Recently, the importance of ocean becomes more serious. Thus, we need to construct port structures and instruments safely. Especially, we should understand the diffraction phenomenon of wave in order to construct breakwaters. To simulate diffraction of wave, parabolic mild slope equations are solved using FDM. A breakwater with an open part and an half infinite breakwater are selected for simulation. Diffraction of wave are simulated in the condition of wave angles of attack of $0^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}\;and\l;60^{\circ}$. Diffraction Coefficient and 1)Ampplitude are shown in graphics and compared with results of Penny & Price and Memos.
Samchunpo(Sin Hyang) Harbor is located in the bay of Sa Chun, the central south coast of Korean peninsula. The harbor and coastal boundaries have been protecting by natural coastal islands and shoals. Currently, The Sin Hyang harbor needs maintenance and renovation of the sheltered structures against the weather deterioration and typhoon damages. Consequently to support this, the calculation of accurate design wave through the typhoon wave attack is necessary. In this study, calculation of incident wave condition is simulated using steady state spectrum energy wave model(wide area wave model) from 50 years return wave condition. And this simulation results in wide offshore area were used for the input of the extended mild slope wave model at the narrow coastal area. Finally, the calculation of design wave at Sin Hyang harbor entrance was induced by Boussinesq wave model(detail area wave model) simulation. The numerical model system was able to simulate wave transformations from generation scale to shoreline or harbor impact. We hope these results will be helpful to the engineers doing placement, design, orientation, and evaluation of a wide range of potential solutions in this area.

A wide-angle approximation in the parabolic equation method is presented to calculate wave transformation in the shallow water. The parabolic approximation to the mild-slope equation is obtain-ed by the use of a splitting matrix, which leads to a generalized equation in form. A numerical model based on a finite difference scheme is presented and computational results are provided to test the model against the laboratory measurements of circular and elliptical shoals. The numerical results are in good agreement with most of experimental data. Therefore it can be concluded that the model shows greater capability to reproduce the characteristics of waves in the refractive focus.

In this study, we develop a finite element model to directly solve the Laplace equation while keeping the same computational efficiency as the models based on the extended mild-slope equation which has been widely used for calculation of wave transformation in shallow water. For this, the computational domain is discretized into finite elements with a single layer in the vertical direction. The velocity potential in the element is then expressed in terms of the potentials at the nodes located at water surface, and the Galerkin method is used to construct the numerical model. A common shape function is adopted in horizontal direction, and the cosine hyperbolic function in vertical direction, which describes the vertical behavior of progressive waves. The model was developed for vertical two-dimensional problems. In order to verify the developed model, it is applied to vertical two-dimensional problems of wave reflection and transmission. It is shown that the present finite element model is comparable to the models based on extended mild-slope equations in both computational efficiency and accuracy.

In this study, a method that leads to make a simple decision on important parameters in analysis of wave field in permeable rubble-mound, block-mound breakwater, such as penetration velocity of incident waves and resistance coefficient, is introduced. A model that could analyze wave field of permeable breakwater in harbor, by applying these methods and arbitrary transmission coefficient boundary condition to a time-dependent mild-slope equation, was introduced. The verification of the model was done by carrying out 2-D physical model test on permeable breakwater, measuring the change in water surface elevation, comparing the computation result with time series, and comparing the result gained from the 3-D physical model test on permeable block-mound breakwater in an field harbor with the computation result in terms of regional wave height ratio in a harbor.

The floating breakwater generally has an excellent water exchanging capability, but with some lowering harbor tranquility due to the wave transmission underneath floating body. In the initial stage of design, it is thus required to investigate several alternatives of breakwater layout for their performance of harbor tranquility. The present study aims to formulate a sort of reflection-transmission boundary condition of floating breakwater so that the existing numerical method using time dependent mild slope equation can still be applied to the case of floating breakwaters. The two and three dimensional tests were each performed to demonstrate the performance of the boundary condition. It was found that the reflection and transmission characteristics around the breakwater were well reproduced by the boundary condition. Finally, the reflection-transmission boundary condition were applied to a floating breakwater installed in an imaginary harbor with an irregular shape and bottom topography. The results surely showed that the present numerical method can effectively used in practical works related to the real sea construction of floating breakwaters.

The calmness inside a harbor plays an important role in the appropriate disposition of har-bor structures. However, it is not easy to get the accurate computational results because they are affected by many factors concerning with the wave transformation. Successful solution also depends on determining the boundary values appropriately. This paper presents the numerical model which is able to calculate wave heights inside a harbor It is based upon the time-dependent mild-slope equation involving wave refraction, diffraction, shoaling effect and reflection. In particular, the arbitrary reflectivity is used at the boundary in order to simulate the real harbor reflection condition. This numerical model is applied for Hupo-Harbor and its validities are investgated by comparing with experimental values from the hydraulic model test as well as computational results from Taka-yama's numerical model (1981). It is shown that the model results are in good agreement with results from hydraulic model and Takayama's.

Introduction of wave model, considered the effect of shoaling, refraction, diffraction, partial reflection, bottom friction, breaking at the coastal waters of complex bathymetry, is a very important factor for most coastal engineering design and disaster prevention problems. As waves move from deeper waters to shallow coastal waters, the fundamental wave parameters will change and the wave energy is redistributed along wave crests due to the depth variation, the presence of islands, coastal protection structures, irregularities of the enclosing shore boundaries, and other geological features. Moreover, waves undergo severe change inside the surf zone where wave breaking occurs and in the regions where reflected waves from coastline and structural boundaries interact with the incident waves. Therefore, the application of mild-slope equation model in this field would help for understanding of wave transformation mechanism where many other models could not deal with up to now. The purpose of this study is to form a extended mild-slope equation wave model and make comparison and analysis on variation of harbor responses in the vicinities of Pohang Old Harbor and Pohang New Port, etc. due to construction of New Port in Youngil Bay. This type of trial might be a milestone for port development in macroscale, where the induced impact analysis in the existing port due to the developemnt could be easily neglected.

A mild slope equation of parabolic type is derived with the revision of the 2nd order differential term and a new approach for the application to large area is presented. The replacement with long waves can overcome the numerical difficulty due to small waves over the system of large grid sizes. No matter how long the replaced wave length is, the refraction and shoaling are maintained by toeing its own wave speed and group velocity, respectively. However, the diffraction effect is modified by means of Eikonal equation. The developed numerical model was applied to the shoal of Ito and Tanimoto (1972) to yield the satisfactory results.
In this study, we develop numerical model using the elliptic mild-slope equation for waves propagating around axis-symmetric topographies where the water depth varies arbitrarily having zero at the coastline. The entire region is divided into three regions. In the both of inner and outer regions, an existing analytical solutions are used. In the middle region, the finite element technique is applied to the governing equation. To get the solution, the methods of separation of variables, Frobenius series are used. Developed solution is validated by comparing with previously developed analytical solution. We also investigate various cases with different bottom topographies.
