  • The Korean mobile telecommunication service market is faced with a tremendous competitive period, in which the market is entering into the maturity stage with launching of the 3rd generation service and with introduction of mobile number portability. In general, it is more important to sustain the old customers than to attracting new customers, as the life cycle of an industry is entering the maturity stage in which the growth rate of new customers is decreasing gradually or becoming stagnant. Thus, mobile telecommunication business has to seek a way to maintain the existing customers instead of promoting new customers. So this study investigates whether the service quality of mobile telecommunication could have effects on the switching barrier of the industry. In order to test the hypothesis on the effects of service quality of mobile telecommunication in Korea on switching barrier, this study collected the questionnaire response data of students including middle and high school students and undergraduates, who are regarded as the major customers in that mobile telecommunication industry.

  • A framework for structural health monitoring (SHM) systems is presented utilizing a recent 3.5 generation mobile telecommunication technology, HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access). It may be effectively applied to monitoring bridges, cut-slopes, and other facilities located in rural areas where the conventional Internet service is not readily available, since HSDPA is currently commercialized in 86 countries to make the Internet access possible in anywhere the mobile phone service is available. The proposed SHM framework is also incorporating remote desktop software to have remote control/operation of the SHM systems. The feasibility of the proposed framework has been demonstrated by field tests on a highway bridge in operation. One can expect that fast advances in the mobile telecommunication technology will further enhance the performance of the SHM network using the proposed framework for bridges and other facilities located in remote areas without the conventional wired Internet service.

  • Having information is most important at the present age. Internet is main source of obtaining information and mobile telecommunication let people communicate each other without any time and space limitation. Recently, advanced technology in telecommunication makes two-way service possible. So, the mobile internet service combined internet with mobile telecommunication is widely and rapidly promoted. Therefore user can transmit and receive a lot of information without time and space restriction using various application technologies. This paper deals with machinery that makes human do office work conveniently in vehicle using mobile internet service. Namely, it tries to design mobile internet machinery combining of wireless payment, GPS module, mobile internet, and mobile office etc. And that can transmit and receive e-mail or documents etc. This machinery has various objects, and design process has complexity. To reduce trial error and processing complexity, Axiomatic Design Method is used to design the machinery.

  • In this study, the conceptual model which can integrate the social process and technological teaming in technological innovation is developed and applied to the analysis of the cases on the innovation of Korean mobile telecommunication industry. Korean mobile telecommunication Industry has two peculiar characteristics. First, there have been rapid technological loaming and catching-up processes in Korean mobile telecommunication which have never been in other newly industrializing countries. Second, CDMA is the only multiple access mode which has been used in cellular phone service. It is the purpose of this study to analyse how these characteristics have been emerged during past ten years based on the suggested model integrating the social process of technology selection and technological learning.

Until now, many researches had tested whether the customer satisfaction and loyalty were the core factors of sustaining customers or not. Also service quality and switching cost were given a remarkable attention for their possibility of exogenous factors, which could exercise effects to customer satisfaction and loyalty. In the same context, mobile telecommunication business has to seek a way to maintain the existing customers instead of promoting new customers. So this study investigates whether the service quality and switching barrier of mobile telecommunication could have effects on the customer satisfaction and loyalty, which are recognized as an efficient means to sustain the current customers. In order to test the hypothesis on the effects of service quality and switching barrier of mobile telecommunication to customer satisfaction and loyalty in Korean telecommunication industry, this study collected the questionnaire response data of students including middle and high school students and undergraduates, who are regarded as the major customers in that mobile telecommunication industry.

  • The mobile telecommunication service industry plays major role of the realization to the perfect information society in the 21st century and has a great influence in society and culture. The government has enticed the mobile company to keep up to make the mobile service fee low. In this situation, this paper estimates consumer surplus and price elasticity with on-line survey data from the consumer of mobile service. The total estimated consumer surplus of the market is reached to 6.43trillion won. The consumer surplus from SKT is estimated to 4.98trillion won and 1.66trillion won and 0.67trillion won was made by KTF and LGT respectively. The result also shows that consumer surplus is expected to be increased by the increase of the mobile service demand and the sales.

  • In Korea, the mobile telecommunication service market is expanding rapidly and becoming more competitive. For service providers in such a dynamic environment, it is very important to accurately forecast demand including market potential in order to work out marketing strategies. In this paper, we suggest a general approach to forecast the market potential using a multinomial logit model, which is applied to individual-level market survey data. Then we develop a dynamic market potential model that can adapt to changes in the external environment without requiring further market survey. The proposed model is applied to the mobile telecommunication service market in Korea.

  • In this paper, we estimate consumers' preferences for the key attributes of the future mobile telecommunication terminal using conjoint analysis. For statistical model, we estimate the mixed legit model which can reflect the heterogeneity of consumers' preferences, using the Bayesian approach with Gibbs sampling. The results show that there are large variations in consumers' preferences for the attributes of the future mobile telecommunication terminal, which justifies our using of mixed logit model. Also, the results show that most consumers prefer the medium size display and keyboard as input equipment. Additionally, far from general prediction, the results show that many consumers are indifferent to whether the future mobile telecommunication terminal is able to provide high quality internet service or not, and to operate many application programs and programs originally designed for PC. From those results, we can obtain some important implications for the R&D strategies. Additionally, the results on the heterogeneity of consumers' preferences reveal that it is possible that the complete device convergence may not happen.
