Effects of Sublethal Doses of Chlorpyrifos-methyl on the Following Generation of the Beet Armyworm, Spodoptera exigus (Hubner) (아치사량의 chlorpyrifos-methyl이 파밤나방(Spodoptera exigua(Hubner)) 차세대형성에 미치는 영향)

  • Chemosterilant effect of chlorpyrifos-methyl (CPM) on the beet armyworm, Spodoptera e.rigua (Hubner) was investigated, using topical application. Egg fecundity and fertility were analyzed in the adults reared from the fifth instar larvae which were treated with sublethal doses of CPM. Though CPM reduced fecundity a little, it gave significant negative effect on egg fertility in a dose-dependent manner. Genetic analysis was performed by reciprocal crosses between treated (100 Wgllarva) and untreated individuals and showed a dominant lethal effect of CPM on egg fecundity and fertility. This results indicate that chlorpyrifos-methyl may act as a chemosterilant as well as a well-known neurotoxicant, and suggest that it can be used in genetic control program.

  • This study was performed with Hartmann type dust explosion apparatus and Godbert-Greenwald furnace apparatus in order to research the effect of temperature and humidity affecting LEL, minimum ignition temperature of Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose. The experimental determinations in the range between $20^{\circ}C\;and\;60^{\circ}C$ of temperature was not affected $LEL(180g/m^3)$ but LEL showed $200g/m^3\;and\;250g/m^3\;at\;80^{|circ}C\;and\;100^{\circ}C$. As the change of humidity LEL was $180g/m^3\;for\;50\%,\;200g/m^3\;for\;60\%\;and\;250g/m^3\;for\;70\%$ but dust explosion didn't occur over $80\%$. The ignition temperature of HPMC dust clouds was increased as increasing of humidity. So, the minimum ignition temperatures at $50\%,\;60\%,\;70\%\;80\%$ of humidity was $363^{\circ}C,\;375^{\circ}C,\;397^{\circ}C,\;405^{\circ}C$.

  • Green mustard leves were found to effectively prevent lipid peroxidation of bovine-brain tissue by ascor-bate/Fe system, The 50% methanol extracts mustard leaves were separated into four solvent faction using n-hexane,. EtOAc, n-BiOH and water. Then n-BiOH fraction exclusively exhibited the antioxidative activities at concentration above 100 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mL/ The n-BuOH fraction was further isolated to a single compound using TLC analysis and silica gel chromatography. The active antiodidative compounds were identified as sinapic acid methyl ester and ferulic acid methyl ester by $^{1}$H-NMR and $^{13}$ C-NMR, The sinapic acid methyl ester and ferulic acid methyl ester were prepared by methylating of sinapic acid and ferulic acid with diazomethane. The results strongly suggested that sinapic acid and ferulic acid could be emplyed as a potential antioxiative agents for preventing the bovine brain lipid peroxidation. lipid peroxidation.

Volatile Flavor Components in Mash of Takju prepared by using Aspergillus oryzae Nuruks. (Aspergillus oryzae 누룩으로 담금한 탁주 술덧의 발효 과정 중 휘발성 향기성분)

  • Volatile flavor components in the mash of Takjus prepared by using Aspergillus oryzae nuruk were identified by using Gas Chromatography and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. Twenty-four esters, 21 alcohols, 10 acids, 9 aldehydes and 4 others were found in the mash of Takju. Thirty six components including 13 esters and 12 alcohols were detected in the beginning of fermentation. Twenty nine components were more detected after second day of fermentation and 68 components were detected after 12 days of fermentation. Thirty five flavor components including 12 alcohols such as ethanol, 2-methyl-1-propanol, 3-methyl-1-butanol and benzeneethanol, 13 esters such as ethyl acetate, ethyl caprylate, ethyl butyrate and isoamyl acetate, 4 aldehydes and 6 acids were usually detected in the fermentation process. Ethanol was predominantly found in the range of $79.86{\sim}89.54%$ as a major component by using relative peak area. 3-Methyl-1-butanol, ethyl caprylate and benzeneethanol were some of the major volatile components through the fermentation respectively. Peak area of 2-methyl-1-propanol, 1-hexanol, 1-dodecanol, ethyl acetate, monoethyl butanoate, acetic acid and isobutylaldehyde among the same group were higher than other components depending upon fermentation time.

Changes of Volatile Flavor Compounds in Traditional Kochujang during Fermentation (재래식고추장 숙성과정 중의 휘발성 향기성분의 특성)

  • Volatile flavor components of kochujang made from a glutinuous rice by traditional method were analyzed by using purge and trap method during fermentation, and identified with GC-MSD. Fifty-one volatile components including 19 alcohols, 13 esters, 7 acids, 3 aldehydes, 1 alkanes, 2 ketones, 2 amines, 1 benzene, 1 alkene, 1 phenol and others were found in kochujang made by traditional method. The number of volatile components detected immediately after making kochujang were 22 and increased to 41 components after 30 day of fermentation. The most number 51 of volatile components were found after 120 day of fermentation. Twenty-two volatile components were commonly found through the fermentation period such as acetic acid ethyl ester, ethanol, butanoic acid ethyl ester, 1-butanol, 2-methyl-1-propanol, 3-methyl-1-butanol, butanoic acid and ethenone. Peak area(%) of 1-butanol was the highest one among the volatile components at immediately after mashing while ethanol showed the highest peak area after 30 day of fermentation. Although the various types of peak areas of volatile components were shown in kochujang during the fermentation days, acetic acid-ethyl ester, ethanol, butanoic acid-ethyl ester, 1-butanol, 3-methyl-1-butanol and 2-methyl-1-propanol were mainly detected during fermentation. Those might be the major volatile components in kochujang made by traditional method.

  • N-Alkylcarbazole-3-vinylene-2-methyl-4-dicyanomethylene-4H-pyran derivatives were synthesized by dehydration, $S_N2$, Vilsmeier, and Knoevenagel condensation. They are red-emitting materials for organic light emitting device (OLED) composed of electron donor of N-alkylcabazole-3-vinylene groups and electron acceptor of 2-methyl-4-dicyanomethylene-4H-pyran groups by a conjugated structure. The structural properties of reaction products were analyzed FT-IR and $^1H-NMR$ spectroscopy. The thermal stabilities and reactivities were measured by melting points and yields. The UV-visibles and PL properties can be determined by exitation spectra and emission spectra, respectively.

  • The electrochemical properties of 9-methyl-2,3,6,7-tetramethoxyfluorene have been investigated by cyclic voltammetry in acetonitrile, dichloromethane, trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and trifluoroacetic acid anhydride (TFAn). The first charge transfer for the compound in $CH_3CN$ appeared to be a quasi-reversible one-electron step. The second oxidation step from cation to dication was irreversible. However, the oxdition of the compound in a mixture of solvents containing $CH_2Cl_2$, TFA and TFAn was reversible for both the first and second charge transfer reactions. Since the electrolytic products display a darkblue color and can be stabilized in the solvent mixture, they may be used as an electrochromic material.

Antimutagenic Effects of Methyl Alcohol Extracts from Auricularia auricula and Gyrophora esculenta (목이 및 석이 메틸 알콜 추출물의 항돌연변이원성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the antimutagenic effects of methyl alcohol extracts from Auricularia auricula and Gyrophora esculenta on the SOS response induced by 4-nitroquinoline-1-oxide (4NQO), N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG), mitomycin C (MMC) and 3-amino-1,4- dimethyl-5H-pyrido-[4,3-b]indol (Trp-P-1) in E. coli PQ37/plasmid pKM101. In the mutagenic test on test strain, both methyl alcohol extracts did not show mutagenic activity. In the antimutagenic test, each sample strongly inhibited the mutagenecity induced by 4NQO, MNNG, MMC and Trp-P-1. Methyl alcohol extracts from Auricularia auricula and Gyrophora esculenta showed inhibitory effects of 52% and 59% against 4NQO, 49% and 58% against MNNG, 53% and 64% against MMC, and 61% and 64% against Trp-P-1, respectively. Gyrophora esculenta extracts on the antimutagenicity showed relatively higher inhibitory effects than that of Auricularia auricula.

  • 5-Alkyl-2(3H)-benzofuranones(3a-e) were prepared from Friedel-Crafts reaction of 4-alkylphenols with methyl 2-chloro-2-(methylthio)acetae(1) followed by the treatment of zinc du st-acetic acid. The reaction of disubstituted phenols with 1 in the presence of stannic chloride afforded 3-methyltWa-2(3H)-benzofuranone derivatives(11a-c), which were readily converted into 2(3H)-benzofuranone derivatives(12a-c) by desulfurization with zinc dust-acetic acid.
