We injection molded a plate with micro surface features including micro prizms & micro channels patterns on its surface and investigated the replication of the micro features depending on the mold temperature which is one of typical process parameters. The size of the patterns were 8um, 10um, 15um of prizm features & 15um, 30um, 45um of channel features. The size of the plate is about $400mm{\times}400mm$ and the thickness is 1mm of plate. the repliction of the mucro features turned out to depend on the mold temperature and also the location on the plate. The pressure and the feature of the melt in the cavity were also measured in real-time for the investigation on the micro feature replication.
This work investigates a novel plate formulation and a modified couple stress theory that introduces a variable length scale parameter is presented to discuss the static and dynamic of functionally graded (FG) micro-plates. A new type of third-order shear deformation theory of Reddy that use only 4 unknowns by including undetermined integral variables is proposed in this study. The equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's principle. Analytical solutions are obtained for a simply supported micro-plate. Numerical examples are presented to examine the effect of the length scale parameter on the responses of micro-plates. The obtained results are compared with the previously published results to demonstrate the correctness of the present formulation.

Recent issue of optical actuator is applying to mobile device. It leads actuator to become smaller than conventional type. This paper proposes the design of micro actuator plate spring and analysis of its vibration characteristic. Considering natural frequency of spindle motor, 1st and 2nd eigenfrequency of micro actuator must avoid its natural frequency. First, magnetic circuit is designed by using fine pattern coil and magnetic force is acquired by simulation program. Then, concept design is achieved by topology optimization. From concept design, micro actuator plate spring is embodied through DOE(design of experiment). Finally, considering vibration characteristic simultaneously, optimal plate spring design is determined by RSM(response surface method).

This paper presents the design and fabrication of backflow prevented Micropump using the metal membrane. The Micropump is consisted of the lower plate, metal membrane, upper plate and the piezoelectric-element. The lower plate includes the micro channel and the inlet, outlet of the Micropump. The upper plate includes the micro channel and connects the piezoelectric-element. These plate are fabricated on the Pyrex glass wafer by sandblasting process. The metal membrane does roll of check valve that is prevented backflow of the Micropump. The metal membrane is fabricated on the stainless steel by laser machining. Piezoelectric-element is actuated the Micropump and controlled flowing of fluid. The Micropump is fabricated by bonding process of these multi-layer.

In micro hole punching process, it is very difficult to align punch with die hole. Misalignment can cause a falling-on in hole quality and breakage of punch and die. Micro punching using soft die plate without a die hole has a big advantage because it is not necessary to align punch with die hole and to consider die clearance. Soft die plates are made by polymers or hard rubbers which are softer than metals. In this study, several micro punching experiments are conducted. Micro punching test with some materials shows that micro hole punching is feasible with some soft die plates. Through the section shape obtained by mounting and polishing, the punched hole quality is measured and the shapes of burr and dome we studied.
In the present study, effects of degree of confinement on heat transfer characteristics of a micro-scale slot jet impinging on a heated flat plate are experimentally investigated. The effects of Reynolds numbers (Re = $1000{\sim}5000$), lateral distances (x/B = $1{\sim}10$), nozzle-to-plate spacings (Z/B = $1{\sim}20$), and degree of confinement ($B_c$/B = 3, 48) on the Nusselt number are considered. The results show that the effects of the degree of confinement on the cooling performance of the micro-scale impinging slot jet are significant at lower nozzle-to-plate spacings and higher Reynolds numbers. In addition, it is shown that the cooling performance of the micro-scale unconfined slot impinging jet is 200% higher than that of the micro-scale confined slot impinging jet.
Turbulent structure of a boundary-layer over a flat plate coated with micro riblet film(MRF) has been investigated experimentally. The turbulent structure was visualized using a dynamic particle image velocimetry (Dynamic PIV) system. We identified the vortex structures from 2-D velocity field data by applying the complex eigenvalue definition. The velocity field images acquired by using the complex eigenvalue definition showed the whole 2-D vortex structures clearly. In addition, the spatial distributions of small-scale vortices as well as large-scale vortices were obtained with high accuracy. The difference of vortex structures between the MRF coated flat plate and the smooth flat plate was analysed in detail. With varying upstream flow speed, the characteristics of vortex structure over the MRF coated flate plate was compared with those over the smooth flat plate.
Micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) are widely employed in sensors, biomedical devices, optic sectors, and micro-accelerometers. New reinforcement materials such as carbon nanotubes as well as graphene platelets provide stiffer structures with controllable mechanical specifications by changing the graphene platelet features. This paper deals with buckling analyses of functionally graded graphene platelets micro plates with two piezoelectric layers subjected to external applied voltage. Governing equations are based on Kirchhoff plate theory assumptions beside the modified couple stress theory to incorporate the micro scale influences. A uniform temperature change and external electric field are regarded along the micro plate thickness. Moreover, an external in-plane mechanical load is uniformly distributed along the micro plate edges. The Hamilton's principle is employed to extract the governing equations. The material properties of each composite layer reinforced with graphene platelets of the considered micro plate are evaluated by the Halpin-Tsai micromechanical model. The governing equations are solved by the Navier's approach for the case of simply-supported boundary condition. The effects of the external applied voltage, the material length scale parameter, the thickness of the piezoelectric layers, the side, the length and the weight fraction of the graphene platelets as well as the graphene platelets distribution pattern on the critical buckling temperature change and on the critical buckling in-plane load are investigated. The outcomes illustrate the reduction of the thermal buckling strength independent of the graphene platelets distribution pattern while meanwhile the mechanical buckling strength is promoted. Furthermore, a negative voltage, -50 Volt, strengthens the micro plate stability against the thermal buckling occurrence about 9% while a positive voltage, 50 Volt, decreases the critical buckling load about 9% independent of the graphene platelet distribution pattern.

In piercing operation for small hole in very thin plate, micro burrs are formed. The micro burr is very difficult to remove because the thin plate is to be deformed during deburring and deteriorate accuracy. As a first step to remove the micro burrs effectively, the burr must be measured accurately as much as possible. For most micro burrs are so small as less than 10$\mu\textrm{m}$, it is very difficult to measure. Several methods are reviewed to measure the micro burr formed in piercing operation from very thin plate with thickness less than 0.1mm. Also the effective deburring methods are reviewed. Barreling ultrasonic and chemical deburring methods are performed and the results are compared.

The paper represents the design and fabrication of an electrostatic micro actuator with $p^+$,/TEX> Si cantilevers. The micro actuator consists of a plate suspended by four $p^+$,/TEX> silicon cantilevers and an electrode on a glass substrate. The $p^+$,/TEX> Si structure is fabricated by the boron diffusion process and the anisotropic wet etch process. The cantilevers of the micro actuator curl down because of the residual stress gradient in $p^+$,/TEX> silicon. When the electrostatic forec is applied to the $p^+$,/TEX> cantilevers, the vertical displacement of the plate can be achieved. The deflection of the cantilever due to the residual stress gradient and the vertical displacement by electrostatic force were calculated. The displacement of the plate was measured with a laser displacement meter for various input voltages and frequencies. The feasibility of the proposed micro actuator for the applications to optical pickup devices or optical communication devices was confirmed by the experiments.
