  • This study investigates two basic operations of mobility management of PCNs (Personal Communication Networks), i.e., the location update and the paging of the mobile terminal. From the realistic consideration that a user either moves through several cells consecutively or stays in a cell with long time, we model the mobility pattern by introducing two types of CRT (Cell Residence Time). Mobility patterns of the mobile terminal are classified Into various ways by using the ratios of two types of CRT. Cost analysis is performed for distance-based and movement-based location update schemes combined with blanket polling paging and selective paging scheme. It is demonstrated that in a certain condition of mobility pattern and call arrival pattern, 2-state CRT model produces different optimal threshold and so, is more effective than IID ( Independently-Identically-Distributed) CRT model. An analytical model for the new CRT model is compact and easily extendable to the other location update schemes.

  • In the Reporting Cell Location Management (RCLM) system, a subset of cells in the network is designated as the reporting cells. Each mobile terminal performs location update only when it enters one of these reporting cells. When a call arrives, the paging is confined to the reporting cell the user last reported and the neighboring bounded non-reporting cells. Frequent location update may result in degradation of quality of service due to interference. Miss on the location of a mobile terminal will necessitate a search operation on the network when a call comes in. We must decide the number of reporting cells and which cell should be reporting cell to balance the registration (location update) and search (paging) operations to minimize the cost of RCLM system. This paper proposes a simulated annealing (SA) for optimization of RCLM system.

  • H.323 proposes to use Mobile IP and H.323 ad hoc conference signaling to provide Handoff function to an H.323 mobile terminal. But the H.323 ad hoc conference signaling has a drawback. It requires an H.323 terminal to do a complex conference signaling which takes a longer signaling time. In this paper, we propose an GK architecture that provides Handoff function effectively using 3$^{rd}$ P'||'||'||'||'||'&'||'||'||'||'||'R(Third party initiated Pause and Rerouting) signaling which are done through H.245 logical channel. The GK which is implementing 3$^{rd}$ P'||'||'||'||'||'&'||'||'||'||'||'R signaling only requires an H.323 endpoint to do the H.323 basic signaling in reestablishing media channel and gives the faster Handoff signaling. To do this, our GK has derived H.245 control channel using tunneling f3r all H.323 calls including the fast connect calls which enable terminals communicate each other if they doesn't have H.245 control channel .municate each other if they doesn't have H.245 control channel .

본 논문에서는 모바일 환경 하에서 원격지 터미널에 접속할 수 있는 MVTP(Mobile Virtual Terminal Protocol)을 구현하였다.

  • Signal-to-interference ratio (SIR)-based dynamic code allocation method to be rioritized for handoff call is proposed and evaluated in a direct sequence-code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) cellular systm. Proposed method allocates a code to a mobile terminal according to the restidual capacity computed by SIR in the base station. We consider the voice activity detection to increase the system capacity. We evaluate the performance of proposed method with computer simulation. And the handoff decision function that controls handoff of mobile terminal is interodcued. The proposed method provide much improvement in the forced termination probability and handoff call fail probability.

  • The directional MAC (DMAC) protocol improves the spatial reuse, but directional packets on the control channel cause the deafness problem. In this paper, we propose a tone dual-channel DMAC protocol for mobile ad-hoc networks. In the proposed MAC protocol, the use of omnidirectional transmissions using an omnidirectional out-of-band tone solves the deafness problem and decrease packet collisions on the control channel. The use of an omnidirectional out-of-band tone also mitigates the hidden terminal problem. We use the negative CTS (NCTS) mechanism to solve the exposed terminal problem. The throughput performance of the proposed MAC protocol is confirmed by simulations using the Qualnet simulator.

  • In this paper, we propose a dual-band multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with high isolation for WLAN applications (2.45 GHz and 5.2 GHz). The proposed antenna is composed of a mobile communication terminal board, eight radiators, a coaxial feed line, and slots for isolation. The measured -10 dB impedance bandwidths are 10.1% (2.35 GHz to 2.6 GHz) and 3.85% (5.1 GHz to 5.3 GHz) at each frequency band. The proposed four-element MIMO antenna has an isolation of better than 35 dB at 2.45 GHz and 45 dB at 5.2 GHz between each element. The antenna gain is 3.2 dBi at 2.45 GHz and 4.2 dBi at 5.2 GHz.

The data collection system (DCS) is the one of its payloads. The DCS is a data relay system used for transmission from ground-based sensors through satellite to receiving station. This is one of the important methods collecting global data from the remote locations. In this paper, the DCS on the STSAT-1 will be introduced and the development of the mobile terminal (MT) will be reported.

  • To gain information on retrotransposons in the genome of Paragonimus westermani, PCR was carried out with degenerate primers, specific to protease and reverse transcriptase (rt) genes of long-terminal-repeat (LTR) retrotransposons. The PCR products were cloned and sequenced, after which 12 different retrotransposon-related sequences were isolated from the trematode genome. These showed various degrees of identity to the polyprotein of divergent retrotransposon families. A phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that these sequences could be classified into three different families of LTR retrotransposons, namely, Xena, Bel, and Gypsy families. Of these, two mRNA transcripts were detected by reverse transcriptase-PCR, showing that these two elements preserved their mobile activities. The genomic distributions of these two sequences were found to be highly repetitive. These results suggest that there are diverse retrotransposons including the ancient Xena family in the genome of P. westermani, which may have been involved in the evolution of the host genome.
