BACKGROUND: Mixed cropping of legume and grass was effective system in view point of providing organic matter and nitrogen or reducing the nitrogen starvation of following crop. The relation of the change of N and P constituents depending on the cropping types and those effects on the growth and nutrient uptake of the following crop were observed. METHODS AND RESULTS: Three cropping types, hairy vetch mono cropping, barley mono cropping, and mixed cropping of hairy vetch and barley were applied. Soil properties, growth characteristics, and nitrogen production of green manure crops were observed. In additions, the effect of cropping types on the growth pattern of corn as the following crop was observed. In the mixed cropping system, creeping type hairy vetch climbed to the erect type barely for light utilization resulting in improvement of light interception rate and higher LAI (Leaf Area Index) than in mono cropping. Mixed cropping showed higher biomass production and soil nitrogen availability among the cropping types, indicating relatively much more nutrient supply and higher yield production of following crop. CONCLUSION: Mixed cropping showed relatively higher LAI (dry matter) mainly because of intense competition for light utilization usually after flowering stage. Mixed cropping also showed relatively higher yield of corn, the following crop rather than other types, mainly due to the more biomass production potential and higher N and P production ability. Therefore, mixed cropping was adaptable method to reduce or replace chemical fertilizer application for environmentally-friendly agriculture.

This study was conducted to find optimum mixed sowing ratio of green manure crops to reduce the use of chemical fertilizer as well as to increase the crop yield potential which will foster the utilization of green manure crops in the upland field in view of environment friendly agriculture. According to the study, the mixed ratio, 50:50, of hairy vetch and green barley showed highest nitrogen production yield in the soil due to the relatively higher organic nitrogen supply from the hairy vetch plant as well as nitrogen fixation from the air rather than other mixed ratio. In the 50:50 mixed ratio of hairy vetch and green barely total nitrogen amount in the soil showed 17.2kg per 10a, but in the other treatment ratio such as 75:25, 25:75. total nitrogen fixation amount were 16.7, 16.9 respectively. We also conducted the experiment to compare the effect of the mixed sowing treatment of green manure crops on the production of corn cultivated as a succeeding plant of hairy vetch. According to the result, the mixed ratio, 50:50, of hairy vetch and green barley treatment showed highest yield potential of corn as 153kg per 10a in seed weight which is due to the relatively higher organic nitrogen supply from the hairy vetch plant as well as nitrogen fixation from the air rather than other mixed ratio. In the mixed sowing treatment of hairy vetch 100 and barley 0 ratio, the corn production showed 148kg per 10a which is 5kg lower than that of hairy vetch 50 and barley 50 ratio, but showed statistically no difference between those two treatment. Otherwise, different treatments, such as hairy vetch 75 and barley 25, 25 and 75, 0 and 100 showed statistically different each other. Therefore, it was concluded that green manure crops, such as hairy vetch, green barley and rye were very effective crops to increase the soil fertility and gave the positive effect to the crops to give vegetative and propagative growth condition and, in turn, increased the yield potential. We have to make policy to enhance the utility of green manure crops in the upland crops as well as faddy field for the soil fertility and crop yield production which will guarantee prominent quality of environment friendly agriculture products.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been manufactured in recent years and widely used in various fields. Reactive oxygen species (ROS), which occur in AgNPs, destroy cell membranes. It is widely accepted that ROS generated in this manner inhibit microorganisms growth and causes toxic effects, However, it does not affect cell membranes directly but positively affects growth in plants with cell walls. The nanoball used in this experiment is a new material that generates ROS stably and is used in aqueous solution. Results of this study indicate a 30% increase in yield of Ginseng mixed with culture soil. The analysis of soil condition after cultivation showed that the possibility of repetitive cultivation in soil mixed with Nanoball was high. This suggests that Nanoball is an antimicrobial active material due to the microbial / extermination effect of pathogenic microorganisms. Therefore, there may be potential applications in agricultural cultivation sites as a repetitive cultivation technology that reuses soil.
This study was conducted to develop optimal composition of flour brew in order to economically utilize flour brew inoculated by lactic acid bacteria as a starter(mother sponge) in bread-making. Two flour brews were prepared ; one with flour and water, the other with flour, water and NaCl. Various nutrients were added to both flour brews and Lactobacilli deMan Rogosa and Sharpe (MRS) broth to investigate the effect of them on growth and activities of Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus brevis and their mixed culture in flour brews to be tested with incubation at 37$^{\circ}C$. The growth of Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus brevis and their mixed culture was stimulated by addition of NaCl with 0.85% concentratin and more by mixed culture than by single lactic acid bacteria, resulting in 3 hrs reduction in cultivation and more by mixed culture than by single lactic acid bacteria, resulting in 3 hrs reduction in cultivation time. the addition of 3% glucose to flour brew with NaCl was observed to enhance acid productioni by mixed culture. Yeast extract greatly affected growth and activities of mixed culture of lactic acid bacteria in flour brew with NaCl and its optimum level of this additive in flour brew with NaCl was approximately 1.0%. The optimal composition of flour brew for mixed culture of lactic acid bacteria was suggested as follows; flour 100g, water 300g, NaCl 3.46g, glucose 12.48g, yeast extract 3.46g.
In order to induce the rapid alcohol fermentation through the increases of the cell density in a continuous alcohol fermentation of naked barley, the single-cultivation with S. cerevisiae IS-019(SCM, ordinary control), mixed-cultivation with Saccharomyces uvarum IS-026 having a flocculent ability and S. cerevisiae IS-019(MCM), and mash recirculation by single-cultivation of S. cerevisiae IS-019(MRM) modes were investigated. The cell mass in the mixed-cultivation mode was about 10% higher than that of ordinary control but the final alcohol yield was slightlyl decreased. When recycled the mash with the flow rate of 7 l/h from V$_{6}$ to V$_{5}$ fermentors under the ordinary control, the cell density was distributed at 140~170$\times $10$^{6}$ cell/ml depending upon the fermentorsorders, higher about 20% than that of the ordinary control. Under these conditions the alcohol productivity of the maximum and the overall was 12.16 g/l$\cdot $h with an alcohol of 7.6% at the V$_{5}$ fermentor and 1.19 g/l$\cdot $h with an alcohol of 8.94%, respectively. For higher cell mass it was more effective to apply the mash recirculation mode with the single-cultivation of S. cerevisiae IS-019 in a pilot scale multi-stage CSTR.
This research reports the effects of shifting cultivation on soil environment collecting samples from 0-5 cm soil depth from five locations viz. at Burburichhara, Maichchari, Longadu, Sukurchhari and Muralipara in Rangamati district of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHTs). Soil analyses showed that fungal and bacterial population, microbial respiration and active microbial biomass, maximum water holding capacity, conductivity and moisture contents were significantly (at least $p{\leq}0.05$) lower in shifting cultivated soil compared to adjacent mixed tree plantations at all the sites. On an average in soils of 5 different shifting cultivated lands fungal population was $1.33{\times}10^5$ CFU/g dry soil and bacterial population $1.80{\times}10^7$ CFU/g dry soil and in mixed plantations fungal population was $1.70{\times}10^5$ and bacterial population $2.51{\times}10^7$ CFU/g dry soil. Organic matter and exchangeable Ca and Mg contents were significantly (at least $p{\leq}0.05$) lower and bulk density significantly (at least $p{\leq}0.05$) higher in shifting cultivated land in most of the locations compared to adjacent mixed tree plantations. Ratios of microbial respiration and organic carbon as well as active microbial biomass and organic carbon were distinctly lower and pH higher at 3 locations in shifting cultivated soils compared to mixed plantations. Findings of various soil properties, therefore, suggest that shifting cultivation has deteriorating effects on soil environment.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Environment, the amount of food waste generated in Korea is 15,903 tons, which accounts for about 30% of the daily household waste. Food waste in Korea is on the rise, and various odors, greenhouse gases, and leachate generated in the process of discharging, transporting, and processing are emerging as social problems. Accordingly, there is a need for a method for recycling food waste. Therefore, this study was carried out to establish an appropriate limiting dose by manufacturing fertilizer mixed with food waste powder and treating it on tomatoes to investigate the growth and yield of crops. The experiment was carried out with continuous cultivation in 2021 (1st year) and 2022 (2nd year), and the treatment groups were set to No Treatment (NT), Chemical Fertilizer (CF), Mixed Fertilizer (MF), and Mixed Fertilizer×2 (MF×2). As a result of the 1st year growth survey, shoot and root length did not show a significant difference between the treatment groups, and the fresh weight showed a significant difference between the MF and MF×2. As a result of the 2nd year growth survey, there was no significant difference in shoot length, root length, and dry weight between the treatment groups, and the fresh weight of the CF was significantly greater than that of the MF×2. The yield of 1st year, MF×2 increased significantly compared to other treatment groups. In the case of 2nd year, CF, and MF×2 show significantly high values compared to NT. Judging from these results, continuous cultivation using food waste powder mixed fertilizer did not have a significant effect on crop growth and yield. However, it is considered that several studies including continuous cultivation experiments are needed to accurately set the appropriate application amount and limit the application amount of the mixed fertilizer for food waste.
For the development of Boxthorn organic cultivation techniques, we investigated effect of several organic compost as a foundation fertilizer and growing plant fertilizer. And we adopted partly opening rain shelter greenhouse to protect anthracnose. In organic compost applying test yield characteristics of 'Mixed organic compost' treatment was the best but in betaine content measurement of dried fruit, 'Mixed organic compost and nitrogen guano' treatment was the best and it's chlorophyll and 100 fruit weight were also better than the other treatments.
