of this study, as well as proposals for future research.

  • This study develops and evaluates a mother-child relationship improvement program for poor female-headed families. The program consists of seven sessions including various physical and educational activities. The goals of this program are (1) enhancing emotional support, health, and physical intimacy among the female heads of households and their children, (2) understanding each other's wants and personalities, and (3) facilitating the communication skills and increasing knowledge on adolescent sexual development. Four mothers of poor female-headed families and four adolescent children of them were participated in the program. The result of the program evaluation shows that this program had positive effects on improving mother-child relationship and their Interaction.

The Effects of Affectionate Relationship with Children's Mother on Loneliness -Negative Cognitive Regulation's Mediating Role- (어머니와의 애정적 유대가 아동의 외로움에 미치는 영향 -부정적 인지 조절 능력의 성별 매개효과를 중심으로 -)

  • This study examined the negative cognitive regulation's mediating role between affectionate relationship with children's mother and loneliness. The subjects were 491 5th and 6th grade school children in Seoul and $Ky\breve{o}nggi$. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation and regression. Results showed that affectionate relationship with children's mother was positively related to negative cognitive regulation. Affectionate relationship with children's mother and negative cognitive regulation was negatively related to loneliness. The principal finding was that negative cognitive regulation had mediating role between affectionate relationship with children's mother and loneliness in boys. But negative cognitive regulation didn't have mediating role between affectionate relationship with children's mother and loneliness in girls.

A Study on the Market Substitutes for Housework in the United States (미국내 가사노동의 시장대체실태와 관련변수와 관한연구)

  • The purposes of this study are as follows: 1) To estimate the amounts of differences in service expenditures resulting from the effects of mother's marital and employment status. 2) To find out the relationship of socio-economic variables to expenditures for time-saving durables and services Data were taken from the 1988-1989 Consumer Expenditure Survey. The sample consisted of 2,216 families with 334 single-mother families and 1,792 married-mother families. Tobit regres-sion analyses were used to test of variables related to expenditures for (a) food away from home. (b) clothing care (c) child care (d) domestic services and (e) total services. The results of this study were as follows; 1) The percentage difference from non-employed married-mother families was higher for employed single-mother families than for other types of families indicating the positive effect on expenditures on market substitutes of mother's marital and employment status. 2) The father's wage rate was associated only with expenditures for domestic services. A positive relationship was found between family nonlabor income and domestic services Total family income was positively associated with expenditues for all dependent variables. There was a negative relationship between expenditures for child care and age of mother squared. Mother's education was associated with expenditures in all categories. Families of nonwhite spent less on time-saving durables. food away from home, and total services and spent more on apparel services than families of white mothers. The presence of young child was positively related to total services and child care services and negatively related to food away from home.

A Study on the effect of Mother's occupation and rearing attitude on personality of Child (어머니의 취업유무와 양육태도가 아동의 인성에 미치는 경향)

  • The purpose of this research is to clarify the effect on personality of the child which may be infuenced by occupation and rearing attitude of the mother. Conclusion I. Mother with occupation does not give good effect on personality of the child, that is general Activity, Stability and Sociality. Conclusion II. Child attitude of mother effects greatly on personality of the child ; i.e. (a) good relationship between husband and wife makes good effects on the personality of the child ; and (b) rejecting attitude renders effects on the Stability of the child ; and (c) dominating attitude gives effects on Reflectiveness and Sociability of the child ; i.e. (d) overprotective attitude gives effect on Stability and Dominance of the child. Conclusion III. Whereas attitude of mother with occupation is dominaning, attitude of the mother without occupation is rejective. This difference in attitude gives effect on Reflectiveness, Dominance, Impulsiveness and Sociability of the child. Conclusion IV. Economic status of the famuly renders great effects on personality of the child, and this status effects Reflectiveness, Impulsiveness and Sociability.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of relationship variables between mother-in-law and son-inlaw on a son-in-law's relation-satisfaction and negative perception. The son-in-law subjects were 319 married men aged 20-70 years, who were living their mother-in-laws in Daegu, Kyungpook, the Seoul National Capital Area(Seoul, Kyeonggy, Incheon), Busan or Kyungnam. The major findings of this study are as follows: (1) there was a significant difference in a son-in-law's relation-satisfaction of his relationship with his mother-in-law according to the number of children and (2) mutual support and a mother-in-law's conflicting attitude toward her son-in-law affected the son-in-law's relation-satisfaction and negative perception of his relationship with his mother-in-law.
