Analysis of Discrete Noise Characteristics for the Cross Flow Fan with Uniform/Random hitch Blades (횡류홴 등/부등피치 블레이드의 이산소음 특성 분석)

  • The discrete noise of the cross-flow fan with uniform/random pitch blades is predicted by computational methods. With the time dependent surface pressure data obtained by solving the Wavier-Stokes equation, the acoustic pressure is calculated by the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings equation. The positions of the blade noise source are identified through investigation of the acoustic pressure history induced by one blade, and it is confirmed that the dominant noise source is near the stabilizer. Since the acoustic pressure of the random pitch fan fluctuates according to blade passing, the dominant BPF noise for the uniform pitch fan is modified into some reduced discrete noises which have a 50Hz difference from BPF.

  • Specially designed and 3D printed samples were prepared and joined by a diode laser source. To increase the strength of joining and reliability of samples, the surface was patterned by using a 3D printer. The joining surface was prepared as hemispherical shape with no-patterns, 0.5mm pitch, 0.75mm pitch and 1mm pitch. The optical properties of samples were measured by using an integrated sphere where classical Kubelka-Munk theory and modified Richard-Mudgetts theory for the analysis applied. Scanning speed was set at 500mm/min and laser power was varied between 9 and 10watts for the preliminary joining characteristic analysis.

  • To enhance electrochemical performances of anode materials, the surface of coal tar pitch (CTP) was modified by incorporating heteroatoms through chemical treatment with phosphoric acid ($H_3PO_4$). The prepared anode materials with modified CTP was analyzed by XRD, FE-SEM and XPS. The electrochemical performances of modified CTP were investigated by constant current charge/discharge test, rate performance, cyclic voltammetry and impedance tests using the electrolyte of $LiPF_6$ dissolved in the mixed organic solvents (ethylene carbonate : dimethyl carbonate = 1 : 1 vol% + vinylene carbonate 3 wt%). The coin cell using modified CTP ($H_3PO_4/CTP$ = 3 : 100 in weight) has better initial capacity and initial efficiency (489 mAh/g, 82%) than those of other composition coin cells. Also, it was found that the capacity retention was 86% after 30 cycles and the rate capability was 87% at 2 C/0.1 C.

  • Up to the present the study on the performance prediction of HAWT was perfomed mainly by assuming the axial flow. So in this paper we aimed at the fully non-axial flow of HAWT. For this purpose, we defined the wind turbine pitch angle in addition to the yaw angle to specify the arbitrary wind direction. And we adopted the Glauert method as the basic analysis method then modified this method suitably for our goal. By comparing the computational results obtained by this modified new Glaurert method with the experimental results, it was proved that our method was a very efficient method.

Dynamic Shear Stress of Tough-Pitch Copper at High Strain and High Strain-Rate

  • Dynamic shear tests for the tough-pitch copper at high strain and high strain rate was performed. The Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) compression test system was modified to yield a shear deformation in the specimen. Hat-shaped specimens for the tough-pitch copper were adopted to generate high strain of γ=3~4 and high strain-rate of γ= 10$^4$/s. The dynamic analysis by ABAQUS 5.5/EXPLICIT code verified that shear zone can be localized in hat-shaped specimens. A proper impact velocity and the axial length of the shear localization region wert determined through the elastic wave analysis. The displacement in a hat-shaped specimen is limited by a spacer ring which was installed between the specimen and the incident bar. The shear bands were obtained by measuring the direction of shear deformation and the width of deformed grain in the shear zone. The decrease of specimen length has been measured on the optical displacement transducer. Dynamic shear stress-strain relations in the tough-pitch copper were obtained at two strain-rates.

  • Numerical and experimental studies are presented for turbulent flows and heat transfer in annular channel with circumferential fins on the inner tube in a double pipe heat exchanger. Flow and heat transfer characteristics are periodically fully developed, and complex flow patterns are shown. Numerical calculations are executed by using modified TEACH-2E computer program based on the standard k-.epsilon. turbulence model. Mean velocity, turbulent kinetic energy, and Reynolds stress distributions are measured with the hot wire anemometer. Static pressures on the outer wall of the pipe are measured for three pitch-height ratios and several Reynolds numbers. Numerical predictions generally show reasonable results in comparison with experimental results. When the pitch-height ratio is about 5.0 and other geometric parameters are fixed in this paper, maximum heat transfer is achieved. Reattaching flow patterns appeared in this region. As the pitch between fins is increased beyond 5.0, mean Nusselt numbers are decreased and the pressure drop through one pitch almost remains.

  • Green pitch coke with an average particle size of 2 mm was adopted as densifier and added to the raw materials of conventional A3-3 matrix graphite (MG) to prepare modified A3-3 matrix graphite (MMG) by the quasi-isostatic molding method. The structure, mechanical and thermal properties were assessed. Compared with MG, MMG had a more compact structure, and exhibited improved properties of higher mechanical strength, higher thermal conductivity and better molten salt barrier performance. Notably, under the same infiltration pressure of 5 atm, the fluoride salt occupation of MMG was only 0.26 wt%, whereas it was 15.82 wt% for MG. The densification effect of green pitch coke endowed MMG with improved properties for potential use in the spherical fuel elements of molten salt reactor.

A comparison of acoustic & electroglottographic measures according to voiced lip trill methods (입술 트릴의 방법에 따른 음향학적 및 전기성문파형검사 측정치 비교)

  • The purpose of the current study was to compare selected acoustic and electroglottographic measures (closed quotient, pitch, and loudness) among vowel phonation, traditional voiced lip trill ($VLT_T$), modified voiced lip trill methods ($VLT_M$). A total of 21 participants without voice complaints produced 4-second long samples using each phonation method. Results indicated that mean closed quotient of $VLT_M$ was higher than that of vowel phonation and $VLT_T$, while its range and standard deviation measures were higher than those of vowel phonation. Mean, range, standard deviation, maximum of pitch measures of $VLT_M$ were higher than those of vowel phonation. Lastly, mean and maximum loudness of the $VLT_M$ were higher than $VLT_T$. In conclusion, the current data indicate the possibility to use the $VLT_M$ as a training method for singing or a strategy to facilitate generalization effect of voice therapy. Current results also reflect the necessity for further study pertaining to the long-term effect of the $VLT_M$ training method. Clinical implications are discussed.

A Simple and Fast Pitch Search Algorithm Using a Modified Skipping Technique in CELP Vocoder (개선된 Skipping 기법을 이용한 CELP 보코더에서의 고속피치검색 알고리듬)

  • Based on the Characteristics of the correlation function of speech signal, the skipping technique can reduced the computation time considerably with a little degradation of speech quality. To improve the speech quality of the skipping technique, we use the reduced form of the correlation function to check the sign of the correlation value before the match score is calculated. The experimental results show that this modified skipping technique can reduce the computation time in pitch search over 35% compared with the traditional full search method without quality degradation.
