With the rapid increase of multicultural families in South Korea due to international marriages and the influx of foreign workers, the number of children from these families enlisting in the military is also rising. It is projected that by 2030, over 10,000 recruits from multicultural backgrounds will join the military annually. This influx can help mitigate the issue of decreasing military resources due to low birth rates and enhance the cultural diversity within the military. However, the lack of multicultural awareness and the presence of discrimination in the military can hinder the well-being of these multicultural soldiers. This study aims to analyze the multicultural phenomenon in the Korean military and explore development strategies to ensure the stable service and healthy military culture for multicultural soldiers. The theoretical background of multiculturalism and diversity in the military is examined, along with the analysis of multicultural military operations in other countries. Management strategies for multicultural soldiers, including leadership and organizational culture innovation, multicultural education and awareness programs, and the establishment of tailored support systems, are proposed. Furthermore, policy recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of multicultural policies in the Korean military are presented. Supporting the successful military service of multicultural soldiers will contribute to the enhancement of military combat power and the acceptance of multiculturalism in Korean society.

This research is aimed at contriving to expand to its base on the research work Military medicine in East Asia by introducing GunjungUihak(means Military medicine) and adding translations and commentaries to it and propagating to academic circles. GunjungUihak is the only technical book on GunjungUihak which was written for the purpose of treating soldiers in time of war. One of the characteristics shown in its prescription is convenience in medical treatment; the writer of GunjungUihak Wangmyeonghak(王鳴學) edited pills and a powdered medicine to be prescribed in large proportions so that they could be used urgently in the situation of battles at a viewpoint of a general while collecting knowledge of medicine. In addition, this book is compiled with a very short edition with one volume and 18 units. Including only a little amount in the book means that it was compiled by extracting only the contents needed in preparation for the wartime emergency, and such a measure was taken for military surgeons to carry it with facility during the time of war. In addition, much weight of this book was given to the diseases caused by environment with which soldiers came in contact in time of combat, not the wounds by the weapons of war as specified from the beginning of the book, which suggests that the environmental factor of the friendly forces was much more threatening than the arms of enemy troops in the situation of a combat. Like this, GunjungUihak is a material of great value in that it is showing a model of the aspects of Military medicine in East Asia at that time even in its fragmentary writings and it has been preserved by Korea.

This study examines implications for the Korean military health survey from literature review on foreign military health surveys. The authors discuss backgrounds, objectives, participants, methods, contents, organizations involved, and cycles of foreign military health surveys from literature review from peer-reviewed journals as well as reports and documents collected from web-sites of governmental organizations. Common and distinguishing characteristics were found from foreign military health surveys. First, the military health surveys have evolved in phases in the direction of reducing health risk factors. Second, the importance of mental health is being emphasized. Third, cooperations and collaborations of governments, universities, and professional agencies are important in order to ensure anonymity and expertise on data collection and analysis. Finally, health surveys are conducted on a regular basis through institutionalization. To monitor and to promote health of military personnel, it is critical for Korea to establish the legal and institutional environment and to recognize the importance as well as the need of military health surveys at the national level.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of the military library services and the factors for promoting the reading of the soldiers and the activation of the use of the library by investigating the perception, use behavior and satisfaction of the library users, and the usefulness of 'JinJung' library collection. For this purpose, we surveyed the users of the Army, Navy, and Air Force military libraries. As a result of the survey, they responded that they were reading to acquire new knowledge and information and to cultivate the education. The favorite reading areas were general fiction, poetry, comic books, martial arts and fantasy novels. In order to encourage the soldiers to read in the military, diversity and quantitative expansion of collections are most needed, and soldiers said they most desire to expand the books on novels, poetry, admissions and employment preparation books. In addition, in order to increase the utilization rate of the military library and the interest in reading, it was necessary to increase the accessibility of the soldiers' library and books to the military, and to increase the library use time.

The purpose of this study is to ponder men's perception and experience of military service revealed in Korean society by looking into the military service exception cases of a Korean male dancer. this study used non-participation observation, in-depth interviews and bibliographic data, etc. targeting a total of 6 persons covering 3 male dances who received military service privileges by winning a prize at home & overseas dance concours, and another 3 male dancers who fulfilled military duties. Then, this study did a qualitative analysis of the collected data. The deducted results through this process are as follows: First, all the surveyed male dancers consented to the necessity of military service as Korean people, but it was found that they wished to get miliary service privileges in order to maintain the career they actually had achieved. Second, the male dancers, who fulfilled military service, were found to make endless effort to catch up with the tendencies of dance suited for the relevant period after returning to society due to career discontinuity and social severance caused in the process of fulfilling military service.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the sixth most common cancer worldwide and the most common form of liver cancer. However, while it is associated frequently with hepatitis C virus (HCV) there is only an elementary understanding of its molecular pathogenesis. Methods: To gain insight into the molecular mechanisms of HCV-induced hepatocarcinogenesis, we performed microarray analysis on 75 surgical liver samples from 48 HCV-infected patients. Results: There were 395 differentially expressed geness between cirrhotic samples and HCC samples. Of these, 125 genes were up-regulated and 270 genes were down-regulated. We performed pathway enrichment analysis and screened as described previously. Conclusions: The differentially expressed genes might be involved in hepatocarcinogenesis through upregulating the pathways of ECM-receptor interaction, focal adhesion, cell adhesion molecules and other cancer-related pathways, and downregulating the pathways of "complement and coagulation cascades". We hope our results could aid in seeking of therapeutic targets for HCV-induced hepatocellular carcinoma.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the sexual desire, sexual attitude and sexual desire coping behavior in military personnel, and analyze relationships among these variables. Methods: Data were collected from February to April, 2015 using a structured questionnaire. Participants in the study were 199 military personnel visiting the military hospital P. Results: The average score for sexual desire was $2.09{\pm}0.59$, for sexual attitude, $3.15{\pm}0.42$, and for sexual desire coping behavior, $3.18{\pm}0.40$. Sexual desire showed a significant difference according to age (F=3.386, p=.023), assignment (F=3.327, p=.038). Sexual attitude was significantly different by religion (F=6.857, p<.001). The sexual desire coping behavior was found to be more active with military service period 5~9 months compared to 11~15 (F=3.621, p=.014) and in private first class compared to rank of private (F=3.165, p=.026). There was a significant positive correlation between sexual desire and sexual behavior, between sexual attitude and sexual desire coping behavior. Conclusion: To prevent sex-related accidents and diseases, it is necessary to provide sexual and health education customized for military personnel. For military personnel to cope appropriately with sexual desire, military personnel need to implement alternate measures such as encouraging soldiers to enjoy hobbies or physical exercise programs.

The study presents milestones for the Korean military to win the future battlefield based on the 4th Industrial Revolution. Chapter 1 deals with the necessity of research on how advanced countries operate industrial technology in the defense sector based on the 4th Industrial Revolution. Chapter 2 examines the current technology status of the 4th Industrial Revolution in Korea and the concept of Korean combat. Chapter 3 analyzes the military robotic technology of advanced military countries through examples of unmanned combat robots in the United States, Israel, and Germany. In the end, in future battles, it will be possible to dominate the battlefield only by taking a leap into a super-connected and super-intelligent military based on a high-tech platform. Our military should also research and develop military robotics in accordance with the characteristics of each combat system, and further expand and develop the concept of combat performance to protect our core capabilities and centers from enemy cyber, electronic warfare, and space attacks.

This paper analyzes the characteristics of various types of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) for military use and how each type can be utilized in military operations. The scope of the study focuses on the structural features, advantages and disadvantages, and military application cases of fixed-wing, rotary-wing, hybrid, and swarm drones. It also discusses the development direction of drone technology, changes in military strategy, opportunities, and challenges. The results show that each type of drone plays a crucial role in various military operations such as reconnaissance, surveillance, strike, logistics, search, and rescue. With advancements in artificial intelligence, autonomous flight, and swarm technologies, the range of drone applications is expected to expand further. However, ensuring the safety and ethics of drone operations and establishing international norms have emerged as major challenges.

This paper analyzes the technological advancements of military drones and their subsequent effects on modern warfare and international relations. It first examines the historical development of military drones and analyzes the key features and advantages of contemporary military drones. The paper then explores the changes in warfare tactics and military strategies brought about by drone technology, along with discussing the legal and ethical issues related to drone usage. Finally, recent war cases and country-specific responses are reviewed to evaluate the current operational status and impact of military drones. This study offers recommendations for the development of drone operations within the South Korean military and addresses the legal and ethical challenges posed by drone warfare on the international stage.
