Recently, various researchers have studied alkali-activated concrete that do cementless as the binder. This study analyzed the effect on cementless mortar by flay ash and blast furnace slag of blast slag as the binder with no use of cement, by observing compressive strength and micro-structure.

Recently, construction materials have been guickly advancing. Especially, the rate of development of cement based construction materials is much quicker than steel or composite materials. In order to optimize the ductility and strength of cement based materials, Micro-Mechanics based fiber concrete called Engineered Cement Composite (ECC) has been developed and studied extensively by many researchers in the field due to ECC's remarkable flexural strain and strength capacities, many leading nation (i.e., US, Japan and European countries have reached the point of being able to use ECC in actual constructions. But, due to the belated interest in the field, Korea is lagging behind the leading countries. ECC's ability to use its short fibers to bridge micro-cracks (50-80㎛ in width) allows great ductility and strength. ,In this study, ECC with superior material capacities are manufactured using domestic materials such as cement, silica sand, metal cellulose, etc. Using only domestic products, the optimal W/C ratio and mixing procedures are determined.

Grouting internally with grout materials can repair the micro-cracks and micro-voids of construction joints more efficiently than injecting grouts from the surface of cracks. A new internal grouting method using perforated bundled-cables was developed in this study to enhance the structural integrity of the construction joints. The extensive experiments were performed to examine the mechanical behavior of construction joints which are repaired internally by the developed method. The tests were conducted for rectangular-shaped box wall structures and straight wall structures. The strength and permeability tests at grouted construction joints were conducted to evaluate the structural behavior of repaired construction joints. The present study indicates that the internal grouting method developed in this study enhances greatly the performance of construction joints and may be efficiently used for the leak-tight integrity of construction joints in concrete structures.

Recently, it is certain that the increase of heating and cooling energy consumption by radical change in climate condition has caused serious problems related to environmental and energy concerns associated with increase of fossil fuel usage and carbon dioxide production as well as global warming. Therefore, various actions to reduce greenhouse gas and energy consumption have been prepared by world developed countries. The energy consumption by buildings approximately reaches 25% of total korea energy consumption. The greatest part in the buildings of the energy consumption is building facade. But a few research projects on concrete comprising more than 70% of outsider of buildings has been tried. This research is structural insulation concrete what improved insulation performance using micro form admixture and calcined diatomite powder and lightweight aggregate.

In underground reinforced concrete structures, such as drainage structure, water and chloride ion penetrated into concrete through the cracks of concrete and its permeable property, cause the corrosion of reinforcing steel bar, which accelerates the expansive cracks and deterioration of concrete. It is necessary to control those deterioration of underground structure by improving its permeability and durability through the reasonable solutions in design, construction and materials. In the present study, fly ash concrete, which has good material properties in long-term period, was compared and studied with plain concrete using ordinary portland cement in terms of fundamental mechanical properties, permeability, drying shrinkage and durability. Also, the mix design and field test of low permeable concrete using fly ash were performed. From this study, fly ash concrete can control the penetration of water and chloride ion effectively by forming dense micro-structure of concrete. Therefore, fly ash concrete may increase the long-term function, performance and serviceability of underground structures.

In the present paper computational simulation of a concrete dam is performed to determine the effect of vertical ground motions on earthquake response of concrete dams. Cyclic and dynamic versions of the plastic-damage model proposed by Lee and Fenves are used to represent micro-crack development and crack opening/closing, which is important mechanism in nonlinear damage analysis of concrete structures subject to strong earthquake loading. The result shows that the vertical component of ground motion effects on final crack patterns and consequently, on displacement response.

Recently, Trouble of sand supply is occurred according to exhaustion of natural sand resources. therefore, various measures are proposed for solution of trouble of sand supply and crushed sand among measures is used as one of most universal measures. but because crushed sand have poor particle shape and plenty of makes micro particle, the quality of concrete using crushed sand deteriorated. Therefore, this study evaluated engineering property of concrete with replacement ratio of crushed sand and applied evaluation result to fundamental data for quality control of concrete using crushed sand. The result of this study have shown that quality of concrete using crushed sand independently is poor against general concrete. but, the concrete mixing crushed sand with general sand can be similar in workability of concrete used general sand and increase compressive strength of concrete as against concrete using general sand.

The objective of this study is to obtain characteristics of early age pore-structure and carbonation of concrete using ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS). The durability of GGBFS concrete should be evaluated for wide use of the GGBFS. As for that evaluation, an analysis on early age pore-structure characteristics of GGBFS concrete are very important, Carbonation depths of GGBFS concrete, which are known to be larger than that of OPC, are different according to replacement ratios and fineness of slag. Because sea sand as fine aggregate is much used recently, it is also necessary to analyze characteristics of carbonation of GGBFS concrete. In this study, The micro-pore structure formation characteristics of GGBFS concrete are obtained through the test of GGBFS mortars with different fineness and replacement ratio of GGBFS. The carbonation of GGBFS concrete is also investigated by acclerated carbonation test for early age GGBFS concrete.
The application of multi-variable adaptive regression spline (MARS) in predicting he long-term compressive strength of a concrete with various admixtures has been investigated in this study. The compressive strength of concrete specimens, which were made based on 24 different mix designs using various mineral and chemical admixtures in different curing ages have been obtained. First, The values of fly ash (FA), micro-silica (MS), water-reducing admixture (WRA), coarse and fine aggregates, cement, water, age of samples and compressive strength were defined as inputs to the model, and MARS analysis was used to model the compressive strength of concrete and to evaluate the most important parameters affecting the estimation of compressive strength of the concrete. Next, the proposed equation by the MARS method using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm has been optimized to have more efficient equation from the economical point of view. The proposed model in this study predicted the compressive strength of the concrete with various admixtures with a correlation coefficient of R=0.958 rather than the measured compressive strengths within the laboratory. The final model reduced the production cost and provided compressive strength by reducing the WRA and increasing the FA and curing days, simultaneously. It was also found that due to the use of the liquid membrane-forming compounds (LMFC) for its lower cost than water spraying method (SWM) and also for the longer operating time of the LMFC having positive mechanical effects on the final concrete, the final product had lower cost and better mechanical properties.
