  • 최근 관련 기술의 발전과 디지털 컨버전스의 가속화로 모바일 제품이 소형화, 다기능화 되어 가고 있다. 이러한 경향에 따라, 다양한 기능을 지원하기 위한 높은 사양의 디스플레이가 요구되고 있으며, 많은 업체들이 고화질, 고해상도 디스플레이의 개발에 경쟁적으로 매진하고 있다. 그러나 사용자의 인지적 특성을 고려하지 않은 고해상도 경쟁은 생산비용만 높이는 결과를 초래할 수 있다. 본 연구는 디스플레이의 설계 요소별 선호도를 분석하고, 사람이 탐지할 수 있는 두 자극 간의 최소한의 차이역(difference threshold)인 JND(Just Noticeable Difference)을 활용하여, 설계 요소의 인지적 특성을 파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 모바일 제품에 주로 사용되는 TFT-LCD 를 평가 대상으로, 30 명의 피실험자를 대상으로 JND 측정실험을 수행하였으며, 실험결과를 바탕으로 디스플레이에 대한 주요 설계변수들의 특성을 파악하였다. 이 연구결과는 사용자의 선호도를 고려한 모바일 제품의 디스플레이 설계지침으로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • In this Paper, we analyze the application of Interactive Data Broadcasting in DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) in the accordance with convergence of service and technology. With the acceleration of digital convergence in the Ubiquitous period substantial development of digital media technology and convergence of broadcasting and telecommunication industry are being witnessed. Consequently these results gave rise to newly combined-products such as DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), WCDMA(Wide-band code division multiple access), Wibro(Wireless Broadband Internet), IP-TV (Internet protocol TV) and HSDPA(High speed downlink packet access). The preparatory stage for the implementation of Interactive Data Broadcasting Service will be reached by the end of December, 2006. DMB is the first result of a successful convergence service between Broadcasting and Telecommunication in new media era. Multimedia technology and services are the core elements of DMB. The Data Broadcasting will not only offer various services of interactive information such News, Weather, Broadcasting Program etc, but also be linked with characteristic function of mobile phone such as calling and SMS(Short Message Service) via Return Channel.

Synthesis and characterization of negative-type photosensitive polyimides for TFT-LCD array

  • Two different negative-type photosensitive polyimides were synthesized and characterized for an application as an interdielectric layer in TFTLCD array. In the case of photocurable polyimides, the photosensitive moiety, 2-HHSP, was synthesized through 3 step reaction, and then was incorporated into side chains of polyimide precursor by post reaction. Optimum compositions of negative-type photocurable polyimde were also formulated. For photopolymerizable polyimides, two novel UV monomers containing imide linkages were prepared. An aqueous alkaline developable polymer matrix was synthesized by free radical copolymerization. A negative photoresist formulation was developed utilizing synthesized UV monomers containing imide linkage, photoinitiator, UV oligomer, and alkali developable polymer matrix. It was found that viaholes with good resolution, high transmittance and thermal resistance could be obtained by photolithographic process utilizing the negative-type photoresist formulations.

  • As digital contents based on 3D graphics are increased, the requirement for low power 3D graphic hardware for mobile devices is increased. We design a transformation engine for mobile 3D graphic processor. We propose a simplified transformation engine for mobile 3D graphic processor. The area of the transformation engine is reduced by merging a mapping transformation unit into a projective transformation unit and by replacing a clipping unit with a selection unit. It consists of a viewing transformation unit a projective transformation unit a divide by w nit, and a selection unit. It can process 32 bit floating point format of the IEEE-754 standard or a reduced 24 bit floating point format. It has a pipelined architecture so that a vertex is processed every 4 cycles except for the initial latency. The RTL code is verified using an FPGA.

Replication of concave and convex microlens array of light guide plate for liquid crystal display in injection molding (음각, 양각 광학패턴 적용 휴대폰용 도광판 금형 제작 및 광특성 연구)

  • A back light unit (BLU) is a key module of a thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD), frequently utilized in various mobile displays. In this study, we experimentally characterize transcription and optical properties of concave and convex microlens arrays (MLAs) of light guide plate (LGP) fabricated by injection molding with polycarbonate as a LGP substrate material. Nickel mold inserts were manufactured by electroforming on the MLA which was fabricated by the thermal reflow of photoresist microstructures patterned by UV-photolithography. For the case of convex microlens, the height of replicated microlens was less than that of the mold insert while maintaining almost the same microlens diameter of the mold insert as the location of the microlens is far from the gate. In contrast, for the concave microlens, the diameter of replicated microlens was larger than that of mold insert, while showing almost the same microlens height as the mold insert. From the optical examination of replicated convex and concave MLAs, it was found that a higher luminance of the LGP was achieved by the concave MLAs compared to the convex MLAs (about 30% enhancement in this case)due to the utilization of a larger amount of light provided by the light sources.
