An Ontology-based Cloud Storage for Reusing Weapon Models (무기체계 모델 재사용을 위한 온톨로지 기반 클라우드 저장소 연구)

  • Defense Modeling and Simulation aims to provide a computerized war environment where we can analyze weapon systems realistically. As we invest significant efforts to represent weapon systems and their operational environments on the computer, there has been an increasing need to reuse predefined weapon models. In this paper, we introduce OB-Cloud (Ontology-Based Cloud storage) to utilize predefined weapon models. OB-Cloud has been implemented as a repository for OpenSIM (Open Simulation engine for Interoperable Models), which is an integrated simulation environment for aiding weapons effectiveness analysis, under the development of our research team. OB-Cloud uses weapon ontology and thesaurus dictionaries to provide semantic search for reusable models. In this paper, we present repository services of OB-Cloud, including registration of weapon models and semantic retrieval of similar models, and illustrate how we can improve reusability of weapon models, through an example.

iPSC technology-Powerful hand for disease modeling and therapeutic screen

  • Cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases are major health threats in many developed countries. Recently, target tissues derived from human embryonic stem (hES) cells and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), such as cardiomyocytes (CMs) or neurons, have been actively mobilized for drug screening. Knowledge of drug toxicity and efficacy obtained using stem cell-derived tissues could parallel that obtained from human trials. Furthermore, iPSC disease models could be advantageous in the development of personalized medicine in various parts of disease sectors. To obtain the maximum benefit from iPSCs in disease modeling, researchers are now focusing on aging, maturation, and metabolism to recapitulate the pathological features seen in patients. Compared to pediatric disease modeling, adult-onset disease modeling with iPSCs requires proper maturation for full manifestation of pathological features. Herein, the success of iPSC technology, focusing on patient-specific drug treatment, maturation-based disease modeling, and alternative approaches to compensate for the current limitations of patient iPSC modeling, will be further discussed. MODELING SATELLITE IMAGE STRIPS WITH COLLINEARITY-BASED AND ORBIT-BASED SENSOR MODELS

  • Usually to achieve precise geolocation of satellite images, we need to get GCPs (Ground control points) from individual scenes. This requirement greatly increases the cost and processing time for satellite mapping. In this article, we focus on finding appropriate sensor models for entire image strips composing of several adjacent scenes. We tested the feasibility of modelling whole satellite image strips by establishing sensor models of one scene with GCPs and by applying the models to neighboring scenes without GCPs. For this, we developed two types of sensor models: collinearity-based type and orbit-based type and tested them using different sets of unknowns. Results indicated that although the performance of two types was very similar, for modelling individual scenes, it was not for modelling the whole strips. Moreover, the performance of sensor models was remarkably sensitive to different sets of unknowns. It was found that the orbit-based model using attitude biases as unknowns can be used to model SPOT image strips of 420 Km in length.

A Wavelet Approach to Broadcast Video Traffic Modeling (Wavelet 변환을 이용한 영상 트래픽 모델링)

  • In this paper, we propose a wavelet VQ approach to modeling VBR broadcast video traffic. The proposed method decomposes video traffic into two parts via wavelet transformation, and models each part separately. The first part, which is modeled by an AR(1) process, serves to capture the long-term trend of the traffic; the second part, classified via vector quantization, addresses the short-term behavior of the traffic. Compared with other VBR video models, our model has three advantages. First, it allows the separate modeling of long- and short-term behavior of the video traffic; second, it preserves the periodic coding structure in traffic data; and third, it provides an unified approach for the frameand slice-level traffic modeling. We demonstrate the validity of our model by statistical measurements and network performance simulation.

Performance Comparison between Neural Network and Genetic Programming Using Gas Furnace Data

  • This study describes design and development techniques of estimation models for process modeling. One case study is undertaken to design a model using standard gas furnace data. Neural networks (NN) and genetic programming (GP) are each employed to model the crucial relationships between input factors and output responses. In the case study, two models were generated by using 70% training data and evaluated by using 30% testing data for genetic programming and neural network modeling. The model performance was compared by using RMSE values, which were calculated based on the model outputs. The average RMSE for training and testing were 0.8925 (training) and 0.9951 (testing) for the NN model, and 0.707227 (training) and 0.673150 (testing) for the GP model, respectively. As concern the results, the NN model has a strong advantage in model training (using the all data for training), and the GP model appears to have an advantage in model testing (using the separated data for training and testing). The performance reproducibility of the GP model is good, so this approach appears suitable for modeling physical fabrication processes.

  • SMIL(Synchronized Multimedia integration Language) allows integrating a set of independent multimedia objects into a synchronized multimedia presentation. In this paper, I propose modeling rules, formal models, modeling function and an algorithm for SMIL documents using use case diagram and sequence diagram of UML(Unified Modeling Language), It will be used the use case diagram and collaboration diagram for object-oriented visualizing tool to describe the temporal behavior of the presentation. The main contribution of this paper is that developers of SMIL documents easily generate them using this rules and algorithm. And, the formal models and modeling functions provide an environment for processing object-oriented documents.

  • To succeed in ERP construction, the purpose of ERP setup must be completed. To accomplish this end, it is required to analysis business process completely and make a plan in detail. For ERP providers', they must support a characterized ERP construction methodology and lower the construction cost by improving an ERP package by making it easy to customize. But, because imported EHP products that are supplied currently are designed for the standard and the rationality, they have a limit to support custom processes of domestic companies. On the contrary, ERP products by domestic companies are unable to support a consistent methodology of constructing ERP system. This is a main reason why much time and costs are consumed than that of an original plan. For solving the problems, ERP packages should provide a consistent process modeling methodology and a modeling tool which can support this methodology. Furthermore, customizing cost must be lowered by implementing reusable components from the process models. This Paper describes a component-based ERP Package system which has peculiar modeling tools and development tools. We describe the modeling methodology and the business component definition of the ERP system. Finally, we describe its customizing process based on these process designs and business components.

Numerical Modeling of Long-Term Behavior of Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil Wall used in Bridge Abutment (보강토 교대 옹벽의 장기 거동에 대한 수치 모델링)

  • This paper presents the numerical modelling technique for modeling the time-dependent behavior of geosynthetic reinforced soil wall under a sustained load. The applicability of power law-based creep models for modeling the creep deformations of geogrid and reinforced soil was first examined. The modeling approach was then used to simulate the long-term performance of a geosynthetic reinforced soil wall used in a bridge abutment. The results indicated that the power law-based models can be effectively used for modelling the long term behavior of geosynthetic reinforced walls under sustained loading. In addition, it was shown that, when using creep deformation susceptible backfill soils, the abutment wall and the sill beam may experience deformations exceeding allowable limits. Practical implications of the findings from this study are discussed in great detail.
