The interest of this article lies in the proposition of using bionic method to develop a new sound absorber and analyze the efficient of this absorber in a ski cabin. Inspired by the coupling absorption structure of the skin and feather of a typical silent flying bird - owl, a bionic coupling multi-layer structure model is developed, which is composed of a micro-silt plate, porous fibrous material and a flexible micro-perforated membrane backed with airspace. The finite element simulation method with ACTRAN is applied to calculate the acoustic performance of the multi-layer absorber, the vibration modal of the ski cabin and the sound pressure level (SPL) near the skier's ears before and after pasting the absorber at the flour carpet and seats in the cabin. As expected, the SPL near the ears was significantly reduced after adding sound-absorbing material. Among them, the model 2 and model 5 showed the best sound absorption efficiency and the SPL almost reduced 5 dB. Moreover, it was most effctive for the SPL reduction with full admittance configuration at both the carpet and the seats, and the carpet contribution seems to be predominant.
This paper describes the acoustic analysis of mid duty truck. The focus of the analysis is on structure borne engine noise with major contributions of 2nd order. It has been previously recognized that the noise contribution of each transfer path of structure borne noise can be varied with the charateristics of each mounts and vibro acoustic sensitivity of car body. The structure of car body will be split up into three major sub components, which are modeled separately, the engine, the frame and the cab. The acoustic performance is evaluated on three levels: engine to frame transfer, frame to cab transfer, and panel contribution from cab to driver. In order to perform these analyses, analytical models are created for the engine, frame, cab and acoustic cavity. The models are linked through a coupled fluid structure calculation, and through FRF Based Substructuring for the structural couplings. Based on the structural coupling calculations, a transfer path analysis is performed to identify the most important transfer paths. These paths are then the focussing points for applying modifications to the structure or the mount system. Finally, a number of modification are proposed and their effect is quantified.
For controlling the vibration of specific building structure with large span, a practical method for the design of MTMD was developed according to the characteristics of structures subjected to wind loads. Based on the model of analyzing wind-induced response of large-span structure with MTMD, the optimization method of multiple tuned mass dampers for large-span roof structures subjected to wind loads was established, in which the applicable requirements for strength and fatigue life of TMD spring were considered. According to the method, the controlled modes and placements of TMDs in MTMD were determined through the quantitative analysis on modal contribution to the wind-induced dynamic response of structure. To explore the characteristics of MTMD, the parametric analysis on the effects of mass ratio, damping ratio, central tuning frequency ratio and frequency range of MTMD, was performed in the study. Then the parameters of MTMD were optimized through genetic algorithm and the optimized MTMD showed good dynamic characteristics. The robustness of the optimized MTMD was also investigated.

Caliper intergrated Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is an automatic parking brake system, attached to rear caliper. Because EPB uses luxury vehicles recently, the drivers of vehicles are sensitive to the EPB noise. EPB is operated by the motor and gear, so noise is generated by motor and gear. In order to reduce noise, One of EPB manufacturers uses helical gear and changes the shape of EPB housing. But these methods are not optimized for reduction of interior noise. There are many noise transfer paths into vehicle interior and it is difficult to identify the noise sources. Therefore, in this study, we performed contribution analysis and modal testing in the vehicle system. It is possible to distinguish between air-borne noise and structure-borne noise in the vehicle interior noise by comparing interior noise peak with resonance mode map.

Most of the studies use model order reduction for low frequency (LF) response analysis due to their high computational efficiency. In LF response analysis, one of model order reduction, algebraic substructuring (AS) retains all LF modes when using the modal superposition. However, in mid-frequency (MF) response analysis, the LF modes make very little contribution and also increase the number of retained modes, which leads to loss of computational efficiency. Therefore, MF response analysis should consider low truncated modes to improve the computational efficiency. The current work is focused on improving the computational efficiency using a AS and a frequency sweep algorithm. Finite element simulation for a MEMS resonator array showed that the performance of the presented method is superior to a conventional method.
Prior to modern seismic provisions, several bridges were not designed for seismic actions in moderate seismic areas. Precast multi-girder and slab bridges are typical highway overpass structures; they have a significant contribution to national bridge stocks. Since the seismic behavior is questionable, a preliminary parametric study is conducted to determine critical configurations and components. The results indicate that the behavior of the abutments, backfill soil, superstructure and foundation is normally satisfactory; however, the superstructure-abutment joints are critical for both single- and multi-span bridges, while the piers are also critical for longer multi-span configurations. The parametric results provide a solid basis both for detailed seismic assessment and development of design concepts of newly built structures in moderate seismic zones.

Noise reduction has become a major issue of the manufacturing industry. This paper describes the reduction of noise and vibration of rotary compressors. Empirical design for the present strap of the accumulator has been considered to be sufficient for the constraint of the accumulator resonance modes without thorough study. Recently, however, some researchers found out that the accumulator contributes considerably to the sound propagation. In this paper, the contribution of accumulator to the noise propagation is investigated through sound measuring experiments by checking the directivity of the noise. And, experimental modal analysis results show that frequencies of some resonance modes of the accumulator coincide with the highest peaks on sound spectrum. To demonstrate the reason for those resonance modes, a finite element analysis is conducted. Normal mode analysis of the finite element model of the rotary compressor shows the mechanism of the accumulator resonance modes.

Looking back the history of formal treatment of linguistics, we cannot disregard the contribution of possible world semantics. Intensional logic of Montague semantics, DRT (Discourse Representation Theory), mental space, and situation theory are closely related to or compared with the notion of possible world. All these theories have commonly clarified the structure of belief context or uncertain knowledge, employing hypothesized worlds. In this talk, I firstly brief the pedigree of these theories. Next, I will introduce the recent development of modal logic for the representation of (i) knowledge and belief and (ii) time, in which belief modality is precisely discussed together with the accessibility among possible worlds. I will refer to BDI (belief-desire-intention) logic, CTL (computational tree logic), and sphere-based model in belief revision. Finally, I will discuss how these theories could be applied to the further development of analyses of natural language.

Structural analysis of automotive engine cover under vibration excitation is performed by finite element analysis (FEA) in order to identify the critical area of the structure. Assembly load due to the tightening of the bolts as well as the vibration excitation were considered to describe the actual loading condition. Natural frequencies of the system were extracted considering the damping effect of the structure. Dynamic analysis was performed based on the extracted natural frequency of the system. Experimental modal analysis (EMA) and measurement of strains were performed to verify the results of the analysis. Analysis results correlated closely with the experimental results. Analysis and experiments showed that contribution of the assembly load should not be ignored to predict the structural failure of the engine cover.

In this study floor impact noise and structure acceleration response of bare concrete slabs were predicted by using Finite Element Analysis(FEA). Prediction results were compared with experimental results to prove the accuracy of numerical model. Acoustic absorption were addressed by using panel impedance coefficients with frequency characteristics and structural modal damping of numerical model were applied by modal testing results and analysis of prediction and test results. By using frequency response function, the floor acceleration and acoustic pressure responses for various impact sources were calculated at the same time. In the FEA, the natural frequencies and the shapes of vibration and acoustic modes can be estimated through the eigen-value analysis, and it can be visually seen the vibration and sound pressure field and the contribution of major modes.
