Densification occurs by the inelastic flow of the matrix materials during the consolidation processes at high temperature for MMCs, and the results depend on many process conditions such as applied pressure, temperature and volume fraction of fiber and matrix materials. This is particularly important in titanium matrix composites since material failure may occur by either the applied conditions or microstructural parameters through the processes, and thus a generic model based on micro-mechanical approaches enabling the evolution of density over time to be predicted has been developed. The mode developed is then implemented into FEM so that practical process simulation has been carried out. Further the experimental investigation of the consolidation behavior of SiC/Ti-6Al-4V composites using vacuum hot pressing has been performed, and the results obtained are compared with the model predictions.

The purpose of this study was to compare the comfort sensation depending on four different kinds of denim blue jeans: cotton, cotton/tencel, tencel, cotton/pp. The objective and subjective experiments were conducted to measure the comfort of blue jeans. To investigate the objective comfort, physical properties related to thermal insulation, moisture properties and hand were measured. For subjective comfort measurement, 5 healthy female college students were taken as subjects. The outcomes of the experiments are as follows: The higher the air permeability and bulk density of the denim, the lower the thermal insulation, the thicker the denim, the higher the thermal insulation. Tencel blending denim showed the higher bulk density, the lower air contents, and consequently the lower thermal insulation than the other denims. Tencel showed the highest moisture regain, and cotton/tencel blend showed the highest water vapor permeability. Tencel denim had relatively better flexibility, shape stability and elastic recovery than the other denims. The total hand values of the denims by KES-FB system were not significantly different. Cotton and cotton/pp denims raised the subjects body temperature after excercise more than tencel or cotton/tencel denims. Average skin temperature was found to have a correlation with micro climate temperature and micro climate humidity. The correlation coefficients were 0.749 and 0.767, respectively. However, average skin temperatures were not significantly different among the materials. Pulse rate was found to be the highest when wearing cotton/pp and the lowest in case of cotton/tencel denim. The energy was consumed in order of cotton>cotton/pp>tencel>cotton/tencel. There was no significant difference in preference before excercise, but, after the excercise, the order of preference changed as the following; cotton/tencel>tencel>cotton/pp>cotton.

SiC materials have been extensively studied for high temperature components in advanced energy system and advanced gas turbine. However, the brittle characteristics of SiC such as low fracture toughness and low strain-to fracture still impose a severe limitation on practical applications of SiC materials. For these reasons, $SiC_f/SiC$ composites can be considered as a promising for various structural materials, because of their good fracture toughness compared with monolithic SiC ceramics. But, high temperature and pressure lead to the degradation of the reinforcing fiber during the hot pressing. Therefore, reduction of sintering temperature and pressure is key requirements for the fabrication of $SiC_f/SiC$ composites by hot pressing method. In the present work, Monolithic LPS-SiC was fabricated by hot pressing method in Ar atmosphere at 1760 $^{\circ}C$, 1780 $^{\circ}C$, 1800 $^{\circ}C$ and 1820 $^{\circ}C$ under 20 MPa using $Al_2O_3-Y_2O_3$ system as sintering additives in order to low sintering temperature. The starting powder was high purity ${\beta}-SiC$ nano-powder with an average particle size of 30 nm. Monolithic LPS-SiC was evaluated in terms of sintering density, micro-structure, flexural strength, elastic modulus and so on. Sintered density, flexural strength and elastic modulus of fabricated LPS-SiC increased with increasing the sintering temperature. In the micro-structure of this specimen, it was found that grain of sintered body was grown from 30 nm to 200 nm.
In this paper, we modeled the incident beam in order to analyze and evaluate the optical thin film device for wavelength division multiplexing in optical telecommunication network. As applied ray tracing method to the optical path, we were compared the accuracy of coupling efficiency simulated by two modeling methods. In the results of sinulation, ceil modeling method was preferred to annual modeling method in micro-optic device because of accuracy for coupling efficiency and Gaussian intensity distribution. In the results of optimal simulation for optical device using thin film filter, the distance (d1) between optical fiber and GRIN lens, the distance (d2) between GRIN lens and thin film filter and the coupling efficiency were 0.24 mm, 0.25 mm and -0.11 ㏈ respectively. As d2 was displaced at 0.25 mm and d1 was varied in order to evaluate the optimal value, d1 and maximum coupling efficiency were 0.24 mm and -0.35㏈, respectively. Then the results of experiment were corresponded to that of optimal simulation by cell modeling and it was possible to analyze the performance for optical device using thin film filter by the simulation.
Bicycle riders complain of many inconveniences when wearing glasses, sunglasses and masks. The disposable fine dust mask has been developed to resolve such inconveniences of bicycle riders. The scope of research is limited to the fiber which generates one-time static electricity and the shape of the mask due to the characteristic of fine dust mask. The purpose is to design and make the fine dust mask with a simple production process. The new disposable fine dust mask has secured enough space of the mask in front of the mouth by longitudinal folding and minimized stuffiness by maintaining the shape of the folded part to prevent touching the mouth even by heavy breathing. The streamlined sponge is attached at the part of nose support and the area of the cheek has been expanded to be about 2.5cm wider than ordinary masks to improve tight seal at the side. In addition, a new disposable fine dust scarf mask has been developed to block ultraviolet rays for the face and neck while filtering fine dust with the tight fine dust mask.
In this paper, parametric study was carried out to design sandwich structures for EDM machines controlling stacking sequence, stacking thickness of composites and rib configuration. Sandwich structures which are dealt with in this paper are composed of fibre reinforced composite for skin material and foam or resin concrete for core materials. The sandwich column has cruciform rib to enhance bending stiffness of the structure and the bed has several vertical ribs to resist the normal forces and vibration. The design parameters such as rib thickness and stacking sequence were controlled to enhance the system robustness. Finite element analysis was also carried out to verify the variation of static and dynamic stiffness of the structures according to the variation of the parameters. Vibration tests were performed to verify the natural frequencies and damping ratios of the manufactured composite structures. The appropriate shape and configuration conditions for micro-EDM machine structures are proposed.

In this study, finite element modeling of unidirectional composite materials of the computed tomography (CT) was conducted using a supervised learning-based segmentation technique. Firstly, Micro-CT scan was performed to obtain the raw volume of unidirectional composite materials, providing microstructure information. From the CT volume images, actual microstructure of the cross-section of unidirectional composite materials was extracted by the labeling process. Then, a U-net deep learning model was trained with a small number of raw images as inputs and their labeled images as outputs to generate a segmentation model. Subsequently, most of remaining images were input to the trained U-net deep learning model to segment all raw volume for identifying complex microstructure, which was used for the generation of finite element model. Finally, the fiber volume fraction of the finite element model was compared with that of experimentally measured volume to validate the appropriateness of the proposed method.
In this work, the coal tar pitch-based activated carbons (ACs) were prepared by KOH activation for electrode materials of supercapacitor. The effects of activation temperature on electrochemical performance of the ACs were investigated with cyclic voltammogram (CV) measurement. The textural and morphological properties of the ACs were measured by adsorption isotherms and field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) analyses, respectively. The experimental results indicated that the specific capacitance of the ACs increased with developing the micropore volume by activation temperature. As a result the specific capacitance of the ACs increased, owing to the development of micro pore volume of the ACs.
ECC is a micro-mechanically designed cementitious composite which exhibits tightly controlled crack width and strain hardening behavior in uniaxial tension while using a moderate amount of reinforcing fiber, typically less than 2% fiber volume fraction. Recently, a variety of applications of this material ranging from repair and retrofit of structures, cast-in-place structures, to precast structural elements requiring high ductility are developed. In the present study, a retrofitting method using ECC reinforced with high strength rebar was proposed to enhance load-carrying capacity and crack control performance of deteriorated reinforced concrete (RC) beams. Six beam specimens were designed and tested under a four-point loading setup. The flexural test revealed that load-carrying capacity and crack control performance were significantly enhanced by the use of ECC and high strength rebar. This result will be useful for practical field applications of the proposed retrofitting method.

OXI-PAN fibers, Kynol fibers and rayon fibers were used as precursorsfor the preparation of activated carbon fibers (ACFs) by chemical activation with KOH at $800^{\circ}C$. The effects of different precursorfibers and fiber/KOH ratios on the final ACFs are discussed. The precursor fibers used are appropriate for the ACFs in a single stage pyrolysis process. The OXI-PAN fibers which were activated with KOH of 2.0M showed a specific surface area of $2328m^2/g$ however, loosed the fiber shape because of low yields. The Kynol fibers and Rayon fibers showed the high yields but the lower specific surface area of $900m^2/g$ and $774m^2/g$, respectively, at KOH of 1.5M. The OXI-PAN fibers which were activated with KOH of 1.5M have a specific surface area of $1028m^2/g$ and higher micro-pore volumes and lower yields rather than Kynol-1.5 and Rayon-1.5 samples. This phenomenon is because of higher chemical resistance of the Kynol and Rayon fibers rather than OXI-PAN fibers. However, the Kynol fibers were the best precursors on KOH activation at $800^{\circ}C$ considered carbon yields, surface areas and micropore volumes.
