  • As a study on Speaker-Independent Isolated Word Recognition, a Modified ISODATA clustering method is proposed. This method simplifies the outlier processing and the splitting procedure in conventional ISODATA algorithm, and eliminates the lumping procedure. Through this method, we could find cluster centers precisely and automatically. When this method applied to 11 digits by 10 males and 4 females, its recognition rates of $84.42\%$ for K=4 were better than those of the latest Modified K-means, $82.5\%$. Judging from these results, we proved this method the best method in finding cluster centers precisely.

  • In this paper, a new method of modified second order slope rotatable designs (SOSRD) using balanced incomplete block designs (BIBD) for $4{\le}v{\le}16$ is presented. In this method the number of design points required is in some cases less than the number required in Victorbabu (2305) modified slope rotatable central composite designs. Further, a new method of construction of three level modified SOSRD using BIBD is presented. The modified SOSRD can be viewed as SOSRD constructed with the technique of augmentation of second order rotatable design (SORD) using BIBD to SOSRD. These designs are useful in parts to estimate responses and slopes with spherical variance functions.

  • This paper discusses the error propagation characteristics of the Newmark explicit method, modified Newmark explicit method and ${\alpha}$-function dissipative explicit method in pseudodynamic tests. The Newmark explicit method is non-dissipative while the ${\alpha}$-function dissipative explicit method and the modified Newmark explicit method are dissipative and can eliminate the spurious participation of high frequency responses. In addition, error propagation analysis shows that the modified Newmark explicit method and the ${\alpha}$-function dissipative explicit method possess much better error propagation properties when compared to the Newmark explicit method. The major disadvantages of the modified Newmark explicit method are the positive lower stability limit and undesired numerical dissipation. Thus, the ${\alpha}$-function dissipative explicit method might be the most appropriate explicit pseudodynamic algorithm.

  • Web information service needs a document classification system for efficient management and conveniently searches. Existing document classification systems have a problem of low accuracy in classification, if a few number of feature words is selected in documents or if the number of documents that belong to a specific category is excessively large. To solve this problem, we propose a document classification system using 'Modified ECCD' feature selection method and 'Category Weight for each Document'. Experimental results show that the 'Modified ECCD' feature selection method has higher accuracy in classification than ${\chi}^2$ and the ECCD method. Moreover, combining the 'Category Weight for each Document' feature value and 'Modified ECCD' feature selection method results better accuracy in classification.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to compare the incidence of possible complications of cervical lateral screw fixation and the achievements of bicortical purchase using the Roy-Camille, Magerl and the modified methods. Methods : Six fresh-frozen cervical spine segments were harvested. The Roy-Camille technique was applied to C3 and C4, and the Magerl technique was applied to C5, C6, and C7 of one side of each cadaver. The modified technique was applied to the other side of each cadaver. The nerve root injury, violation of the facet joint, vertebral artery injury, and the bicortication were examined at each screwing level. Results : No vertebral artery injury was observed in any of the three methods. One nerve root injury was observed in each cervical spine segment using the Roy-Camille method (8.3%), the Magerl method (5.6%), and the modified method (3.3%). Facet joint injuries were observed in two cervical spinal segments using the Roy-Camille method (16.7%) and three with the Magerl method (16.7%), while five facet joint violations occurred when using the modified method (16.7%). Bicortical purchases were achieved on ten cervical spinal segments with the Roy-Camille method (83.3%) and Magerl method (55.6%), while twenty bicortical purchases were achieved in the modified method (66.7%). Conclusion : The advantages of the modified method are that it is performed by using given anatomical structures and that the complication rate is as low as those of other known methods. This modified method can be performed easily and safely without fluoroscopic assistance for the treatment of many cervical diseases.

  • Numerical analysis of slop stability is carried out using seismic intensity, modified seismic intensity, and response seismic coefficient methods. It is found by comparing each of method that minimum safety factor precedes the required safety factor. It is also proved during analysis that most conservative method is the earthquake response analysis method, next is the response seismic coefficient method, and last one is the seismic intensity method. Usually, seismic intensity method is applied in analysis of slop stability. However, in view of safety factor, modified seismic intensity method is more conservative than seismic intensity method. Also modified seismic intensity method is appropriate when height of structure analyzed is high enough.

  • The species diversity of plant communities is quantitatively measured, and can be affected by plant monitoring methods. This study experimentally compared the structure and diversity of plant communities living in five waterfront park areas in Nak-dong River using three plant survey methods (modified Whittaker, modified Daubenmire, and modified point-line intercept method). According to the diversity profile, the modified Whittaker method produced the highest species richness regardless of the location, but which method makes the highest diversity of dominant species varies depending on the location. The Beta diversity of the communites calculated from the modified Whittaker and the modified Daubenmire suggested that structures of plant communities in five locations were similar, while the Point-line interception method suggested that a small number of dominant species were shared between communities.

  • We consider some problems of the Modified SPRT(Sequential Probability Ratio Test) method for fault detection and isolation of inertial redundant sensor systems and propose an Advanced SPRT method which solves the problems of the Modified SPRT method. The problems of the Modified SPRT method to apply to inertial sensor system come from the effect of inertial sensor errors and the correlation of parity vector components. We use a two-stage Kalman filter to remove effects of the inertial sensor errors and propose the modified parity vector and the controlled parity vector which reduces the effect of correlation of parity vector components. The Advanced SPRT method is derived form the modified parity vector and the controlled party vector. Some simulation results are presented to show the usefulness of the Advanced SPRT method to redundant inertial sensor systems.

  • The control rod drive mechanism needs to be debugged after reactor fresh fuel loading. It is of great importance to monitor the subcriticality of this process accurately. A modified method was applied to the subcriticality monitoring process, in which only a single control rod cluster was fully withdrawn from the core. In order to correct the error in the results obtained by Neutron Source Multiplication Method, which is based on one point reactor model, Monte Carlo neutron transport code was employed to calculate the fission neutron distribution, the iterated fission probability and the neutron flux in the neutron detector. This article analyzed the effect of a coarse mesh and a fine mesh to tally fission neutron distributions, the iterated fission probability distributions and to calculate correction factors. The subcriticality before and after modification is compared with the subcriticality calculated by MCNP code. The modified results turn out to be closer to calculation. It's feasible to implement the modified NSM method in large local reactivity addition process using Monte Carlo code based on 3D model.

  • A modified gas tracer method was used to obtain reaeration coefficient from an artificial channel and a reach of Bokha stream, Ichon city. Propane was used as the tracer gas and Rhodamine-B dye as a dispersion and dulution tracer. Concentrations of propane in water sample were measured using a gas chromatograph and concentrationsof dye using UV-Spectrophotometer. To compare measured values with predicted values, commonly used 14 equations were selected . Results of this study suggested that the modified gas tracer method is a potentially useful procedure for th edetermination of reaeration cofficients. However, estimated reaeration coefficients from predictive equations were significantly different from that of this study. Therefore, when using predictive equations, careful selection of equation with consideration for hydraulic characteristics such as flow depth and average velocity, or use of newly derived predictive equation which is adequate for questioned stream would be needed.
