Syntheses of monodisperse and micron-sized hollow plastic pigment (HPP) were carried out through the core-shell reaction. The effects of the reaction parameters, such as the particle size, molecular weight, the swelling time, agitation rate, and the solid contect were investigated. This micron-sized HPP could be made by using the alkali soluble core with at least bigger than 200 nm size. To obtain a higher opacity ratio, the swelling time and molecular weight of the core should be controlled. The agitation rate affected the particle's morphology. To prevent the shell destruction, the agitation rate must be sufficiently low in case of the syntheses of micron-sized HPP. In this study, micron-sized HPP exhibiting the high hiding power and narrow particle distribution could be obtained.

The micron-sized indium zinc tin oxide (IZTO) particles were prepared by spray pyrolysis from aqueous precursor solution for indium, zinc, and tin and organic additives such as citric acid (CA) and ethylene glycol (EG) were added to aqueous precursor solution for indium, zinc, and tin. The obtained IZTO particles prepared by spray pyrolysis from the aqueous solution without organic additives had spherical and filled morphologies, whereas the IZTO particles obtained with organic additives had more hollow and porous morphologies. The micron-sized IZTO particles with organic additives were changed fully to nano-sized IZTO particles, whereas the micron-sized IZTO particles without organic additives were not changed fully to nano-sized IZTO particle after post-treatment at $700^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours and wet-ball milling for 24 hours. Surface resistances of micron-sized IZTO's before post-heat treatment and wet-ball milling were much higher than those of nano-sized IZTO's after post-heat treatment and wet-ball milling. From IZTO with composition of 80 wt. % $In_2O_3$, 10 wt. % ZnO, and 10 wt. % $SnO_2$ which showed a smallest surface resistance IZTO after post-heat treatment and wet-ball milling, thin films were deposited on glass substrates by pulsed DC magnetron sputtering, and the electrical and optical properties were investigated.

The micron-sized ITO(indium tin oxide) particles were prepared by spray pyrolysis from aqueous precursor solutions for indium, and tin and organic additives solution. Organic additives solution with citric acid(CA) and ethylene glycol(EG) were added to aqueous precursor solution for Indium and Tin. The obtained ITO particles prepared by spray pyrolysis from the aqueous solution without organic additives solution had spherical and filled morphologies whereas the obtained ITO particles with organic additives solution had more hollow and porous morphologies with increasing mole of organic additives. The micron-sized ITO particle with organic additives was changed fully to nano-sized ITO particle whereas the micron-sized ITO particle without organic additives was not changed fully to nano-sized ITO particle after post-treatment at $700^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours and wet-ball milling for 24 hours. The size of primary ITO particle by Debye-Scherrer formula and surface resistance of ITO pellet were measured.
DBD(Dielectric Barrier Discharge) plasma in air is well established for the production of large quantities of ozone and is more recently being applied to aftertreatment processes for HAPs(Hazardous Air Pollutants). Although DBD high electron density and energy, its potential use as nano and sub-micron sized particle charging are not well known. Aim of this work is to determine design and operating parameters of a two-stage ESP with DBD. DBD and ESP are used as particle charger and precipitator, respectively. We measured particle precipitation efficiency of two-stage ESP and estimated ozone decomposition of both pelletized $MnO_2$ catalyst and pelletized activated carbon. To examine the particle precipitation efficiency, nano and sub-micron sized particles were generated by a tube furnace and an atomizer. AC voltage of $7{\sim}10$ kV(rms) and 60 Hz is used as DBD plasma source. DC -8 kV is applied to the ESP for particle precipitation. The overall particle collection efficiency for the two-stage ESP with DBD is over 85 % under 0.64 m/s face velocity. Ozone decomposition efficiency with pelletized $MnO_2$ catalyst or pelletized activated carbon packed bed is over 90 % when the face velocity is under 0.4 m/s in dry air.

Aluminum and boron co-doped zinc-oxide(AZOB) powders as transparent conducting oxide(TCO) were prepared by spray pyrolysis at $900^{\circ}C$. The micron-sized AZOB particles were prepared by spray pyrolysis from aqueous precursor solutions for aluminium, boron, and zinc. The micron-sized AZOB particle after the spray pyrloysis underwent post-heat treatment at $700^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours and it was changed fully to nano-sized AZOB particle by ball milling for 24 hours. The size of primary AZOB particle by Debye-Scherrer Equation and surface resistance of AZOB pellet were measured.

This paper describes the combustion characteristics of aluminized paraffin fuel on the contents of micron-sized aluminum particles with nominal diameters of $8{\mu}m$. Aluminized paraffin fuels with mixture ratio of aluminum 0 wt%, 5 wt% and 10 wt% as fuel and GOx(Gaseous Oxygen) as oxidizer were used to perform the experiments. The experimental investigations were performed on the regression rate, the chamber pressure and the combustion efficiency. Increasing a content of micron-sized aluminum particles, the results of regression rate, chamber pressure and combustion efficiency show minor increase compared to those without particles.
In this paper, we describe new approach of ink particle fabrication method for electrophoretic display(EPD) with low voltage and rapid response time. Nano-size ink particles which fabricated using non-aqueous base modified emulsion process and micron-scale particles by non-solvent particle fabrication process are discussed. Finally, specially designed particles and panel structure fabricated considering the interactions between particle/particle, particle/media or particle/electrode dramatically reduce the driving voltages to ${\pm}$ 10V and improve the response time of less than 100msec and white reflectance of 58% for EPD using dielectric fluid as a medium. In case of EPD adapting micron-sized electrophoretic particles and a medium of air, the saturation voltage could be reduced to ${\pm}$ 40V and having white reflectance of 45% without scarification of electrophoretic mobility of the particles.
In CO2 laser surface machining of plastic films in modern display manufacturing, scattering of fume particles could be a major source of well-recognized film surface contamination. This computational fluid dynamics research investigates the suction air flow patterns over a film surface as well as the dispersion of micron-sized fume particles with low-Reynolds number particle drag model. The numerical results show the recirculatory flow patterns near laser machining point on film surface and also over the surface of vertical suction slot, which may hinder the efficient removal of fume particles from film surface. The dispersion characteristics of fume particles with various particle size have been tested systematically under different levels of suction flow intensity. It is found that suction removal efficiency of fume particles heavily depends on the particle size in highly nonlinear manners and a higher degree of suction does not always results in more efficient particle removal.
In this study, a wet-sampler was developed for collection in water and simultaneous fractionation of micron-sized particles (e.g., pigment, airborne, etc.). In this new device, three cylinders (partially filled with water) through which air was forced to pass for sample collection are connected in a series. Particles of different sizes are collected in different cylinders, allowing simultaneous fractionation. An uniqueness of this new device is that it does not use any membrane filter. Microparticles are collected directly in cylinders filled partially with water. Also the particles are simultaneously fractionated within this device while they are being collected. The new device was employed for collection of airborne particles. The collected airborne particles were fractionated by using sedimentation field-flow fractionation, SdFFF), and observed with an optical microscopy (OM) for size and shape analysis. Also AAS and ICP-AES were used for composition analysis of the airborne particles. It is expected that the new device is applicable to collection and analysis of size distribution of various types of microparticles.
Electrophoretic displays (EPDs) are attracting considerable attentions as a paper-like display. Especially, Electrophoretic cell consists of micron-sized, charged particles dispersed in a viscous fluid. When an external electric field is applied, the charged particles move with a speed proportional to the particle mobility and the local field strength. In electrophoretic displays fast switching times are required, so knowing the particle mobility is very important. In this paper, we study a novel simulation for calculating the particle motions submerged in a viscous fluid for horizontal switching electrophoretic cell.
