In a tactical-edge environment, where multiple weapon resources are coordinated together via services, it is essential to make an efficient binding between an abstract service and a resource that are needed to execute composite services for accomplishing a given mission. However, the tactical network that is used in military operation has low bandwidth and a high rate of packet loss. Therefore, communication overhead between services must be minimized to execute composite services in a stable manner in the tactical network. In addition, a tactical-edge environment changes dynamically, and it affects the connectivity and bandwidth of the tactical network. To deal with these characteristics of the tactical network we propose two service-resource reallocation methods which minimize the communication overhead between service gateways and effectively manage neutralization of gateways during distributed service coordination. We compared the effectiveness of these two - methods in terms of total communication overhead between service gateways and resource-allocation similarity between the initial resource allocation and the reallocation result.

DEM has been used for various purposes overall fields of engineering, the fields of civil engineering, military, communication, environment, and so forth and its applications are being extending increasingly. It is well hewn that LiDAR DEM is definitely superior to the other surveying methods. But LiDAR DEM run short of a full study about vertical accuracy. In order to assess LiDAR DEM, total 35 stations were selected and surveyed by GPS for utilizing as reference data. And then accuracy of LiDAR DEM was analyzed by comparison between both LiDAR DEM and CPS surveying. The RMSE of ${\pm}0.109m$ was shown in vertical direction. It is within the permissible accuracy required for mapping on a scale of 1 to 500 and 1 to 1000 on the mapping rule notified by the National Geographic Information Institute. It is expected that the results of this study will be fully used in the field of large scale DEM generation and be utilized as basic information in applied field of LiDAR DEM.

Research is being carried out at Korea Aerospace Research Institute with aim of design a HALE UAV(High Altitude Long Endurance Unmanned Air Vehicle). HALE UAVs are ideally suited to provide surveillance, remote sensing and communication relay capabilities for both military and civilian applications. HALE UAVs typically cruise at an altitude between 15 km and 20 km, travelling at low speed and circling specific area of interest. Airframe structural point of view, weight reduction of the airframe structure is the most important method to improve the flight efficiency. High modulus CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) has been used in designing the structure in order to minimize the airframe weight. With respect to structural design and analysis, the key question is to decide an adequate airworthiness certification base to define suitable load cases for sizing of various structural components. In this study, FAR(Federal Aviation Regulation) 23 have constituted the guidance and benchmark throughout all structural studies. And the MSC/FlightLoads was introduced to analyze the flight loads for the HALE UAV. The MSC/FlightLoads can compute the flexible air load and analyzed loads are distributed on structural model directly. A preliminary structural concept was defined in accordance with the estimated inertial and aerodynamic loads. A FEM analysis was carried out using the MSC/Nastran code to predict the static and dynamic behaviour of UAV structure.

Many systems are developing for the realization of NCW(Network Centric Warfare). UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) Network is attracting attention in a lot of military applications. In general, UAVs have the potential to create an ad-hoc network and greatly reduce the hops from source to destination. However, UAV networks exhibit unique properties such as high mobility, high data rate, and real time service. The routing protocols are required to design the multi-hop routing protocols that can dynamically adapt to the requirements of UAV network. In this paper we analyse Geographic Routing Protocol is based on geographical distance between source and destination for efficient and reliable transmission. Geographic Routing Protocol is evaluated in video service scenarios with TDMA model in our simulation. The simulation results show that the performance of Geographic Routing Protocol is better than the MANET Routing Protocol in terms of packet received ratio, end to end delay, and routing traffic sent.

This paper presents development activities of the T700/701K turbo-shaft engine for Korean Utility Helicopter(KUH). The T700/701K is the first rear-drive variant of the GE's T700 engine which is proven for military applications in the world. The main workscope of the development includes a modification from a front-drive engine to a rear-drive one, an performance enhancement of the power turbine and an incorporation of two channel FADEC(Full Authority Digital Engine Control) system for more reliable operation. The first engine run for development and qualification test was successfully completed in 2008. Since the PFRT(Preliminary Flight Rating Test) has been completed, the first flight of the engine installed in the first prototype of KUH has been successfully demonstrated in March, 2010 and the engine installation compatibility tests are being carried out during KUH flight test. The test and evaluation for qualification has been done except for the low cycle fatigue test up to date.
In most positioning and allocation practices, many mathematical models are proposed in various fields. The set covering (SC) problem has many practical applications of modeling not only real world problem but also in military. As our air defense weapon systems are getting older and declining the performance, new plans far acquisition of high-tech air defense weapon system are being conducted. In this paper we established simulation model for optimal allocation of KDX which carries new missile defense weapon system by using partial set covering considering both attacker and defender side. By implementating simulation model, we assess the available scenarios and show the optimal pre-positioning of KDX and interceptor's allocation. Furthermore, we provide a variety of experiments and extensive scale sized situations for Korea Indigenous Missile Defense (KIMD) and support decision-making for efficient positioning of unit.
The next-generation war game simulators need a technique that reuses resources disperse on the web, and reorganizes federates on the fly based on the various events in real time. So far, HLA-based federates limit their interoperability to military networks, and in syntax-level. Web services techniques are widely used in enterprise applications and provide many proven practices to extend interoperability between WAN resources in semantic level. Two problems are met in order to utilize web services into war-game simulator : 1) How to achieve semantic-level interoperability between federates disperse on WAN, 2) How to interoperate web-based federates and RTI-based federates. In this paper, we provide solutions to the problems and highlight advantages using web-based federates with an example of ASuW(Anti-Surface Warfare).
This paper's aim is to suggest the Expert System for analyzing relative combat power in ground operations. Since relative combat power analysis in terms of comparing combat power of friendly forces with one of the enemy can determine how the commander and staffs operate their unit afterwards, it requires fast and rational decision-making process. However, it has relied on manual method so far though Tactical Information Communications Network(TICN) into which numbers of applications can be loaded has been developed over a decade. 3 methods for analyzing relative combat power were expressed as mathematic rules to be used knowledge in the expert system after reviewing previous studies, and it studied how intangible power as well as tangible were reflected on total combat power. The expert system that will be built using EXSYS Corvid tool is expected to lessen error rate, provide faster decision-making, and reflect both intangible combat power and tangible one by using an appropriate weights in analyzing relative combat power. Next research filed includes how to build expert systems related with military personnel and intelligence areas for fast and rational decision-making processes.
In recent years, embedded systems have been expanding their application domains from traditional embedded systems such as military weapons, robots, satellites and digital convergence systems such as celluar phones, PMP(Portable Multimedia Player), PDAs(Personal Digital Assistants) to Next Generation Personal Computers(NGPCs) such as eating PCs, wearable computers. The NGPCs are network-based, human-centric digital information devices diverged from the traditional PCs used mainly for document writing, internet searching and database management. Wearable computers with battery capacity and memory size limitations have to use real-time operating systems with small footprints and low power management techniques to provide user's QoS in spite of hardware constraints. In this paper, we have designed and implemented a low-power RTOS (called eRTOS) for wearable computers. The implemented eRTOS has 18KB footprints and the dynamic power management and the device power management schemes are adapted in it. Experimental results with wearable computer applications show that the low power techniques could save energy up to 47 %.
