Sink-Initiated Geographic Multicasting Protocol for Mobile Sinks in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 망에서 이동 싱크를 위한 위치기반 멀티캐스팅 프로토콜)

  • In this paper, we propose a SInk-initiated geographic Multicast (SIM) protocol to reduce frequent location updates from mobile sinks to a source and to achieve fast multicast tree construction and data delivery. The proposed protocol allows sinks to construct their own data delivery paths to a source node and a multicast tree to be atomically constructed by merging the paths. Then, the source forwards data to the destinations down the multicast tree. This paper also propose a round-based virtual infrastructure with a radial shape for increasing the merging probability of data delivery paths and reducing reconstruction ratio of the multicast tree due to mobility of sinks. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol is superior to previous SOurce-initiated geographic Multicast (SOM) protocols in term of average data delivery delay and average energy consumption.

  • Robots have been used in many fields due to its performance improvement and variety of its functionality, to the extent which robots can replace human tasks. Individual feature and better performance of robots are expected and required to be created. As their performances and functions have increased, systems have gotten more complicated. Multi mobile robots can perform complex tasks with simple robot system and algorithm. But multi mobile robots face much more complex driving problem than singular driving. To solve the problem, in this study, driving algorithm based on the energy method is applied to the individual robot in a group. This makes a cluster be in a formation automatically and suggests a cluster the automatic driving method so that they stably arrive at the target. The energy method mentioned above is applying attractive force and repulsive force to a special target, other robots or obstacles. This creates the potential energy, and the robot is controlled to drive in the direction of decreasing energy, which basically satisfies lyapunov function. Through this method, a cluster robot is able to create a formation and stably arrives at its target.

A Large-scale Multi-track Mobile Data Collection Mechanism for Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Recent researches reveal that great benefit can be achieved for data gathering in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) by employing mobile data collectors. In order to balance the energy consumption at sensor nodes and prolong the network lifetime, a multi-track large-scale mobile data collection mechanism (MTDCM) is proposed in this paper. MTDCM is composed of two phases: the Energy-balance Phase and the Data Collection Phase. In this mechanism, the energy-balance trajectories, the sleep-wakeup strategy and the data collection algorithm are determined. Theoretical analysis and performance simulations indicate that MTDCM is an energy efficient mechanism. It has prominent features on balancing the energy consumption and prolonging the network lifetime.

Closed Walk Ferry Route Design for Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Message ferry is a controllable mobile node with large capacity and rechargeable energy to collect information from the sensors to the sink in wireless sensor networks. In the existing works, route of the message ferry is often designed from the solutions of the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) and its variants. In such solutions, the ferry route is often a simple cycle, which starts from the sink, access all the sensors exactly once and moves back to the sink. In this paper, we consider a different case, where the ferry route is a closed walk that contains more than one simple cycle. This problem is defined as the Closed Walk Ferry Route Design (CWFRD) problem in this paper, which is an optimization problem aiming to minimize the average weighted delay. The CWFRD problem is proved to be NP-hard, and the Integer Linear Programming (ILP) formulation is given. Furthermore, a heuristic scheme, namely the Initialization-Split-Optimization (ISO) scheme is proposed to construct closed walk routes for the ferry. The experimental results show that the ISO algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively reduce the average weighted delay compared to the existing simple cycle based scheme.

Energy and Delay-Efficient Multipath Routing Protocol for Supporting Mobile Sink in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크에서 이동 싱크를 지원하기 위한 다중 경로 라우팅 프로토콜)

  • The research on multipath routing has been studied to solve the problem of frequent path breakages due to node and link failures and to enhance data delivery reliability in wireless sensor networks. In the multipath routing, mobile sinks such as soldiers in battle fields and rescuers in disaster areas bring about new challenge for handling their mobility. The sink mobility requests new multipath construction from sources to mobile sinks according to their movement path. Since mobile sinks have continuous mobility, the existing multipath can be exploited to efficiently reconstruct to new positions of mobile sinks. However, the previous protocols do not address this issue. Thus, we proposed an efficient multipath reconstruction protocol called LGMR for mobile sinks in wireless sensor networks. The LGMR address three multipath reconstruction methods based on movement types of mobile sinks: a single hop movement-based local multipath reconstruction, a multiple hop movement-based local multipath reconstruction, and a multiple hop movement-based global multipath reconstruction. Simulation results showed that the LGMR has better performance than the previous protocol in terms of energy consumption and data delivery delay.

A Rendezvous Node Selection Scheme Considering a Drone's Trajectory for Reliable Data Collection (안정적인 데이터 수집을 위해 드론의 비행경로를 고려한 랑데부 노드 선정 기법)

  • Many studies that improve the efficiency of data collection and a network's lifetime by using a mobile sink have been conducted using wireless sensor networks. If a drone is used as a mobile sink, the drone can collect data more efficiently than can existing mobile sinks operating on the ground because the drone can minimize the effects of obstacles and the terrain. In this paper, we propose a rendezvous node selection scheme which considers estimated drone's trajectory and data collection latency of sensor networks for reliable data collection, when a drone whose trajectory is not predetermined works with terrestrial wireless sensor networks. A selected rendezvous node on the ground collects data from the entire network and it sends then collected data to the drone via direct communication. We also verify that the proposed scheme is more reliable than previous schemes without considering the drone's trajectory and data collection latency.

Compressed Sensing Based Low Power Data Transmission Systems in Mobile Sensor Networks (모바일 센서 네트워크에서 압축 센싱을 이용한 저전력 데이터 전송 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose a system in a large-scale environment, such as desert and ocean, that can reduce the overall transmission power consumption in mobile sensor network. It is known that the transmission power consumption in wireless sensor network is proportional to the square of transmission distance. Therefore, if the locations of mobile sensors are far from the sink node, the power consumption required for data transmission increases, leading to shortened operating time of the sensors. Hence, in this paper, we propose a system that can reduce the power consumption by allowing to transmit data only if the transmission range of the sensors is within a predetermined distance. Moreover, the energy efficiency of the overall sensor network can even be improved by reducing the number of data transmissions at the sink node to gateway based on compressed sensing. The proposed system is actually implemented using Arduino and Raspberry Pi and it is confirmed that source data can be approximately decoded even when the gateway received encoded data fewer than the required number of data from the sink node. The performance of the proposed system is analyzed in theory.

Two Solutions for Unnecessary Path Update Problem in Multi-Sink Based IoT Networks (멀티 싱크 기반 IoT 네트워크에서 불필요한 경로 업데이트 문제와 두 가지 해결 기법)

  • Recently, as interest in IoT (Internet of Things) increase, research and standardization of a new protocol which reflects the characteristics of IoT has progressed. Among them, RPL(IPv6 for Low-Power Lossy Network) is a standardized routing protocol for IoT. RPL utilizes DIO (DODAG Information Object) messages which is flooded from the sink node to the whole network for path establish and maintenance. However, in large scale networks, not only a long time is required to propagate the DIO message to the whole networks but also a bottleneck effect around the sink node is occurred. Multi-sink based approaches which take advantage of reducing routing overhead and bottleneck effect are widely used to solve these problems. In this paper, we define 'unnecessary path update problems' that may arise when applying the RPL protocol to the multi sink based IoT networks and propose two methods namely Routing Metric based Path Update Decision method and Immediate Successor based Path Update Decision method for selective routing update.
