Physical importance of cutting temperatures has long been recognized. Cutting temperatures have strongly influenced both the tool life and the metallurgical state of machined surfaces. Temperatures in drilling processes are particularly important, because chips remain in contact with the tool for a relatively long time in a hole. Tool temperatures tend to be higher in drilling processes than in other in machining processes. This paper concerns with modeling of thermal behaviors in drilling processes as well as estimation of the cutting temperature distribution based on remote temperature measurements. One- and two-dimensional estimation problems are proposed to analyze drilling temperatures. The proposed thermal models are compared with solutions of finite element methods. Observer algorithms are developed to solve inverse heat conduction problems. In order to apply the estimation of cutting temperatures, approximation methods are proposed by using the solution of the finite element method. In two-dimensional analysis, a moving heat source according to feedrate of the drilling process is regarded as a fixed heat source with respect to the drilling location. Simulation results confirm the application of the proposed methods.
This study is focused on the dynamic response of curved bridge when the rubber tired AGT vehicles is running with alternative articulations. For the analytic approach, there is necessary for the three dimensional vehicle model with 11 degree of freedom and the three dimensional curved bridge model by means of finite element method. It can be described by conventional Lagrangian formula with respect to the dynamic interactions between vehicles and its met bridge. The formula is implemented by Fortran language on the simulation program designated BADIA II(Bridge-AGT Dynamic Interaction Analysis II). The solutions of the formula are derived by Newmark- ${\beta}$ method. The BADIA II is for the dynamic interactions between vehicle and curved bridge in terms of the roughness of running surface and guide rail. The applicability of the BADIA II is verified in terms of displacement and modal frequency. This study is described that the dynamic interactive behaviors between the rubber tired AGT vehicle and curved bridge in terms of the radius of curvatures of curved bridge, vehicle articulations, vehicle speeds, vehicle weights, flatness of running surface and roughness of guide rail using BADIA II.

This paper conducts the research on the variation in the characteristics of the resonance and impedance of the metallic parallel plates due to the replacement of the normal dielectric substrate by the metamaterial. The ENG(${\epsilon}<0$), MNG(${\mu}<0}$) and DNG(${\epsilon},{\mu}<0$) types of metamaterial as well as the DPS(Double Positive) material are taken into consideration a full-wave modal analysis method known for accurate computation, as the SRR-kind of Lorentz model for permittivity and metal wire-periodic array-kind of Drude model for permeability, and the behaviors of parallel plates' resonance mode and impedance are observed. Based upon the observation, the design guidelines for the substrate can be addressed regrading how to suppress the parallel plates' spurious resonance modes that degrade the quality of the electronic equipment.

A growing need has developed in the United States to obtain more specific knowledge on the structural integrity of infrastructure due to aging service lives, heavier and more frequent loading conditions, and durability issues. This need has spurred extensive research in the area of structural health monitoring over the past few decades. Several structural health monitoring techniques have been developed that are capable of locating damage in structures using modal strain energy of mode shapes. Typically in the past, bending strain energy has been used in these methods since it is a dominant vibrational mode in many structures and is easily measured. Additionally, there may be cases, such as pipes, shafts, or certain bridges, where structures exhibit significant torsional behavior as well. In this research, torsional strain energy is used to locate damage. The damage index method is used on two numerical models; a cantilevered steel pipe and a simply-supported steel plate girder bridge. Torsion damage indices are compared to bending damage indices to assess their effectiveness at locating damage. The torsion strain energy method is capable of accurately locating damage and providing additional valuable information to both of the structures' behaviors.
Steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) have been shown to be efficient lateral force-resisting systems, which are increasingly used in new and retrofit construction. These structural systems are designed with either stiffened and stocky or unstiffened and slender web plates based on disparate structural and economical considerations. Based on some limited reported studies, on the other hand, employment of low yield point (LYP) steel infill plates with extremely low yield strength, and high ductility as well as elongation properties is found to facilitate the design and improve the structural behavior and seismic performance of the SPSW systems. On this basis, this paper reports system-level investigations on the seismic response assessment of multi-story SPSW frames under the action of earthquake ground motions. The effectiveness of the strip model in representing the behaviors of SPSWs with different buckling and yielding properties is primarily verified. Subsequently, the structural and seismic performances of several code-designed and retrofitted SPSW frames with conventional and LYP steel infill plates are investigated through detailed modal and nonlinear time-history analyses. Evaluation of various seismic response parameters including drift, acceleration, base shear and moment, column axial load, and web-plate ductility demands, demonstrates the capabilities of SPSW systems in improving the seismic performance of structures and reveals various advantages of use of LYP steel material in seismic design and retrofit of SPSW systems, in particular, application of LYP steel infill plates of double thickness in seismic retrofit of conventional steel and code-designed SPSW frames.
The objective of this study is to analyze the travel behaviors of customers accessing to three different types of shopping facilities - traditional markets(TM), hyper markets(HM), and super supermarkets(SSM) - and also to find out the most desirable location for each type of shopping facilities that encourage sustainable transportation and smart urban growth. It also demonstrates what mode has the highest percentage of modal split and what is the access distance for public transport mode by each shopping facilities (SSM: 84.5% walking and 667m, TM: 20.1% bus and 1.6km, HM : 46.2% private car and 4.2km). Among TM, HM, and SSM, statistically significant differences are found in terms of mode choices and other associated travel behaviors. The research findings are expected to contribute to finding future urban planning and transportation solutions that promote walking and public transit uses for shopping trips and thus help support green transportation and sustainable urban growth.

A method to optimize the cost of R/C frames and an algorithm of the optimal limit state design for R/C frames subjected to dynamic loads are presented. The modal superposition method was used to find the dynamic responses of the frames. Each member of R/C frame is made up of more than two elements and the stiffness matrix and consistent mass matrix of three d.o.f in the node of each element was used to include axial, shear and flexural effects. The objective function to be minimized formulated the cost of materials, steel and concrete, and optimised to satisfy the behaviors of R/C frame and each constraint imposed by the limit state requirements. Both objective function and each constraint are derived in terms of design variables which include the effective depth, beam width, compression and tension steel area, and column shear steel area. A few applications are presented which demonstrate the feasibility, the validity and efficiency of the algorithm for automated optimum design of R/C frames where dynamic behavior is to be considered.
In this study, the trip characteristics of workers in the city are systematically analyzed. The trip behaviors and socioeconomic characteristics of workers are analyzed using Person Trip Survey Data of 1988 and 1992 in Taegu Metropolitan area. With the results of behavioral analyses, the daily travel pattern of workers is shown as one tour contained two trips and it is relatively simple and stable. Also the rate using the same mode in a day is Presented as high ratio. So, it can be explained that the choice of worker\`s first trip is fixed his/her travel mode for his/her daily travel mode. Based on these analyses, the mode choice model for workers is developed by applying the Multi-nominal Logit Model with the choice set of bus, taxi, and car. The explanatory variables of this model include sex, age, auto, travel time, and cost. Empirical tests of the model show encouraging results. After that, the temporal transferability of the model is examined by the Pairwise t-test and five indexes far the model of 1988 and 1992. The results of examination are satisfied with each significance level of the explanatory variables and five indexes. Therefore. it can be concluded that the temporal transferability of this model developed in this study is resonable.

Rapid advance in information technology requires high performance devices with compact size. Integrated multi-layer electronic element with different functions enables those compact devices to possess various performances and powerful capabilities. In mass production, the multi-layer electronic element is manufactured as a bulk type with a large number of parts for productivity. However, this may cause the electronic part to be damaged in the cutting process of the bulk elements to separate into each part. Therefore the cutting performance of multi-layer element bulk is playing an important role in the view of production efficiency. This study focuses on the cutting characteristics of multi-layer electronic elements. In order to increase the efficiency, the vibration cutting method was applied to the blade cutting machine. Flexure hinge structure, which is an physical amplifier of increasing displacement, was attached to the vibration cutting device for machining efficiency. The behaviors of flexure hinge were modeled with Lagrange equation and simulated with finite element method (FEM). Performance of hinge structure was verified by experimental modal analysis (EMA) for hinge structure to be tuned to the specific mode of vibrations. Cutting experiments of multi-layer elements were conducted with the proposed vibrating cutting module, and the characteristics was analyzed.

This article describes the dynamic behaviors of a rubber tired gantry crane(RTGC) under typical load conditions which are used in the design of gantry cranes. In order to investigate the dynamic characteristics of an RTGC, we developed a finite element crane model for its huge structure. The finite element model was validated with the modal test results, e.g., natural frequencies and normal modes. And other components of RTGC were converted into detailed 3D CAD models and finally transformed to rigid body models in a dynamic simulation program ADAMS. The load conditions considered in this paper were a normal operating condition(OP1) and container hanging condition with no external loads. As a result, we could find there was large influence of crane's vibration owing to its structural stiffness and deformation. And the vibration of crane could made the movements of RTGC, which occurs crash or malfunction of crane works.
