In order to identify the design parameters of a hydraulic engine mount with a nonlinear characteristics, an experimental method has been used generally. The method takes a considerable time and expense because of preparing an experimental apparatus, conducting a test, and analyzing results. Therefore, this paper presents a simple method to identify the design parameters of a cylindrical hydraulic engine mount, and optimize the design parameters. The physical model and mathematical equations of the mount were derived, and values of the design parameters of the mount were identified by optimization method with minimizing difference between the analytical results with the equations and the experimental results. This method is more simpler than the conventional experiment method and identify successfully the design parameters. In addition, the technique can optimize the design parameters of the mount to improves the isolation performance of the mount.

The errors can cause the serious loss of the performance of a precision machine system. In this paper, we proposed the method of allocating the alignment tolerances of the parts and applied this method to get the optimal tolerances of a Confocal Scanning Microscope. In general, tight tolerances are required to maintain the performance of a system, but a high cost of manufacturing and assembling is required to preserve the tight tolerances. The purpose of allocating the optimal tolerances is minimizing the cost while keeping the high performance of the system. In the optimal problem, we maximized the tolerances while maintaining the performance requirements. The Monte Carlo Method, a statistical simulation method, is used in tolerance analysis. Alignment tolerances of optical components of the confocal scanning microscope are optimized to minimize the cost and to maintain the observation performance of the microscope. We can also apply this method to the other precision machine system.

The nonlinear estimation and the pseudo-linear estimation are used to treat the target localization in sensor network which provides range difference of arrival (RDOA) measurements. It is known that the nonlinear estimation has sensitive problem for the initial estimate and the pseudo-linear estimation has a large estimation error. The QCLS method is the typical estimator of the methods for pseudo-linear estimation. However the estimate by using the QCLS method includes the estimation error because the first stage of two estimation processes of the QCLS method causes the biased estimation error. Therefore we propose a instrumental variables(IV) method for minimizing the estimation error of the first stage. The simulation shows that the performance of the proposed method is superior to the QCLS method.

The inverse problem of determining unknown inlet temperature in thermally developing, hydrodynamically developed two phase laminar flow in a parallel plate duct is considered. The inlet temperature profile is determined by measuring temperature in the flow field. No prior information is needed for the functional form of the inlet temperature profile. The inverse convection problem is solved by minimizing the objective function with regularization method. The conjugate gradient method as iterative method and the Tikhonov regularization method are employed. The effects of the functional form of inlet temperature, the number of measurement points and the measurement errors are investigated. The accuracy and efficiency of these two methods are compared and discussed.

In this paper, we study mobile data collector (MDC) based data-gathering schemes in wireless sensor networks. In Such networks, MDCs are used to collect data from the environment and transfer them to the sink. The majority of existing data-gathering schemes suffer from high data-gathering latency because they use only a single MDC. Although some schemes use multiple MDCs, they focus on maximizing network lifetime rather than minimizing packet delay. In order to address the limitations of existing schemes, this paper focuses on minimizing packet delay for given number of MDCs and minimizing the number of MDCs for a given delay bound of packets. To achieve the minimum packet delay and minimum number of MDCs, two optimization problems are formulated, and traveling distance and traveling time of MDCs are estimated. The interior-point algorithm is used to obtain the optimal solution for each optimization problem. Numerical results and analysis are presented to validate the proposed method.
As a way to propose a method for the establishment of practical damage-minimizing plan for chemical plants, the release scenario was established by using API-581 BRD and the effect zone was estimated by the KS-RBI program supporting the quantitative cause analysis. And the risk assessment was performed. As a result, we found that to minimize the damage of a chemical plant, it is effective to use four release hole diameters (small, medium, large and rupture) and release time estimated according to the classes of detection and isolation systems. In addition, it can be safely said that through appling the damage areas considering weighted average by failure frequency and worst-case simultaneously, industrial sites can come up with the effective emergency response plan.

This paper considers a problem to find a set of intervals containing all the points for the given n points and m intervals on a line, This is a special case of the set cover problem, well known as an NP-hard problem. As optimization criteria of the problem, there are minimizing the number of intervals to cover the points, maximizing the number of points each of which is covered by exactly one interval, and so on. In this paper, the intervals have weights and the sum of weights of intervals to cover a point is defined as a membership of the point. We will study the problem to find an interval cover minimizing the maximum of memberships of points. Using the dynamic programming method, we provide an O(m2)-time algorithm to improve the time complexity O(nm log n) given in the previous work.

Assembly U-lines are increasingly accepted in industry, especially just-in-time production systems, for the efficient utilization of workforce. In this paper, we present an integer programming formulation and a branch-and-bound method for balancing the U-line with the objective of minimizing the number of workstations with a fixed cycle time. In the mathematical model, we provide the method that can reduce the number of variables and constraints. The proposed branch-and-bound method searches the optimal solution based on a depth-first-search. To efficiently search for the optimal solutions to the problems, an assignment rule is used in the method. Bounding strategies and dominance rules are also utilized. Some problems require a large amount of computation time to find the optimal solutions. For this reason. some heuristic fathoming rules are also proposed. Extensive experiments with test-bed problems in the literature are carried out to show the performance of the proposed method. The computational results show that our method is promising in solution quality.
As a first attempt, an inverse hybrid numerical method for small scale parameter estimation of functionally graded (FG) nanobeams using measured frequencies is presented. The governing equations are obtained with the Eringen's nonlocal elasticity assumptions and the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The equations are discretized by using the differential quadrature method (DQM). The discretized equations are transferred from temporal domain to frequency domain and frequencies of the nanobeam are obtained. By applying random error to these frequencies, measured frequencies are generated. The measured frequencies are considered as input data and inversely, the small scale parameter of the beam is obtained by minimizing a defined functional. The functional is defined as root mean square error between the measured frequencies and calculated frequencies by the DQM. Then, the conjugate gradient (CG) optimization method is employed to minimize the functional and the small scale parameter is obtained. Efficiency, convergence and accuracy of the presented hybrid method for small scale parameter estimation of the beams for different applied random error, boundary conditions, length-to-thickness ratio and volume fraction coefficients are demonstrated.

Authors had analyzed the Press machine's vibrational characteristics by Substructure Synthesis Method. This paper discribes the structural Dynamic Optimization for the machine using Sensitive Analysis Method. The substructure synthesis method and sensitive analysis methods are used for the vibration analysis and structural modification. The results obtained are as follows ; 1. The tooling precision of the press machine is ruled by the bending vibration of the slide. 2. The structural Modification Method for minimizing impact responses is proposed, and modal analysis and sensitive analysis method are introduced to solve it. 3. The impact responses of running machine were reduced to 40% of the unmodified machine by using the proposed method.
