  • The purpose of this study was to set up the basic model to monitor the health status of the middle and high school students in the adolescent period, as well as to provide the fundamental data which might serve as the new standards for their better health maintenance and promotion. The collected data comprised the characteristics of the subjects in the three different fields of life such as school, family and everyday, which could affect their physical fatigues, and they were analyzed to determine the factors of significant influence upon their physical fatigues and to reveal their relativity. A total of 5,954 students at 6 boys' and girls' middle and high schools in Taejon City completed self-administered questionnaires(to measure Health Practice Index and others) asking about each of three life domains during the period March through June, 2000. The key study results were as follows; 1. The middle school students showed more subjective symptoms of fatigue which may be a marker reflecting physical health status, than the high school students. The higher scores were associated, based on school life, with the groups who were boys, who were in lower school grades, who achieved better academic performances and had better relationship with friends. 2. As for family life, the higher scores were in the groups whose financial conditions were better, whose parents showed more interest to their children, whose sense of satisfaction with family life was higher, and whose health status was better. 3. As for life styles, the individuals showed the higher scores in the groups who had breakfasts daily, who didn't have inter-meal snacks, who took regular exercises, who didn't smoke and drink than, their counterparts. 4. The higher level of fatigue was associated with the groups whose health conditions were good, who are satisfied with school life, who were boys rather than girls, who are satisfied with family life, who didn't have inter-meal snacks, who were in good relationship with friends, who achieved greater academic performances, who took regular exercises, who didn't smoke, and whose parents showed more interest in their children.

  • The quantification of dry season evaporation in regions, where the magnitude of dry season flows is key to the regional water supply, is essential for good water management. Also, tree transpiration has a significant role in the water balance of a catchment whenever it is tree populated, especially in water limited environments. Such is the case in the Middle Mountains of Nepal where dry season flows play a significant role in downstream water provisioning and their proper functioning is key to the welfare of millions of people. This research seeks to study the transpiration of a pine forest stand in the Jikhu Khola Watershed in the Middle Mountains of Nepal. To the author's knowledge, no single study has been made so far to estimate the dry season evaporation from the planted forest stand in the Middle Mountains of Nepal. The study was carried out in planted pine forest embedded within the Jikhu Khola Catchment. Field campaigns of sap flow measurements were carried out from September, 2010 to February, 2011 in the selected plot of 15*15m dimension, to characterize dry season evaporation. This was done by measuring sap fluxes and sapwood areas over the six trees of different Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) classes. The sap flux was assessed using Granier's thermal dissipation probe (TDP) technique while sapwood area was determined using several incremental core(s) taken with a Pressler borer and immediately dyeing with methyl orange for estimating the actual depth of sapwood area. Transpiration of the plot was estimated by considering the contribution of each tree class. For this purpose, sap flux density, sapwood area and the proportion of total canopy area were determined for each tree class of the selected plot. From these data, hourly and diurnal transpiration rates for the plot were calculated for experimental period. Finally, Cienciala model was parameterized using the data recorded by the ADAS and other terrain data collected in the field. The calibrated model allowed the extrapolation of Sap flux density (v) over a six month period, from September 2010 to February 2011. The model given sap flux density was validated with the measured sap flux density from Grainier method.

  • The middle aged women in their 40s and 50s were the subjects for this study. There were 6 women for the group of complex exercise. There were 6 women for the group of complex exercise and intake of peony beverage. There were 5 women for controlled group. This study compares and analyzes the effect of complex exercise program, in which the subjects exercise 60 minutes a day for three times a week, on the physical structure, inflammation factors and metabolic syndrome of middle aged women. The result is as shown in the following. there were significant difference (p<.001) for fibrinogen of each group in the change of inflammation factors due to regular complex exercise program and intake of peony beverage. But there were not significant difference in the period, period x the effect of groups' interaction. It is believed that there could be polluted variables, as the number of subjects for this study is not enough. So there should be a study that has more subjects to make it more significant.

  • This study attempted to understand the mediating effect of learning time in the effect of academic burnout on self-esteem of middle school students. To this end, a survey of 1,045 middle school students in Gyeongsangnam-do was conducted on academic burnout, learning time, and self-esteem. It was analyzed in four ways through questionnaire responses. First, as a result of analyzing the differences according to the collective characteristics of academic burnout, learning time, and self-esteem, there was no difference between groups, and self-esteem was significantly different by gender and grade. Second, as a result of correlation analysis, academic burnout and learning time showed a negative correlation with self-esteem, and learning time and self-esteem showed a positive correlation. Third, as a result of regression analysis, all learning times were partially mediated in the effect of academic burnout on self-esteem. This not only directly affects the self-esteem of middle school students, but also indirectly through learning time. Fourth, in the analysis by gender, it was confirmed that male students had no statistically significant effect on self-esteem, but female students had a significant statistical effect on self-esteem, so only female students had a partial mediating effect. As a result of the analysis by grade, the effect of learning time on self-esteem was significant in the 1st and 2nd graders of middle school, but the effect of learning time on self-esteem was not significant in the 3rd graders of middle school. Through the survey of this study, it was suggested that education and counseling should be conducted in the middle school period, which is a rapid growth period, considering that academic burnout has a different effect on learning time and self-esteem by grade as well as gender approach.

  • Prepositional stranding (P-Stranding), which was possible only in certain types of constructions in Old English, began to be allowed more freely in the Middle English (ME) period, resulting in many new types of P-Stranding. Although many relevant studies have tried to account for the development of these new P-Stranding types, none of them or no combination of them seem to adequately explain how the new types came into being in ME and why they occurred in the order in which they occurred. In this paper, I explain why the development of new P-Stranding types in Middle English cannot be properly explained by any of the previous studies and then provide an alternative account of the advent of each new type of P-Stranding and the chronology involved on the basis of the displacement of the prepositional object from PP (DPO), a constraint on DPO (DPO), and the subject requirement (SubjR).

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the mechanism involved in predicting the Quality of Life (QOL) of middle.aged Koreans. The QOL was measured by integrating life satisfaction indicators. To accomplish this, a survey data set was drawn from a convenient sample of 670 individuals during the period of January and February 2011. To differentiate the influences from the different life domains, stepwise multiple regressions were attempted. In our results, the SES indicators, personal mental health, physical health, social capital resources from family as well as job places, perceived local government services, and the current living conditions to determine QOL, explained 55% of the total variance. In conclusion, the results of this study demonstrated the complex mechanisms that explain QOL in terms of ecological predictors.
