This paper presents an effective hysteretic model for the prediction and evaluation of steel reinforced concrete member seismic performance. This model adopts the load-deformation relationship acquired from monotonic load tests and incorporates the double-pivot behavior of composite members subjected to cyclic loads. Deterioration in member stiffness was accounted in the analytical model. The composite member performance assessment control parameters were calibrated from the test results. Comparisons between the cyclic load test results and analytical model validated the proposed method's effectiveness.

This research is to identify an easy and effective method of teaching-learning plan. The teaching-learning plan is a blue_print applied for designing effective lessons. However, most of the teachers regard it as a difficult and inefficient job. This study proposed the concrete instructional model framework as a tool to develop the teaching-learning plan easily and effectively. The concrete instructional model framework will represent a decomposed instructional strategy applied for each step of the instructional model developed by educational researchers. This method is applied to develop a computer teaching-learning plan. Therefore, the proposed method will expand an easier teaching-learning plan. Furthermore, the proposed method develops a teaching-learning plan with fluent content in detail based on low-level instruction strategies applied in the concrete instruction model framework.
In this paper, a computational model for nonlinear crack damage analysis of concrete gravity dam-foundation boundary region subjected to earthquake loading is suggested. An enhanced model based on the Lee-Fenves plastic-damage model is used as the inelastic material model for a concrete dam structure and rock foundation. The suggested model is implemented numerically and used for computational earthquake simulation of Koyna dam, which was severly damaged from the strong earthquake in 1967. From the numerical result it is demonstrated that the suggested computational model can realistically represent crack initiation and propagation in the dam-foundation boundary region.

In this paper, a total strain-based hysteretic material model based on MCFT is proposed for non-linear finite element analysis of reinforced concrete structures. Although many concrete models have been proposed for simulating behavior of structures under cyclic loading conditions, accurate simulations remain challenging due to uncertainties in materials, pitfalls of crude assumptions of existing models, and limited understanding of failure mechanisms. The proposed model is equipped with a fully generalized hysteresis rule and is formulated for 2D plane stress non-linear finite element analysis. The proposed model has been formulated in a tangent stiffness-based finite element scheme so that it can be used for most general finite element analysis packages. Moreover, it eliminates the need to check that tensile stresses can be transmitted across a crack. The tension stiffening model is a function of the bar orientation and any orientation can be accommodated. The proposed model has been verified with a series of experimental results of 2D RC planar panels. This study also demonstrates how parameters of the proposed model associated with cyclic damage modeling influences the pinched cyclic shear behavior.
Concrete structures are generally cracked in flexural tension at working loads. Concrete beams with asymmetric section details and crack patterns exhibit different flexural rigidity depending upon the sense of the applied flexural moment. In this paper, three different models, having the same natural period, of such SDOF bilinear dynamical systems have been proposed. The Model-I and Model-II have constant damping coefficient, but the latter is characterized by two stiffness coefficients depending upon the sense of vibration amplitude. The Model-III, additionally, has two damping coefficients as well. In this paper, the dynamical response of Model-III to sinusoidal loading has been investigated and compared with that of Model-II studied earlier. It has been found that Model-III exhibits regular and irregular sub-harmonics, jump phenomena and strong sensitivity to initial conditions, forcing frequency, system period as well as the sense of peak sinusoidal force. The constant sustained load has been found to affect the natural period of the dynamical system. The predictions of Model-I have been compared with those of the approximate linear model adopted in present practice. The behaviour exhibited by different models of the SDOF cracked elastic concrete structures under working loads and the theoretical and practical implications of the approach followed have been critically evaluated.
In general, cracks significantly deteriorate the in-situ performance of concrete members and structures, especially in urban metro tunnels that have been embedded in saturated soft soils. The microcapsule self-healing method is a newly developed healing method for repairing cracked concrete. To investigate the optimal microcapsule parameters that will have the best healing effect in concrete, a 3D analytical probability healing model is proposed; it is based on the microcapsule self-healing method's healing mechanism, and its purpose is to predict the healing efficiency and healing probability of given cracks. The proposed model comprehensively considers the radius and the volume fraction of microcapsules, the expected healing efficiency, the parameters of cracks, the broken ratio and the healing probability. Furthermore, a simplified probability healing model is proposed to facilitate the calculation. Then, a Monte Carlo test is conducted to verify the proposed 3D analytical probability healing model. Finally, the influences of microcapsules' parameters on the healing efficiency and the healing probability of the microcapsule self-healing method are examined in light of the proposed probability model.

An analytical model is developed in this paper to predict the shear capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) columns with corroded transverse reinforcements. The shear strength model for corroded RC columns is proposed based on modifying the existing strut-and-tie model, which considers the deformational compatibility between truss and arch mechanisms. The contributions to the shear strength from both truss and arch mechanisms are incorporated in the proposed model. The effects of corrosion level of transverse reinforcements are considered in the proposed model through the minimum residual cross-sectional area of transverse reinforcements and the reduction of concrete compressive strength for the cover area. The shear strengths calculated from the developed model are compared with the experimental results from Vu's study (2017), which consisted of RC columns with corroded transverse reinforcements showing shear failure under the cyclic loading. The comparison results indicate satisfactory correlations. Parametric studies are conducted based on the developed shear strength model to explore the effects of column axial loading, aspect ratios, transverse reinforcements and the corrosion levels in transverse reinforcements to the shear strength of RC columns with corroded transverse reinforcements.

To predict autogenous shrinkage of concrete, unsaturated pore compensation factor could be calculated by experiments of autogenous shrinkage of cement paste on the assumption that the differences between degree of hydration and strain rate of autogenous shrinkage are unsaturated pore formation rate. Applying unsaturated pore compensation factor on modified Pickket model considering contribution factor and non-contribution factor to autogenous shrinkage of concrete, experimental data and existing model were compared. From the results modified Pickket model was verified to present similar tendency between Tazawa model and experimental data, but CEB-FIP model might be corrected because this model uses ultimate autogenous shrinkage underestimated and the same autogenous time function of concrete material properties considering only compressive strength.
In the previous study, direct inelastic strut-and-tie model (DISTM) was developed to perform inelastic design of reinforced concrete members by using linear analysis for their secant stiffness. In the present study, for convenience in design practice, the DISTM was further simplified so that inelastic design of reinforced concrete members can be performed by a run of linear analysis, without using iterative calculations. In the simplified direct inelastic strut-and-tie model (S-DISTM), a reinforced concrete member is idealized with compression strut of concrete and tension tie of reinforcing bars. For the strut and tie elements, elastic stiffness or secant stiffness is used according to the design strategy intended by engineer. To define the failure criteria of the strut and tie elements, concrete crushing and reinforcing bar fracture were considered. The proposed method was applied to inelastic design of various reinforced concrete members including deep beam, coupling beam, and shear wall. The design results were compared with the properties and the deformation capacities of the test specimens.
Slabs in buildings and bridge decks, which are restrained against lateral displacements at the edges, have ultimate strengths far in excess of those predicted by analytical methods based on yield line theory. The increase in strength has been attributed to membrane action, which is due to the in-plane forces developed at the supports. The benefits of compressive membrane action are usually not taken into account in currently available design methods developed based on plastic flow theories assuming concrete to be a rigid-plastic material. By extending the existing knowledge of compressive membrane action, it is possible to design slabs in building and bridge structures economically with less than normal reinforcement. Recent research on building and bridge structures reflects the importance of membrane action in design. This paper describes the finite element modelling of membrane action in reinforced concrete slabs through optimisation of a simple concrete model. Through a series of parametric studies using the simple concrete model in the finite element simulation of eight fully clamped concrete slabs with significant membrane action, a set of fixed numerical model parameter values is identified and computational conditions established, which would guarantee reliable strength prediction of arbitrary slabs. The reliability of the identified values to simulate membrane action (for prediction purposes) is further verified by the direct simulation of 42 other slabs, which gave an average value of 0.9698 for the ratio of experimental to predicted strengths and a standard deviation of 0.117. A 'deflection factor' is also established for the slabs, relating the predicted peak deflection to experimental values, which, (for the same level of fixity at the supports), can be used for accurate displacement determination. The proposed optimised concrete model and finite element procedure can be used as a tool to simulate membrane action in slabs in building and bridge structures having variable support and loading conditions including fire. Other practical applications of the developed finite element procedure and design process are also discussed.
