  • To meet an increasing demand for high performance in gun dynamic plant, both a precise and a fast response positioning are strongly required for the gun servomechanism control. A mode switching control(MSC) system, which includes a fine stabilizing controller, fast positioning one and a switching function, is widely used to meet this requirement. Stabilization is performed through PID controller, while proximate time optimal servo(PTOS) is used for target designation. Because gun dynamic have large damping comparing to acceleration, PTOS algorithm with damping is newly derived. This paper adopts the initial value compensation method that improve the transient response after switching. Some simulation results are given to show the effectiveness of our scheme.

  • This study lotuses on the seismic behavior of 3-, 9-, and 20-story steel moment resisting frame (MRF) structures designed in accordance with the 2000 International Building Code using different Response Modification factors (R factors) 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. For a detailed case study, 30 different structures were evaluated for twenty ground motions representing the hazard level which is equal to a 2% probability exceeding in 50 years (2% in 50 years). The results showed that the current R factors provide conservative designs for the 3- and 9-story buildings for the Collapse Prevention performance objective. However, the 20-story buildings designed without using the minimum requirement of spectral acceleration CS prescribed in the IBC 2000 did not satisfy the seismic performance for Collapse Prevention performance.

  • Hydrological modeling is a very complex task dealing with multi-source of data, but it can be potentially benefited from recent improvements and developments in remote sensing. The estimation of actual land surface evapotranspiration (ET), an important variable in water management, has become possible based entirely on satellite data. This study adopted a Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land (SEBAL) with the use of MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) satellite products. The SEBAL model is one of the commonly used approach for the ET estimation. A primary advantage of the SEBAL model is rather its minimum requirement for ground-based weather data. The MODIS provides ET (MOD16) product that is based on the Penman-Monteith equation. This study aims to further develop the SEBAL model by employing a more rigorous parameterization scheme including the estimation of uncertainty associated with parameter and model selection in regression model. Finally, the proposed model is compared with the existing approaches and comprehensive discussion is then provided.

  • The LIGA X-ray exposure step was modelled into three inequalities, by assuming that the X-ray energy attenuated within a resist is deposited only in the localized range of the resist. From these inequalities, equations for the minimum and maximum exposure times required for a good quality microstructure were obtained. Also, an equation for the thickness of an X-ray mask absorber was obtained from the exposure requirement of threshold dose deposition. The calculation method of the synchrotron radiation power from a synchrotron radiation source was introduced and applied to an X-ray exposure step. A power from a synchrotron radiation source was introduced and applied to an X-ray exposure step/ A power function of photon energy, approximating the attenuation length of the representative LIGA resist, PMMA, and the mean photon energy of the XZ-rays incident upon an X-ray mask absorber were applied to the above mentioned equations. Consequently, the tendencies of the minimum and maximum exposure and with respect to mean photon energy and thick ness of PMMA was obtained. Additionally, the tendencies of the necessary thickness of PMMA and photon energy of the X-ray mask absorber with respect to thickness of PMMA and photon energy of the X-rays incident upon an X-ray mask absorber were examined. The minimum exposure time increases monotonically with increasing mean photon energy for the same total power density and is not a function of the thickness of resist. The minimum exposure time increases with increasing mean photon energy for the same total power density in the case of the general LIGA process, where the thickness of PMMA is thinner than the attenuation length of PMMA. Additionally, the minimum exposure time increases monotonically with increasing thickness of PMMA. The maximally exposable thickness of resist is proportional to the attenuation length of the resist at the mean photon energy with its proportional constant of ln $(Dd_m/D_{dv})$. The necessary thickness of a gold X-ray mask absorber due to absorption edges of gold, increases smoothly with increasing PMMA thickness ratio, and is independent of the total power density itself. The simplicity of the derived equations has made clearly understandable the X-ray exposure phenomenon and the correlation among the exposure times, the attenuation coefficient and the thickness of an X-ray mask absorber, the attenuation coefficient and the thickness of the resist, and the synchrotron radiation power density.

  • Minimizing the self weight of long-span deck slabs is one of the key factors for the practical and economic design of a composite two-girder bridge. In this paper, the minimum design thickness and rebar details of prestressed concrete deck slabs for composite two-girder bridges with girder span length from 4 m to 12 m are studied based on the safety and serviceability. The bridge deck slab with minimum thickness is designed as a one-way slab considering orthotropic behavior. Then fatigue safety of the deck slab is examined. Serviceability requirements for the deck slab such as deflection and crack width limits are also examined. The result shows that rebars with diameter less than 16 mm is recommended for the improved fatigue behavior, and, for the deck slab with span length longer than 8 m, the deflection limit governs the minimum design thickness. The result also shows that, for the deck slab with span length longer than 4 m, the distribution rebar requirement in the current Korea Highway Bridge Design Code is not sufficient to maintain the structural continuity in bridge axis as expected from the deck slab with span length shorter than 3 m.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the pressure treatment characteristics of Japanese red pine and Japanese larch skin timber with ACQ-2, CUAZ-2 and CuHDO-1. The effect of moisture content (MC) on preservative treatability was investigated for Japanese red pine sapwood and Japanese larch heartwood, and fixation characteristics of CCA alternatives was also evaluated. Japanese red pine sapwood, which was dried below 30 percent MC, was fully penetrated with preservatives, and minimum requirement of preservative retention for the hazard class H3 was achieved. Through measuring preservative retention gradient in Japanese red pine sapwood, it was confirmed that the retention gradient of CuHDO-1 was steeper than that of both ACQ-2 and CUAZ-2. In particular, it was intensified at a higher MCs of wood samples (25∼30%). Japanese larch heartwood did not meet the minimum requirement of penetration and retention for the hazard class H3 over the range of pretreatment MCs tested. With presteaming under $121^{\circ}C$ for 12 hours, the treatability of Japanese larch heartwood was enhanced to meet the minimum requirement for the hazard class H3. The fixation rate of copper was much more faster under drying condition compared with nondrying condition; more than 95% of copper were fixed in 3~6 days and 1 day under drying conditions in Japanese red pine sapwood and Japanese larch heartwood, respectively. After 3-week fixation period at ambient temperature, the amount of mobile copper in treated wood sample that remains available for leaching from treated wood was the highest in the wood samples treated with ACQ-2, followed by CuHDO-1 and CUAZ-2. It was proportional to the amount of copper in treating solution.

  • KONEX (Korea New Exchange) is the organised stock exchange for small enterprises. It is a channel through which venture start-ups at their early stage can raise funds without a huge burden of debt. We explain the regulations in this market and examine the effects of major changes in the relevant regulations. The first change was replacing the call auction mechanism with the continuous auction mechanism. The change improved the information asymmetry among investors. The second was lowering the minimum deposit requirement for individual investors from 300 million won to 100 million won. As the result of the change, market liquidity increased a lot and the number of investors increased. The last change was introducing the small investment account. Although this raised the participation of individual investors but did not lead to the improvement in market liquidity or information asymmetry. In overall, encouraging more investors to participate in the transactions in KONEX is the fast way to boost the market, while the long-term strategy should focus more on improving the information asymmetry by helping information generating and transferring activities.

  • To assess the safety of playground equipments in the elementary schools of Taegu, a site visit was made to 117 elementary schools out of 119 schools between 1st and 30th of April 1991. Safety criteria were developed on the bases of Massachusetts' Playground Safety Check List, standard height of Korean children of 6-12 years old, and source book for designing playground equipments. There were eleven different kinds of playground equipments installed in 117 schools but the number of equipments was about 50-60% of the minimum requirement set by the Ministry of Education except chin-up bar. Among the installed equipments, 47.3% of swings, 16.6% of parallel bars, 20.0% of monkey bars, and 16.0% of slides were broken down. None of the swings, slides, seesaws, monkey bars, and sandboxes met the safety criteria to the full but 59.0 of chin-up bars, 31.4% of Parallel bars, and 13,5% of stumps met the criteria fully. The proportions of equipments that were dangerous for children to play on were 26.4% for slides, 20.0% for monkey bars, 11.6% for seesaws, 10.4% for parallel bars, 9.8% for sandboxes, 7.4% for swings and stumps, and 3.9% for chin-up bars. The rests were either in need of repair or broken down. It was revealed by this survey that the playground equipments were too short in number to meet the minimum requirement, designs and size were not standardized, and many of the equipments were involved with the risk of child accidents. Therefore, a safety standard for the playground equipments should be developed and the existing equipments should be repaired immediately.

  • This study proposes policy recommendations for the Korea New Exchange ("KONEX"), which is a financial platform for SMEs and startups that relied on indirect and policy financing in the past. SMEs and venture firms with limited human and physical listing resources can grow through market incubation, and venture capitalists expect an early exit or return on investment. However, the lack of liquidity and sluggish trading volume have weakened the function of the market. Despite prior policy efforts, the number of newly listed companies has decreased while listing demand for KOSDAQ and K-OTC has increased. This study aims to suggest short- and long-term improvements in regulations and throughout the KONEX firms' listing life cycle. First, the minimum deposit requirement on individual investors should be abolished to increase the number of investors. Second, information disclosure should be conducted by firms so that the nominated advisor can focus on discovering and supporting new listed companies. Third, in order to increase trading volume, the 5% dispersion rule should be changed to 25% dispersion incentive principle. Fourth, a new track without profit condition in expedited transfer listing should be introduced because the KOSDAQ relaxes the profit realization requirements for listing. Lastly, transfer listing without additional review for firms that fulfill ownership dispersion, information disclosure, and investor protection will strengthen the incubating role of the KONEX.
