  • While global solar radiation is an essential input variable in crop models, the observation stations are relatively sparse compared with other meteorological elements. Instead of using measured solar radiation, the Angstrom-Prescott model estimates have been widely used. Monthly data for solar radiation and sunshine duration are a convenient basis for deriving Angstrom-Prescott coefficients (a, b), but it is uncertain whether daily solar radiation could be estimated with a sufficient accuracy by the monthly data - derived coefficients. We derived the Angstrom-Prescott coefficients from the 25 years observed global solar radiation and sunshine duration data at 18 locations across South Korea. In order to figure out any improvements in estimating daily solar radiation by replacing monthly data with daily data, the coefficients (a, b) for each month were derived separately from daily data and monthly data. Local coefficients for eight validation sites were extracted from the spatially interpolated maps of the coefficients and used to estimate daily solar radiation from September 2008 to August 2009 when, pyranometers were operated at the same sites for validation purpose. Comparison with the measured radiation showed a better performance of the daily data - derived coefficients in estimating daily global solar radiation than the monthly data - derived coefficients, showing 9.3% decrease in the root mean square error (RMSE).

  • In South Korea, ongoing incidents related to drinking water quality have eroded consumer trust. Specifically, beyond quality incidents, there have been complaints about taste, odor, and other issues stemming from the presence of chlorine. To address this, water service operators are employing various management strategies from both temporal (scheduling) and spatial (rechlorination) perspectives to ensure uniform and safe distribution of chlorine residuals. In this study, we focus on the optimal monthly management of chlorine residuals, based on water distribution network analysis. Water quality reaction coefficients, including bulk fluid and wall reaction coefficients, were estimated through lab-scale tests and EPANET water quality simulations, respectively, accounting for temperature variations in a large-scale water distribution network. Utilizing these estimated coefficients, we examined the monthly variations in chlorine residual distribution under different chlorine injection conditions. The results indicate that the efficient concentration for chlorine injection, which satisfies the residual chlorine limit range, varies with temperature changes. Consequently, it is imperative to establish a specific and quantitative chlorine injection plan that considers the accurate spatial distribution of monthly chlorine residuals.

  • Solar radiation data are used in several forms and for a variety of purposes. The most detailed information we have is beam and diffuse solar radiation on a horizontal surface, by hours, which is useful in simulations of solar processes. Daily data are more often available and monthly total solar radiation on horizontal surface can be used in some process design methods. However, as performance is generally not linear with solar radiation, the use of average may lead to serious errors if non-linearities ara not taken into account. It is also possible to reduce radiation data to more manageable forms by statistical methods. The control of the quality of most measurements is relegated to the control of the measuring instruments and measuring processes themselves. An accurate measurement will usually result from the use of a high-quality instrument that has been accurately calibrated and is properly used by a qualified individual.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of goal-oriented value to the financial management and financial satisfaction of female college students. The samples were selected from 541 female collegians. Data analysed were carried out using SAS package. Statistics used for data analysis was Cronbach'$\alpha$ coefficient, multiple regression, Pearson correlation analysis, and path analysis. The results were summarized as follows : First, resulting from the multiple regression analysis, the goal-oriented value had positive effects to the financial management - planning, implementing, evaluating, and saving - of female collegians. And the goal-oriented value had not indirectly but directly positive effects to the financial satisfaction. Second, the variables that have significant influence on the financial satisfaction were the level of household income, goal-oriented value, implementing, and monthly personal allowance.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between soil mites(Acarina:Cryptostigmata) and vegetation in sampled area. From July 1984 to June 1985, samples were taken monthly from coniferous forests; a pinenut (Pinus koraiensis S. et Z.) forest (site C-1), a whitepine(Pinus strobus L.) forest (site C-2), a needle fir tree(Abies holophyla Max.) forest (site C-3), and three broad-leaved forests; site B-1, B-2, and B-3 in Cholanamdo province, southerm part of Korea. Vascular plants of 152 species belonging to 115 genera (53 families) were identified. The flora in the coniferous forests were more diverse than in the broad-leaved forest. Similarity coefficient to the flora was shown highly between the neighbouring sites. The oribatid species in the coniferous forests were more diverse than those in the broadleaved forests. The similarity index suggested that oribatid mites in those surveying sites could be divided into "coniferous forest type" and "broad-leaved forest type".d forest type".uot;.

  • The 3-way balanced multi-level rotation design has been discussed (Park Kim and Kim, 2003), where the 3-way balancing is done on interview time, in monthly sample and rotation group and recall time. A greater advantage of 3-way balanced design is accomplished by an estimator. To obtain the advantage, we generalized previous generalized composite estimator (GCE). We call this as l-step GCE. The variance of the l-step GCE's of various characteristics of interest are presented. Also, we provide the coefficients which minimize the variance of the l-step GCE. Minimizing a weighted sum of variances of all concerned estimators of interest, we drive one set of the compromise coefficient of l-step GCE's to preserve additivity of estimates.

  • A formula of watershed evapotranspiration by Penman or Thonthwaite or Lowry-Johnson was used to measure its quantity of evapotranspiration until now. These formula were derived for Foreign country and, it is rather difficult to apply the above formulas to the Korean watershed. These measuring methods are merely used to measure the monthly quantities of evapotranspiration. At the research CE of a coefficient of evapotranspiration for a watershed were newly presented, which was utilized for the calculation of Beken's formula in the DAWAST model.

  • This model is the daily streamflow model of the Korean watersheds has been developed to simulate the daily streamflow with the data of daily rainfall and pan evaporation. Parameters of this model are the water balance parameters composed Umax, Lmax, FC, CP, and CE and the routing parameters composed $U_i,\;k_1\;and\;k_2$. Among these parameters, CE value is applied one fixed value during the year and coefficient of initial ion K is empirically determined by 0.2. The object of this research is to improve the DAWAST model by application of the monthly value of CE for evapotranspiration and the revised K value for the initial abstraction.

  • Six lactating crossbred cows and six Murrah buffaloes, maintained under similar conditions of feeding and management were studied for body composition by the antipyrine dilution technique. Measurements were made at the start of the experiment when the animals had completed about 50 days in lactation and thereafter at monthly intervals up to 90 days of the experimental period. The percent body water estimates in both species at different time intervals did not change significantly. Percent body fat and protein content also remained unchanged. The correlation coefficient between body composition parameters and various hormones (growth hormone, insulin, $T_3$ and $T_4$) were generally low and non-significant. It was concluded that body composition studies using body water are not sufficiently sensitive to predict changes in body composition of lactating cows and buffaloes and/or the changes in body composition during lactation are not very drastic.
