Rotifers collected from Duung and Gyeongpo wetlands in Korea were investigated. Five species belonging to five genera in four families of monogonont rotifers were identified: Cephalodella ventripes (Dixon-Nuttall), Dicranophorus grandis (Ehrenberg), Lecane undulata Hauer, Taphrocampa selenura Gosse, and Testudinella emarginula (Stenroos). All these species are new to the Korean fauna, even though they have very wide or cosmopolitan distributions. The present study is the first report on the genus Taphrocampa Gosse from Korea. The taxonomy and distribution of each new Korean record are briefly discussed here. The diagnostic characteristics, photomicrographs and the deposition of voucher specimen are provided for each new Korean record.

1988년 2월 22일 부터 동년 10월 2일까지 4차에 걸쳐 경상남도 일원의 우포늪, 주남지, 질날늪 및 외송늪의 10개 지소에서 채집한 윤형동물 중 다성류(monogonont rotifers)를 관찰한 결과 5과 4종, 9아종, 2변종 및 2형이 동정되었다. 이중에서 Testudinella mucronata hauerensis, Platyias quadricormis, Myti-lina acanthophora, Lecne ungulata ungulata, Trichocerca bicristata bicristata, Dicranophorus epicharis의 3종 및 3아종이 한국 미기록으로 이들에 대하여 재기재하였다.

The rotifers collected from various terrestrial habitats such as mosses, lichens and mushrooms on tree trunks at four different locations in Korea were investigated. Five species and one subspecies belonging to four genera in three families of monogonont and bdelloid rotifers were identified: Adineta cuneata Milne, 1916, Macrotrachela insolita De Koning, 1947, Macrotrachela musculosa Milne, 1886, Macrotrachela nana nana (Bryce, 1912), Mniobia bredensis De Koning, 1947 and Bryceella stylata (Milne, 1886). All these rotifers are new to Korea, and A. cuneata, M. bredensis and B. stylata are new to Asia as well. Here diagnostic characteristics and illustrations are provided for each Korean new record.

The rotifers collected from a brackish water zone as well as various terrestrial habitats such as mosses, ichens, and leaf litter at seven different locations in Korea were investigated. Eight species/subspecies belonging to five genera in five families of monogonont and bdelloid rotifers new to Korea were identified: Encentrum incisum, Encentrum uncinatum, Cephalodella innesi, Adineta gracilis, Macrotrachella timida timida, Macrotrachella timida inquies, Habrotrocha pavida and Habrotrocha scabropyga. Five bdelloids are new to Asia as well. Notably, these eight Korean new records included three rare species. H. scabropyga is recorded outside its type locality for the first time. For M. timida timida, this study is the third record after its description. In addition, E. incisum has been reported only from Austria, Germany and Russia before the present study.

In this study, we identified three monogonont rotifers from South Korea: Kellicottia bostoniensis (Rousselet, 1908), Trichocerca tenuior (Gosse, 1886), and Lepadella triptera (Ehrenberg, 1830). The distribution records of K. bostoniensis were mainly located in the Nearctic, Neotropic and Western Palearctic regions. After Japan, this is the second record of it in Asia. Trichocerca tenuior and Lepadella triptera have already been recorded in Korea, but the data of two species were insufficient in previous study. Here, we describe the morphological characteristics of the three species and the trophi structures of K. bostoniensis and T. tenuior. This study is the first to characterize the trophi structure of K. bostoniensis, observed using a scanning electron microscope. In addition, we have determined the partial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) and 18S rRNA gene sequences of T. tenuior and L. triptera for their DNA barcodes.

Rotifers collected from mosses, leaf litter, soil, and wetland at six different locations in Korea were investigated. Ten species belonging to six genera in four families of monogonont and bdelloid rotifers were new to Korea: Habrotrocha scepanotrochoides De Koning, 1947, H. tripus (Murray, 1907), Lecane opias (Harring and Myers, 1926), L. perpusilla (Hauer, 1929), Macrotrachela decora (Bryce, 1912), Otostephanos auriculatus auriculatus(Murray, 1911), O. torquatus amoenus Milne, 1916, Scepanotrocha corniculata Bryce, 1910, S. simplex De Koning, 1947, and Testudinella brevicaudata Yamamoto, 1951. Among these 10 Korean new records, Habrotrocha scepanotrochoides, H. tripus, Macrotrachela decora, Otostephanos auriculatus auriculatus, O. torquatus amoenus, Scepanotrocha corniculata, and S. simplex were new to Asia as well. The present study is the first report of the genus Scepanotrocha Bryce, 1910 from Korea. Here, diagnostic characteristics and photomicrographs are provided for each Korean new record. In addition, a partial sequence of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 gene (mtCOX1) for S. simplex is presented.

Four monogonont rotifers, Filinia hofmanni Koste, 1980, Lecane pusilla Harring, 1914, Mikrocodides chlaena (Gosse, 1886), and Proales fallaciosa Wulfert, 1937, were newly recorded in Korea. The genera Mikrocodides Bergendal, 1892 and Proales Gosse, 1886 were recorded for the first time in Korea. Mikrocodides chlaena and Proales fallaciosa were found from soil samples and are both soft-bodied species. Filinia hofmanni has previously been recorded mainly in Europe, and this is its first record in Asia. Lecane pusilla is the 24th lecanid rotifer recorded in Korea, and its morphological characteristics are consistent with previous research of L. pusilla. We have provided the morphological diagnoses of the four Korean specimens in this study, along with the partial sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I(COI) gene of three species.

Rotifers collected from various terrestrial and aquatic habitats such as mosses on trees or rocks, tree barks, wet mosses and wet leaf litter at streams, and dry leaf litter at four different locations in Korea, were investigated. Thirteen species belonging to nine genera in five families of monogonont and bdelloid rotifers were identified: Bryceella perpusilla Wilts, Martinez Arbizu and Ahlrichs, 2010, Collotheca ornata (Ehrenberg, 1830), Habrotrocha flava Bryce, 1915, H. pusilla (Bryce, 1893), Macrotrachela aculeata Milne, 1886, M. plicata (Bryce, 1892), Mniobia montium Murray, 1911, M. tentans Donner, 1949, Notommata cyrtopus Gosse, 1886, Philodina lepta Wulfert, 1951, P. tranquilla Wulfert, 1942, Pleuretra hystrix $Barto{\check{s}}$, 1950 and Proalinopsis caudatus (Collins, 1873). All these rotifers are new to Korea, and B. perpusilla, H. flava, M. montium, P. caudatus, P. hystrix and P. lepta are new to Asia as well. Of interest, the present study is the first to record B. perpusilla outside its type locality. In addition, P. lepta has previously been recorded from only three European countries.

In this study, three lecanid rotifer species were newly recorded in Korea: Lecane inermis (Bryce, 1892), L. furcata (Murray, 1913), and L. nana (Murray, 1913). Most of the lecanid rotifers recorded in Korea have been collected from stagnant water, and Lecane furcata and L. nana were collected from a reservoir. In contrast, L. inermis was found in a soil sample. Lecane inermis is the first illoricated lecanid species reported in Korea. This species is distinguished from other illoricated species by its toes with relatively long claws. Lecane furcata is the most common lecanid rotifer in submerged vegetation. The morphological characteristics of its lorica are similar to many other lecanid rotifers, but it can be distinguished by its completely fused toes with a terminal fissure, an absence of antero-lateral spines, and the ratio of lorica/toe length. Lecane nana is most similar to L. tryphema Harring & Myers, 1926, but can be distinguished by the toe tips curved outwards. The three species in this study are considered to have a cosmopolitan distribution and have been recorded in many Asian countries. In this paper, we describe the morphological characteristics of the three lecanid species with trophi structures observed by scanning electron microscope.

Three newly recorded rotifers were collected through surveys of several islands in Korea: Lecane perplexa (Ahlstrom, 1938); Lindia torulosa Dujardin, 1841; and Monommata maculata Harring & Myers, 1930. These species represent 24th, second, and third records of each genus discovered in Korea, respectively. Lecane perplexa and Monommata maculata, were collected from reservoirs using plankton nets, whereas Lindia torulosa was collected from a soil sample. The morphological characteristics of the discovered species are as follows: Lecane perplexa is characterized by a straight or slightly concave anterior margin of the lorica, an incomplete transverse fold on the ventral lorica, and a single toe with pseudoclaws and accessory claws; Lindia torulosa has an illoricated and vermiform body, a head with rostrum, a pair of auricles, cardate type trophi, and distinctively shaped epipharynx components; and Monommata maculata is characterized by long toes, an inner margin of rami with 10-12 serrated teeth, 3-4 large teeth, and interlocking teeth. Here, the morphological characteristics of the three Korean monogonont rotifers, which include trophi photographs, are presented. In addition, partial sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) of each species are presented.
