Hydraulic instability associated with pressure fluctuations is a serious problem in hydraulic machinery. Pressure fluctuations are usually a result of a strong vortex created in the centre of a flow at the outlet of a runner. At every radial turbine and also at every single regulating axial turbine, the draft tube vortex appears at part-load operating regimes. The consequences of the vortex developed in the draft tube are very unpleasant pressure pulsation, axial and radial forces and torque fluctuation as well as turbine structure vibration. The consequences of the vortex are transferred upstream and downstream with amplitude and frequency modulation in respect of the turbine operating regime, cavitation conditions and air admitted content. Numerical prediction of the vortex appearance in the design stage is a very important task. The amplitude of the pressure pulsation is different for each operating regime therefore the main goal of this research was to numerically predict pressure pulsation amplitude versus different guide vane openings and to compare the results with experimental ones. For the numerical flow analysis of a complete Francis turbine (FT), the computer code ANSYS-CFX11 has been used.

The performance of turbo codes is investigated in the direct detection optical PPM channel. We assume that an ideal photon counter is used as an optical detector and that the channel has background noise as well as quantum noise. Resulting channel model is M-ary PPM Poisson channel. We propose the structure of the transmitter and receiver for applying turbo codes to this channel. We also derive turbo decoding algorithm for the proposed coding system, by modifying the calculation of the branch metric inherent in the original turbo decoding algorithm developed for the AWGN channel. Analytical bounds are derived and computer simulation is performed to analyze the performance of the proposed coding scheme, and the results are compared with the performances of Reed-Solomon codes and convolutional codes.

In the blind Maximum-likelihood (ML) detection for Orthogonal Space-Time Block Codes (OSTBC), the problem of ambiguity in determining the symbols has been a great concern. A possible solution to this problem is to apply semi-blind ML detection, i.e. the blind ML decoding with pilot symbols or training sequence. In order to increase the performance, the number of pilot symbols or length of training sequence should be increased. Unfortunately, this leads to a significantly decrease in system spectral efficiency. This work presents an approach to resolve the aforementioned issue by introducing a new method for constructing transmitted information symbols, in which transmitting information symbols drawn form different modulation constellations. Therefore, the ambiguity can be easily eliminated. In addition, computer simulation is implemented to verify the performance of the proposed approach.

This paper describes on-board decentralized data acquisition system that acquires and encodes the numerous sensor data distributed on the big flight vehicles efficiently. The system's sub-units which have one encoder unit and several remote units were designed and simulated according to the communication protocols and the control, sequence logics based on the FPGA chip. And we have made the functional verification of the acquisition, collection and formatting of remote analog and digital data for the manufactured hardwares.

In this paper, we propose and present implementation results of a high-speed turbo decoding algorithm. The latency caused by (de) interleaving and iterative decoding in a conventional maximum a posteriori(MAP) turbo decoder can be dramatically reduced with the proposed design. The source of the latency reduction is come from the combination of the radix-4, dual-path processing, parallel decoding, and rearly-stop algorithms. This reduced latency enables the use of the turbo decoder as a forward error correction scheme in real-time wireless communication services. The proposed scheme results in a slight degradation in bit-error rate(BER) performance for large block sizes because the effective interleaver size in a radix-4 implementation is reduced to half, relative to the conventional method. Fixed on the parameters of N=212, iteration=3, 8-states, 3 iterations, and QPSK modulation scheme, we designed the adaptive high-speed turbo decoder using the Xilinx chip (VIRTEX2P (XC2VP30-5FG676)) with the speed of 17.78 Mb/s. From the results, we confirmed that the decoding speed of the proposed decoder is faster than conventional algorithms by 8 times.

Multicarrier code division multiple access(MC-CDMA) Is a scheme that combines multicarrier modulation with CDMA. It offers robustness to frequency selective fading and can support higher rate data transmission with higher spectral efficiency. The objective of this article to proposed a new asynchronous ME-CDMA system to implement multiple data rate communications. It can be accomplished by changing the number of parallel branch(.p). For the analysis of average BER performance, numerical method and computer simulation were used. After MAI power of received signal calculated, the average BER can be acriuired using Gaussian approximation to MAI. We also compare the system performance with that of a single rate MC-CDMA system.
Self-encoded spread spectrum (SESS) is a novel modulation technique that acquires its spreading code from a random information source, rather than using the traditional pseudo-random noise (PN) codes. In this paper, we present our study of the SESS system performance under pulsed-noise jamming and show that iterative detection can significantly improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. The jamming performance of the SESS with correlation detection is verified to be similar to that of the conventional direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) system. On the other hand, the time diversity detection of the SESS can completely mitigate the effect of jamming by exploiting the inherent temporal diversity of the SESS system. Furthermore, iterative detection with multiple iterations can not only eliminate the jamming completely but also achieve a gain of approximately 1 dB at $10^{-3}$ BER as compared with the binary phase shift keying (BPSK) system under additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) by effectively combining the correlation and time diversity detections.

A layered coding scheme is one of the adaptive receiving techniques for unidirectional services such as multimedia broadcasting and multicasting services (MBMS), where we cannot utilize feedback information. The layered coding scheme can be used with hierarchical modulations by combining suitable code rates and modulation orders of each. In addition, it has been reported that hybrid and/or integrated satellite systems can effectively achieve transmit diversity gains by appropriate utilization of space time coding combined with turbo codes. This paper proposes a layered turbo coding schemes for hybrid and/or integrated satellite systems. We first introduce the system architecture and operational principle of the proposed scheme, and discuss the applicability.
We present the results of new CCD photometry for the contact binary BX Peg, made during three successive months beginning on September 2008. As do historical light curves, our observations display an O'Connell effect and the November data by themselves indicate clear evidence for very short-time brightness disturbance. For these variations, model spots are applied separately to the two data set of Group I (Sep.--Oct.) and Group II (Nov.). The former is described by a single cool spot on the secondary photosphere and the latter by a two-spot model with a cool spot on the cool star and a hot one on either star. These are generalized manifestations of the magnetic activity of the binary system. Twenty light-curve timings calculated from Wilson-Devinney code were used for a period study, together with all other minimum epochs. The complex period changes of BX Peg can be sorted into a secular period decrease caused dominantly by angular momentum loss due to magnetic stellar wind braking, a light-travel-time (LTT) effect due to the gravitational effect of a low-mass third companion, and a previously unknown short-term oscillation. This last period modulation could be produced either by a second LTT orbit with a period of about 16 yr due to the existence of a fourth body or by the effect of magnetic activity with a cycle length of about 12 yr.
This paper presents a transceiver module for human body communications whereby a spread signal with a group of 64 Walsh codes is directly transferred through a human body at a chip rate of 32 Mcps. Frequency selective digital transmission moves the signal spectrum over 5 MHz without continuous frequency modulation and increases the immunity to induced interference by the processing gain. A simple receiver structure with no additional analog circuitry for the transmitter has been developed and has a sensitivity of 250 ${\mu}V_{pp}$. The high sensitivity of the receiver makes it possible to communicate between mobile devices using a human body as the transmission medium. It enables half-duplex communication of 2 Mbps within an operating range of up to 170 cm between the ultra-mobile PCs held between fingertips of each hand with a packet error rate of lower than $10^{-6}$. The transceiver module consumes 59 mA with a 3.3 V power supply.
