The compulsory replacement method for soft ground treatment is simple but excellent in economic feasibility. However, the accurate replacement depth is not easy to properly predicted since an theoretical algorithm has not presently been established so far. In this research a prediction equation is proposed in a new form based on the liquid limit and natural moisture content rather than on the bearing capacity of the soft soil layer. The equation is based on the monitoring as well as the confirmatory boring at the site. In addition, the equation has been derived from the data obtained from the analysis of the characteristics of silt/clay of Sihwa region. The final prediction equation has been drawn by applying the regression analysis method.
Considering dredged ground is consolidated more than one meter, Compression index prediction is very important. But, UD-sampling and consolidation test are impossible because of high moisture content and weak shear strength. This paper demonstrates the compression index relation, $C_{c(d)}=F(e_d,C_c)$, between in-situ and dredged clay using N. Keith Tovey's Omega point and soil physical properties. Good relationship is confirmed between proposed formula and measured primary consolidation result on dredged ground in The Republic of Korea.

A computer-aided simulation technique was selected to predict the gain or loss of moisture in corn starch packaged with gas and moisture permeable materials under various conditions. Water activity and moisture content of corn starch was predicted by computer program at various conditions. A linear relationship was showed between water activity and equilibrium moisture content at the range of $A_w$ 0.332 to 0.90 and simulated values obtained by the proposed model was given to a dose approximation with the observed values.
Dielectric properties of sardine-starch paste with moisture content of 4 to $13\%$ were investigated as functions of moisture and frequency. And the effects of the levels of fat and starch of the mixtures upon dielectric permittivity, critical moisture, were also mentioned. In addition, a theoretical prediction of frequency dependence of dielectric constant which was computed by the lumped circuit of two layer condenser model was evaluated. For the preparation of sardine-starch paste, comminuted sardine meat was washed thoroughly several times in chilled water by soaking and decanting, and finally centrifuged. This procedure was extended longer to provide a low fat sample. The centrifuged meat was mixed with adequate amounts of starch and salt, and ground for 25 minutes in a stone mortar, moulded in the form of disk with 7cm diameter and 1.2cm thickness and then freeze dried. Dried meat disks were cut off for the size of 5.5cm diameter and 1.0cm thickness and their moisture contents were controlled in humidified desiccators with saturated solutions. Dielectric constants of sardine-starch paste tended to decrease frequency was increased showing a critical charge at the moisture called critical moisture content. In case of the sample with $20\%$ starch and $2\%$ salt an average complex permittivity($\epsilon^{\ast}$) at 7 to $8\%$ morsture as the critical moisture content was presented; $\epsilon^{\ast}$=3.37+j 0.39 at 0.1 MHz, $\epsilon^{\ast}$=2.54+j 0.19 at 15 MHz, and $\epsilon^{\ast}$=2.15+j 0.08 at 1.8 GHz, respectively. The theoretically obtained complex permittivity values from the two layer condoner model were in close agreement with these actual measurements under the same conditions, that appeared as $\epsilon^{\ast}$=2.53+i 0.09 at 0.1 MHz and $\epsilon^{\ast}$=2.28+j 0.06 at 15 MHz, respectively. The fast level of the mixture also revealed an influence on dielectric property that defatted neat with $1.0\%$ fat showed a higher hc and $\epsilon^{\ast}$ value than the meat with $4.8\%$ fat. Complex permittivity being related to the moisture level remained nearly unchanged or slightly changed at the moisture range of 4 to $8\%$ but was dispersed widely at higher moisture contents.
The main distresses that influence pavement performance are rutting, fatigue cracking, and longitudinal roughness. Thus, it is important to analyze the factors that affect these three distresses, and to develop prediction models. In this paper, three distress prediction models were developed using DataPave program which stores data from a wide variety of pavement sections In the United States. Also, sensitivity studies were conducted to evaluate how the input variables impact on the distresses. The result of sensitivity study for the prediction model of rutting showed that asphalt content, air void, and optimum moisture content of subgrade were the major factors that affect rutting. The output of sensitivity study for the prediction model of fatigue cracking revealed that asphalt consistency, asphalt content, and air void were the most influential variables. The prediction model of longitudinal roughness indicated asphalt consistency, #200 passing percent of subgrade aggregate, and asphalt content were the factors that affect longitudinal roughness.
Four models in current use for cereal grain drying, equilibrium model, Morey model, partial differential equation model and simplified partial differential equation model, were modified to be suitable for natural air drying of barley. The predicted by the four models and experimental results were compared. Three models except equilibrium model predicted moisture comtent and grain temperature very well. But equilibrium model overpredicted moisture content and grain temperature of bottom layer. The degree of prediction of the four models for relative humidities of exhaust air didn't differ much from one another and equally the four models predicted relative humidity statisfatorily. Morey model took much shorter computing time than any other models. Therefore, considering the degree of prediction and computing time Morey model was the most suitable for natural air drying of barley.
To develop the grain moisture meter using microwave free space transmission technique, a 10.5GHz microwave signal with the power of 11mW generated by an oscillar with a dielectric resonator is transmitted to an isolator and radiated from a transmitting $2{\times}2$ microstrip patch array antenna into the sample holder filled with the 12 to 26%w.b. of Korean Hwawung paddy rice. the microwave signal, attenuated through the grain with moisture, is collected by a receiving $2{\times}2$ microstrip patch array antenna and detected using a Shottky diode with excellent high frequency characteristic. A pair of light and simple microstrip patch array antenna for measurement of grain moisture content is designed and implemented on atenflon substrate with trleative dielectric constant of 2.6 and thickness of 0.54 by using Ensemble ver. 4.02 software. The aperture of microstrip patch arrays is 41 mm width and 24mm high. The characteristics of microstrip patch antenna such as grain. return loss, and bandwidth are 11.35dBi, -38dB and 0.35GHz($50^{\circ}$ at far-field pattern of E and H plane. The width of the sample holder is large enough to cover the signal between the antennas temperature and bulk density respectively. The calibration model for measurement of grain moisture content is proposed to reduce the effects of fluectuations in bulk density and temperature which give serious errors for the measurements . From the results of regression analysis using the statistically analysis method, the moisture content of grain samples (MC(%)) is expressed in terms of the output voltage(v), temperature (t), and bulk density of samples(${\rho}b$)as follows ;$$MC(%)\;=\;(-3.9838{\times}10^{-8}{\times}v^{3}+8.023{\times}10^{-6}{\times}v^{2}-0.0011{\times}v-0.0004{\times}t+0.1706){\frac{1}{{\rho}b}}{\times}100$ Its determination coefficient, standard error of prediction(SEP) and bias were found to be 0.9855, 0.479%w.b. and -0.0.369 %w.b. respectively between measured and predicted moisture contents of the grain samples.

Edible insects are gaining popularity as a potential future food source because of their high protein content and efficient use of space. Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) are noteworthy because they can be used as feed for various animals including reptiles, dogs, fish, chickens, and pigs. However, if the edible insect industry is to advance, we should use automation to reduce labor and increase production. Consequently, there is a growing demand for sensing technologies that can automate the evaluation of insect quality. This study used short-wave infrared (SWIR) hyperspectral imaging to predict the proximate composition of dried BSFL, including moisture, crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, and crude ash content. The larvae were dried at various temperatures and times, and images were captured using an SWIR camera. A partial least-squares regression (PLSR) model was developed to predict the proximate content. The SWIR-based hyperspectral camera accurately predicted the proximate composition of BSFL from the best preprocessing model; moisture, crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, and crude ash content were predicted with high accuracy, with R2 values of 0.89 or more, and root mean square error of prediction values were within 2%. Among preprocessing methods, mean normalization and max normalization methods were effective in proximate prediction models. Therefore, SWIR-based hyperspectral cameras can be used to create automated quality management systems for BSFL.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of the homogenizing grade of sample on absorbance of near infrared reflectance spectrophotometer with which chemical compositions of food were rapidly and effectively analyzed. By the mathematical treatment of absorbance values standard error of prediction was reduced as follows. 1. The absorbance values of various samples ground for the same periods of time were calibrated before or after treatment with first or second derivative in an attempt to accurately predict the components of samples ground for the different periods of time. The standard error of prediction for moisture content were 1.478%, 0.658% and 0.580%, respectively, those for fat content 0.949%, 0.637% and 0.527%, respectively, and those for protein content 0.514%, 0.493% and 0.394%, respectively. Calibration of absorbance values after second derivative treatment showed the highest accuracy in predicting sample components. 2. The absorbance values of various samples ground for the different periods of time were calibrated before or after treatment with first or second derivative in order to accurately predict the components of samples ground for the different periods of time. The standard error of prediction for moisture content were 1.026%, 0.589% and 0.568%, respectively, and those for protein content 0.860%, 0.557% and 0.399%, respectively. The standard error of prediction were lower in the order of calibrations before and after first and second derivative treatments. As a result, calibration of absorbance values after second derivative treatment showed higher accuracy regardless of grinding time of samples.
This study was performed to develop a simulation model of circulating concurrent-flow rice dryer. The simulation model consists of drying model, tempering model and crack prediction model. The drying and tempering models were developed based on mathematical analysis, and the crack prediction model was developed by thin layer drying tests. Rice drying tests were done with three replications by use of a pilot scale dryer of holding capacity of 700 kg. Experimental values for moisture content, rice temperature, rice crack, and drying energy were compared with predicted values by simulation model. The RMSEs of predicted moisture contents were ranged from 0.5807% (d.b.) to 1.1951% (d.b.). and the coefficients of determination were 0.9688 to 0.9812. The RMSEs of predicted rice temperatures at the exit of the drying chamber were 1.83 to $3.81^{\circ}C$ and the coefficients of determination were 0.8834 to 0.9482. The results for moisture contents and rice temperatures showed very good relationships between predicted values and experimental values. The RMSEs of predicted value of crack ratio were 0.4082 to 0.7967% and the coefficients of determination were 0.8742 to 0.9547.
