PURPOSES : This study is to construct the regression models of drainage asphalt concrete specimens and to provide the appropriate coefficients of hydraulic conductivity prediction models. METHODS: In terms of easy calculation of the hydraulic conductivity from porosity of asphalt concrete pavement, the estimation model of hydraulic conductivity was proposed using regression analysis. 10 specimens of drainage asphalt concrete pavement were made for measurement of the hydraulic conductivity. Hydraulic conductivity model proposed in this study was calculated by empirical model based on porosity and the grain size. In this study, it shows the compared results from permeability measured test and empirical equation, and the suitability of proposed model, using regression analysis. RESULTS: As the result of the regression analysis, the hydraulic conductivity calculated from the proposal model was similar to that resulted from permeability measured test. Also result of RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) analysis, a proposed regression model is resulted in more accurate model. CONCLUSIONS: The proposed model can be used in case of estimating the hydraulic conductivity at drainage asphalt concrete pavements in fields.

This study investigates the structural strength analysis due to rib thickness of lower arm. At structural analysis, model 1 has the most deformation by comparing three models. As most equivalent stress is shown at the part connected with wheel knuckle, the strength becomes weaker in cases of three models. At fatigue analysis, model 1 becomes most unstabilized among three models. Model 3 has most fatigue life and the next model is model 2. The range of maximum harmonic response frequencies becomes 140 to 175Hz in cases of three models. Because the critical frequency at model 3 becomes highest among three models but the stress exceeds yield stress, model 3 becomes most unstabilized at vibration durability. As models 1 and 2 has less than yield stress, these models become stabilized. Model 2 becomes most favorable by comparing three models at structural, fatigue and vibration analyses. This study result can be effectively utilized with the design of lower arm by investigating prevention against damage and its strength durability.

Cracked component analysis is needed for structural integrity analysis under seismic loading. Under large amplitude cyclic loading conditions, the change in material properties can be complex, depending on the magnitude of plastic strain. Therefore the cracked component analysis under cyclic loading should consider appropriate cyclic hardening model. This study introduces a procedure for determining an appropriate cyclic hardening model for cracked component analysis. The test material was nuclear-grade TP316 stainless steel. The material cyclic hardening was simulated using the Chaboche combined hardening model. The kinematic hardening model was determined from standard tensile test to cover the high and wide strain range. The isotropic hardening model was determined by simulating C(T) test under cyclic loading using ABAQUS debonding analysis. The suitability of the material hardening model was verified by comparing load-displacement curves of cyclic C(T) tests under different load ratios.
Recently data mining techniques have been used for analysis and classification of data related to industrial accidents. The main objective of this study is to compare algorithms for data analysis of industrial accidents and this paper provides an optimal predicting model of 5 kinds of algorithms including CHAID, CART, C4.5, LR (Logistic Regression) and NN (Neural Network) with ROC chart, lift chart and response threshold. Also, this paper provides an approximation model for an optimal predicting model based on NN. The approximation model provided in this study can be utilized for easy interpretation of data analysis using NN. This study uses selected ten independent variables to group injured people according to a dependent variable in a way that reduces variation. In order to find an optimal predicting model among 5 algorithms, a retrospective analysis was performed in 67,278 subjects. The sample for this work chosen from data related to industrial accidents during three years ($2002\;{\sim}\;2004$) in korea. According to the result analysis, NN has excellent performance for data analysis and classification of industrial accidents.

This paper firstly briefly describes developed numerical model for both static and dynamic analysis of planar structures made of concrete, steel and masonry. The model can simulate the main nonlinearity of such individual and composite structures. The model is quite simple and based on a small number of material parameters. After that, three real composite concrete-steel-masonry bridges were analyzed using the presented numerical model. It was concluded that the model can be useful in practical analysis of composite bridges. However, future verifications of the presented numerical model are desirable.

Generally, structures are analyzed as continuum. However, sometimes it is more efficient to analyze structure as a discrete model rather than as a continuum model in case of the structure has complex shape or loading condition. This study, therefore, suggests an improved analysis discrete model, named Equivalent Truss Model (further as "ETM"), which can obtain similar results with analyzing continuums analysis. ETM adopts a lattice truss to compose the members of the model, and analyses the structures. As a consequence, the ETM produced the identical outcome with the continuums analysis in section force of different structures and loading conditions. Similar results have been shown in internal stress analysis as well. Make use of that ETM is discrete, fractural path of beam was analyzed by ETM and the result was reasonable.

In this study, a series of two-dimensional model test and numerical analysis was carried out to investigate the pile movement due to tunnelling in soft ground. The model test consists of 21 cases according to locations of the pile tip over the centre position of model tunnel. To identify both the pile and ground movements a close-range photogrammetric technique was adopted in the model test. The results from the model test were compared to the two-dimensional finite element analysis using the CRISP program. It was found that the rotation point on the pile was significantly affected by factors such as the offset distance from the model tunnel and the volume loss that occurred during the tunnelling operation.

In the global ship structure and vibration analysis, the FE(finite element) analysis model is required in the early design stage before the 3D CAD model is defined. And the analysis model generation process is a time-consuming job and takes much more time than the engineering work itself. In particular, ship structure has too many associated structural members such as stringers, stiffness and girders etc. These structural members should be satisfied as the constraints in analysis modeling. Therefore it is necessary to support generation of analysis model with satisfying these constraints as an automatic manner. For the effective support of the global ship analysis modeling, a method to generate analysis model using initial design information within ship design process, that hull form offset data and compartment data, is developed. In order to easily handle initial design information and FE model information, flexible data structure is proposed. An automatic quadrilateral mesh generation algorithm using initial design information to satisfy the constraints imposed on the ship structure is also proposed. The proposed data structure and mesh generation algorithm are applied for the various type of vessels for the usability test. Through this test, we have verified the stability and usefulness of this system including mesh generation algorithm.
Seismic fragility analysis is a probabilistic decision-making framework which is widely implemented for evaluating vulnerability of a building under earthquake loading. It requires ingredient named probabilistic model and commonly developed using statistics requiring collecting data in large quantities. Preparation of such a data-base is often costly and time-consuming. Therefore, in this paper, by developing generic seismic drift demand model for regular-multi-story steel moment resisting frames is tried to present a novel application of the probabilistic decision-making analysis to practical purposes. To this end, a demand model which is a linear function of intensity measure in logarithmic space is developed to predict overall maximum inter-story drift. Next, the model is coupled with a set of regression-based equations which are capable of directly estimating unknown statistical characteristics of the model parameters. To explicitly address uncertainties arise from randomness and lack of knowledge, the Bayesian regression inference is employed, when these relations are developed. The developed demand model is then employed in a Seismic Fragility Analysis (SFA) for two designed building. The accuracy of the results is also assessed by comparison with the results directly obtained from Incremental Dynamic analysis.
In accident analysis, it is essential to understand the causal pathways of the accident. Although numerous accident models have been developed to help analysts understand how and why an accident occurs, most of them do not include all elements related to the accident in various fields. Thus analysis of human error accidents in railway operations using these existing models may be possible, but inevitably incomplete. For a more thorough analysis of the accidents in railway operations, a more exhaustive model of accident causation is needed. This paper briefly reviews four recent accident causation models, and proposes a new model that overcomes the limitations of the existing models for the analysis of human error accidents in railway operations. In addition, the usefulness and comprehensiveness of the proposed model is briefly tested by explaining 12 railway accident cases with the model. The proposed accident causation model is expected to improve understanding of how and why an accident/incident occurs, and help prevent analysts from missing any important aspect of human error accidents in railway operations
