Fiction is a collection that most students read and borrow in school libraries. KDC has several limitations when students look for fiction books they need. In line with this, we surveyed various cases of fiction classifications used in libraries, bookstores, and publishers and use behaviors of fiction of middle school students. Based upon the result of the surveys, we proposed a better way of classifying fiction books according to user needs. In addition to the KDC number, color bands were attached according to genres so that users could easily find the desired books. These suggestions and other information will enhance the accessibility and discoverability to fiction books for middle school students and may be used as reference materials for fiction classification in libraries, bookstores, and publishers in the future.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the colors in the school libraries and identify the images of adjectives derived from the colors. This study investigated the hue (basic color), value (brightness) and chroma (color intensity) in the school libraries through KSCA program. It analyzed 15 school libraries from elementary schools to high schools. Furthermore, with the aids of I.R.I Adjective Image Scale, the adjective images of the colors could be identified. The results are as follows: In the elementary school libraries, the hue was used in the order of YR (yellow red), N (neutral), and Y (yellow), while in the order of YR (yellow red), N (neutral), and R (red) in the middle school libraries. All the school libraries had medium brightness on average, whereas the colors had a low chroma. As for the adjective images of the colors, the adjective 'gentle' has appeared the most in every school library. The school libraries have similar colors and adjective images for all levels, not presenting any particular differences in the colors of every interior space arrangement.

School library programs are a specific strategy connecting user to resources. Accordingly in order to strengthen school libraries, it is necessary for teacher librarians to develop partnerships that can form relationships between internal and external resources. As a result of analyses of partnerships appeared in current middle school library programs, its most programs are based on the internal reading events. In addition to, classroom teachers and external human resources rarely participate in the program. To improve these problems, it is essential to develop teacher librarians' leadership and collaborative networks fostering educational presence of school libraries in a learning community.

The purpose of this study is to propose a method of calculating the shelves required for the placement of bookshelves in the school library. The study was conducted by visiting 11 school libraries, and current library status was identified according to school levels and major subjects of the Korean Decimal Classification. According to the results of the survey, ideal numbers of arranged volumes are 46.9, 32.3, and 28.4 volumes of books, for elementary, middle, and, high school respectively, which takes up 67 percent of a 90-centimeter-unit bookshelf. However, the more realistic number turned out to be 75%, with 52.8, 36.4, and 32.0 volumes of books for elementary, middle, and high schools, respectively. Based on the results of the survey, a tool was presented to calculate required bookshelves in school libraries. This study is expected to have a positive impact on library operation by making it easier to calculate the bookshelves required for actual placement.

It is necessary to find a genre classification by reflecting the needs of users since a subject that makes up the highest proportion of books in the school library is fictions in literature and KDC cannot accept user's need to access fiction in school libraries. This study suggested the genre classification for fictions in school libraries through surveying classification of fictions in domestic and foreign libraries, and comparing between classification systems of online/offline bookstores, KDC and DDC. For developing the genre classification system, it is to collect genre terms for fictions, to extract 14 genre headings among them, and to assign the acronym of English genre terms as classification notation. For applying the newly developed genre classification, KDC number of one middle school library was converted as the 3 methods such as combination of KDC, genre term before 800 and only genre terms. This study could contribute to suggest the genre classification of fiction to reflect user needs and to overcome the limitation of hierachical classification in KDC.
