Objective : The use of indocyanine green videoangiography (ICG-VA) to assess blood flow in the brain during cerebrovascular surgery has been increasing. Clinical studies on ICG-VA have predominantly focused on qualitative analysis. However, quantitative analysis numerical modelling for time profiling enables a more accurate evaluation of blood flow kinetics. In this study, we established a multiple exponential modified Gaussian (multi-EMG) model for quantitative ICG-VA to understand accurately the status of cerebral hemodynamics. Methods : We obtained clinical data of cerebral blood flow acquired the quantitative analysis ICG-VA during cerebrovascular surgery. Varied asymmetric peak functions were compared to find the most matching function form with clinical data by using a nonlinear regression algorithm. To verify the result of the nonlinear regression, the mode function was applied to various types of data. Results : The proposed multi-EMG model is well fitted to the clinical data. Because the primary parameters-growth and decay rates, and peak center and heights-of the model are characteristics of model function, they provide accurate reference values for assessing cerebral hemodynamics in various conditions. In addition, the primary parameters can be estimated on the curves with partially missed data. The accuracy of the model estimation was verified by a repeated curve fitting method using manipulation of missing data. Conclusion : The multi-EMG model can possibly serve as a universal model for cerebral hemodynamics in a comparison with other asymmetric peak functions. According to the results, the model can be helpful for clinical research assessment of cerebrovascular hemodynamics in a clinical setting.

Ensuring reliability of a machinery system involve the prediction of remaining useful life (RUL). In most RUL prediction approaches, noise is always considered for removal. Nevertheless, noise could be properly utilized to enhance the prediction capabilities. In this paper, we proposed a novel RUL prediction approach based on noise injection and a Kalman filter ensemble of modified bagging predictors. Firstly, we proposed a new method to insert Gaussian noises into both observation and feature spaces of an original training dataset, named GN-DAFC. Secondly, we developed a modified bagging method based on Kalman filter averaging, named KBAG. Then, we developed a new ensemble method which is a Kalman filter ensemble of KBAGs, named DKBAG. Finally, we proposed a novel RUL prediction approach GN-DAFC-DKBAG in which the optimal noise-injected training dataset was determined by a GN-DAFC-based searching strategy and then inputted to a DKBAG model. Our approach is validated on the NASA C-MAPSS dataset of aero-engines. Experimental results show that our approach achieves significantly better performance than a traditional Kalman filter ensemble of single learning models (KESLM) and the original DKBAG approaches. We also found that the optimal noise-injected data could improve the prediction performance of both KESLM and DKBAG. We further compare our approach with two advanced ensemble approaches, and the results indicate that the former also has better performance than the latters. Thus, our approach of combining optimal noise injection and DKBAG provides an effective solution for RUL estimation of machinery systems.
Speaker verification determines whether the claimed speaker is accepted based on the score of the test utterance. In recent years, methods based on Gaussian mixture models and universal background model have been the dominant approaches for text-independent speaker verification. These speaker verification systems based on these methods provide very good performance under laboratory conditions. However, in real situations, the performance of speaker verification system is degraded dramatically. For overcoming this performance degradation, the feature recombination method was proposed, but this method had a drawback that whole sub-band feature vectors are used to compute the likelihood scores. To deal with this drawback, a modified feature recombination method which can use each sub-band likelihood score independently was proposed in our previous research. In this paper, we propose a sub-band weighting method based on sub-band signal-to-noise ratio which is combined with previously proposed modified feature recombination. This proposed method reduces errors by 28% compared with the conventional feature recombination method.
There are two primary causes of the ground movement due to tunnelling in urban areas; firstly the lost ground and secondly the groundwater depression during construction. The groundwater depression was usually not considered as a cause of settlement in previous research works. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the combined effect of these two phenomena on the transverse settlement trough. Centrifuge model tests and numerical analysis were primarily selected as the methodology. The characteristics of settlement trough were analyzed by performing centrifuge model tests where acceleration reached up to 80g condition. Two different types of tunnel models of 180 mm diameter were prepared in order to match the prototype of a large tunnel of 14.4 m diameter. A volume loss model was made to simulate the excavation procedure at different volume loss and a drainage tunnel model was made to simulate the reduction in pore pressure distribution. Numerical analysis was performed using FLAC 2D program in order to analyze the effects of various groundwater depression values on the settlement trough. Unconfined fluid flow condition was selected to develop the phreatic surface and groundwater level on the surface. The settlement troughs obtained in the results were investigated according to the combined effect of excavation and groundwater depression. Subsequently, a new curve is suggested to consider elastic settlement in the modified Gaussian curve. The results show that the effects of groundwater depression are considerable as the settlement trough gets deeper and wider compared to the trough obtained only due to excavation. The relationships of maximum settlement and infection point with the reduced pore pressure at tunnel centerline are also suggested.

In this paper, we analyze transmission characteristics of ultrashort laser pulses using the property of high-order pulses which are systematically obtained following their orders. The high-order pulses are easily derived from a modified PRS system model. But we make clear they are very useful to cover wider area and more accurate transmission characteristics of ultrashort pulses than Gaussian or Sech pulse approximations used conventionally. This may be based on the fact that the spectra and bandwidths of the high-order pulses are beautifully related to their orders. first modifying the generalized PRS system model, we propose a new model for deriving any type of high-order pulse. And we offer a novel analysis method of ultrashort pulse transmission which has any shape and FWHM, using the proposed model. In addition, by fixing the pulse range $\tau$=1(ps) and varying the order of the pulse from n:1 to n=100, we obtain spectra of ultrashort pulses with 1(ps)-150(fs) FWHM's, which are widely used in fiber communications. As a one-step further, we derive PSD's of their pulse trains when they are applied to Unipolar signaling scheme. These PSD's are decided in the range of possible pulse intervals. All of these results are not only coincided with some conventional experimental works but also will be applied to any pioneering ultrashort pulse in the future.

In this paper, the forensic marking algorithm is proposed using psychoacoustic model II and MDCT for high-quality audio. The proposed forensic marking method, that inserts the user fingerprinting code of the audio content into the selected sub-band, in which audio signal energy is lower than the spectrum masking level. In the range of the one frame which has 2,048 samples for FFT of original audio signal, the audio forensic marking is processed in 3 sub-bands. According to the average attack of the fingerprinting codes, one frame's SNR is measured on 100% trace ratio of the collusion codes. When the lower strength 0.1 of the inserted fingerprinting code, SNR is 38.44dB. And in case, the added strength 0.5 of white gaussian noise, SNR is 19.09dB. As a result, it confirms that the proposed audio forensic marking algorithm is maintained the marking robustness of the fingerprinting code and the audio high-quality.

In this paper, as a new category of fuzzy-neural networks architecture, we propose Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks (FPNN) and discuss a comprehensive design methodology related to its architecture. FPNN dwells on the ideas of fuzzy rule-based computing and neural networks. The FPNN architecture consists of layers with activation nodes based on fuzzy inference rules. Here each activation node is presented as Fuzzy Polynomial Neuron(FPN). The conclusion part of the rules, especially the regression polynomial, uses several types of high-order polynomials such as linear, quadratic and modified quadratic. As the premise part of the rules, both triangular and Gaussian-like membership functions are studied. It is worth stressing that the number of the layers and the nods in each layer of the FPNN are not predetermined, unlike in the case of the popular multilayer perceptron structure, but these are generated in a dynamic manner. With the aid of two representative time series process data, a detailed design procedure is discussed, and the stability is introduced as a measure of stability of the model for the comparative analysis of various architectures.

Moving object detection is a fundamental technique in visual surveillance. Robust technique to enhance performance of moving object detection is required for several bad conditions in real external circumtance. In case of sudden illumination change in outdoor condition, many objects are determined as moving object though they are not really moving, but just their illumination changes. This makes the detection result untrustworthy. In this paper, robust moving object detection to sudden illumination change using gaussian mixture background model and new texture information using background from the weighted sum of recent images is proposed.

In this paper, we propose a novel method to improve the performance of the improved minima controlled recursive averaging (IMCRA) in non-stationary noisy environment. The conventional IMCRA algorithm efficiently estimate the noise power by averaging past spectral power values based on a smoothing parameter that is adjusted by the signal presence probability in frequency subbands. Since the minimum of smoothing parameter is defined as 0.85, it is difficult to obtain the robust estimates of the noise power in non-stationary noisy environments that is rapidly changed the spectral characteristics such as babble noise. For this reason, we proposed the modified IMCRA, which adaptively estimate and updata the noise power according to the noise type classified by the Gaussian mixture model (GMM). The performances of the proposed method are evaluated by perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) and composite measure under various environments and better results compared with the conventional method are obtained.

We measured the variance of eddy diffusion and associated ‘diffusion coefficients’ in coastal regions of Korea by observing the separation distances among multiple drifters deployed simultaneously at the same initial position. The variance of eddy diffusion was found to be proportional to $t^m$, where t is the time and m is a non-integer scaling exponent between 1.5 and 3.5. The observed scaling exponent of eddy diffusion cannot be reproduced by diffusion models employing constant eddy diffusivity. In this study, we applied fractal theory in simulating exponential increase of variance of eddy diffusion. We employed the fGn(fractional Gaussian noise) as a ‘modified’ random walks corresponding to the oceanic eddy diffusion. The variance of eddy diffusion, which corresponds to the fBm(fractional Brown motion) of our diffusion model, is proportional to $t^{2H}$, where H is Hurst scaling exponent. The temporal increase of the variance. with scaling exponent between 1 and 2, was successfully reproduced by our fractal diffusion model. However, our model cannot reproduce scaling exponent greater than 2. The scaling exponents greater than 2 are associated with the velocity shear of the mean flow.
