The next-generation Molten Salt Reactor is known for its high safety because it uses nuclear fuel dissolved in high-temperature molten salt, unlike traditional solid atomic fuel methods. However, the high-temperature molten salt causes severe corrosion in internal structural materials, threatening the reactor's safety. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate the high-temperature corrosion resistance and wear performance of materials used in reactors to ensure safety. In this study, the high-temperature corrosion resistances and wear performances of corrosion samples in a NaCl-MgCl2-KCl (20-40-40 [wt%]) molten salt are investigated to evaluate the applicability of economically viable stainless steels, 316SS and 304SS. Hastelloy C276 and a new alloy containing a small amount of Nb are used as reference samples for comparative analysis. The mass loss, mass loss rate per unit volume, and surface roughness of each sample are measured to understand the corrosion mechanisms. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive spectroscopy analyses are employed to analyze the corrosion mechanisms. Wear tests on the corroded samples are also conducted to assess the extent of corrosion. Based on the experimental results, we predict the lifespans of the materials and evaluate their suitability as candidate materials for molten salt reactors. The data obtained from the experiments provide a valuable database for structural materials that can enhance the stability of molten salt reactors and recommend high-temperature corrosion-resistant materials suitable for next-generation reactors.
In this paper, the slab method have been applied to investigate the strip casting process in which hot coil is produced from molten steel directly. In the twin roll strip casting process, molten steel supplied by the nozzle cools and solidifies due to the heat extraction effect of the rolls and hot rolling of the solidified shell takes place simultaneously. The analysis of hot rolling has been carried out by using the existing results of solidification analysis for the twin roll strip casting process. The current slab method provides basic design data such as roll separation force, rolling torque, rolling power as well as end dam separation force which are required to design strip caster. The effect of friction on the basic process parameters are investigated also. It is shown that the use of appropriate friction coefficient is important and that the characteristics of hot rolling in the twin-roll strip casting process is quite different from the conventional hot rolling processes.

Direct Metal Manufacturing (DMM) is a new additive process that aims to take die making and metalworking in an entirely new direction. It is the blending of five common technologies : lasers, computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), sensors and powder metallurgy. The resulting process creates parts by focusing an industrial laser beam onto a tool-steel work piece or platform to create a molten pool of metal. A small stream of powdered tool-steel metal is then injected into the melt pool to increase the size of the molten pool. By moving the laser beam back and forth, under CNC control, and tracing out a pattern determined by a computerized CAD design, the solid metal part is built line-by-line, one layer at a time. DMM produces improved material properties in less time and at a lower cast than is possible with traditional fabrication.

Case hardening behavior of carbon tool steel(SK5) was investigated after pulsed YAG laser irradiation. In the case od beam passes, martensite formed in the melt zone and in former pearlite regions of the austenitization zone exhibits vary high Vickers hardness values. The molten depth and width decrease as the beam power density increase. The influence of depth and width of color painted specimen was also investigated. The molten zone of the black painted specimen was the largest. The were loss of the black painted specimen was smaller than any other painted or raw material.

The advancement of the mechanical properties of metal materials caused by a recent high technology contributes to the stability and productivity of mechanical structures. However, the advanced mechanical properties depends on the conditions of crystal boundaries and the improvement of the texture. Although the tensile strength and a hardness of a steel would be increased by the adding B, it seems to be a marked decreases of the toughness which caused in the weaken workability. This study is concerned with a characteristics of the B compound which will be mixed with $H_3BO_3$ and the metallic magnesium. What affected in the mechanical property and texture is checked by the strength and the texture test. As a result, it is shown that the improvement of the mechanical property and the texture homogeneity. In addition, it seems that a molten metal which is added by the B compound is deoxized and cleansed.

The formation of spangles on a hot dip galvanized sheet steel by spray cooling the molten zinc coating with air, water and 2.0wt% $NH_4H_2PO_4$ solution has been studied performing laboratory experiments, and their coating properties have been evaluated. Minimized spangles were easily formed by mist spraying the solution for 1 second at the low nozzle spray pressure onto the molten zinc at 420~$422^{\circ}C$ because the solute $NH_4H_2PO_4$ in the sprayed solution imparted a highly rapid cooling effect to the coating through its endothermic de-composition reactions and because the decomposed products acted as numerous nucleation sites for the mini-mized spangles on the coating. Good surface appearances sand sound coating properties were obtained on this coating. Only regular spangles were formed on the coating by the forced convective air cooling. At the high nozzle spray pressure, zero spangles were formed on the coating by the pure water spray cooling. However, the coating had a dull and rough surface with craters sand cracks.

Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) is a new additive process producing three-dimensional metal components or tools directly from CAD data, which aims to take mold making and metalworking in an entirely new direction. It is the blending of five common technologies: lasers, CAD, CAM, sensors and materials. In the resulting process, alternatively called laser cladding, an industrial laser is used to locally heat a spot on a tool-steel work piece or platform, forming a molten pool of metal. A small stream of powdered tool-steel metal is then injected into the metal pool to increase the size of the molten pool. By moving the laser beam back and forth, under CNC control, and tracing out a pattern determined by a computerized CAD design, the solid metal part is eventually built line-by-line, one layer at a time. DMD produces improved material properties in less time and at a lower cost than is possible with traditional fabrication technologies.

Medium carbon steel was aluminized by hot dipping into molten Al or Al-1%Si baths. After hot-dipping in these baths, a thin Al-rich topcoat and a thick alloy layer rich in $Al_5Fe_2$ formed on the surface. A small a mount of FeAl and $Al_3Fe$ was incorporated in the alloy layer. Silicon from the Al-1%Si bath was uniformly distributed throughout the entire coating. The hot dipping increased the microhardness of the steel by about 8 times. Heating at $700-1000^{\circ}C$ however decreased the microhardness through interdiffusion between the coating and the substrate. The oxidation at $700-1000^{\circ}C$ in air formed a thin protective ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ layer, which provided good oxidation resistance. Silicon was oxidized to amorphous silica, exhibiting a glassy oxide surface.
A numerical analysis has been performed on the two-dimensional rectangular gallium melting problem using the enthalpy method. The major advantage of this method is that the physical domain is discretized with fixed grids without transforming variables and the interface conditions of phase change are accounted for the definition of suitable source terms in the governing equations. But in the fixed method, there is some ambiguity in defining the porosity constant which has no physical interpretation. If the velocity correction is included in the momentum equation, for the appropriate range of porosity constant, the realistic predictions are obtained. The object of the present work is to predict the phase change within the molten steel with thin riser slab using the modified enthalpy-porosity method. The computational procedures for predicting velocity and temperature are based on the finite volume method and the non-staggered grid system. The influence of natural convection on the melting process is considered. A comparison with the experimental results shows that the modified method is better than the previous one.
An adaptive fuzzy logic controller to regulate molten steel level in the strip casting process is presented, where parameters of fuzzy controllers are adapted stably by using Lyapunov-stability theory and a switching controller is used together to deal with the approximation error of fuzzy logic system. The level error is proven to converge to zero asymptotically. In the simulation, the clogging/unclogging of a stopper nozzle is considered and overcome by the proposed controller. Robustness to uncertainty is shown to be superior to conventional PI controller.
