Eight different data sets are examined in order to gain insight into the surface heat flux traits of the East Asian marginal seas. In the case of solar radiation of the East Sea (Japan Sea), Coordinated Ocean-ice Reference Experiments ver. 2 (CORE2) and the Objectively Analyzed Air-Sea Fluxes (OAFlux) are similar to the observed data at meteorological stations. A combination is sought by averaging these as well as the Climate Forecast System Reanalysis (CFSR) and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP)-1 data to acquire more accurate surface heat flux for the East Asian marginal seas. According to the Combination Data, the annual averages of net heat flux of the East Sea, Yellow Sea, and East China Sea are -61.84, -22.42, and $-97.54Wm^{-2}$, respectively. The Kuroshio area to the south of Japan and the southern East Sea were found to have the largest upward annual mean net heat flux during winter, at -460- -300 and at $-370--300Wm^{-2}$, respectively. The long-term fluctuation (1984-2004) of the net heat flux shows a trend of increasing transport of heat from the ocean into the atmosphere throughout the study area.

Products developed in this research is a software which can transfer the type of shape(.shp) into the type of ascii using the land cover data and the topography data in the metropolitan area of Seoul. In addition, it can calculate the $CO_2$ flux according to distribution of plants within the land cover data. The $CO_2$ flux is calculated by the experimental equation which is compose of the meteorological parameters such as the solar radiation and the air temperature. The net flux was shown in about $-19ton/km^2$ by removing $CO_2$ through the photosynthesis during daytime, and in 2 ton/km2 by producing it through the respiration during nighttime on 10 August 2004, the maximum day of air temperature during the period of 3yr(2001 to 2004), in the metropolitan area of Seoul. Spatial distribution of the air temperature and the wind field is simulated by substituting the middle classification of the land cover map data, upgraded by the Korean Ministry of Environment(KME), for the land-use data of the United States Geological Survey(USGS) within the Meteorological Mesoscale Model Version 5(MM5) on 10 August 2006 in the metropolitan area of Seoul. Difference of the air temperature between both data was shown in the maximum range of $-2^{\circ}C\;to\;2.9^{\circ}C$, and the air temperature due to the land use data of KME was higher than that of USGS in average $0.4^{\circ}C$. Also, those of wind vectors were meanly lower than that of USGS in daytime and nighttime. Furthermore, the hourly time series of Volatile Organic Components(VOCs) is calculated by using the Biosphere Emission and Interaction System Version 2(BEIS2) including the new land cover data and the meteorological parameters such as the air temperature and so]ar insolation. It is possible to calculate the concentration of ozone due to the biogenic emission of VOCs.
We investigate the solar flare occurrence rate and daily flare probability in terms of the sunspot classification supplemented with sunspot area and its changes. For this we use the NOAA active region data and GOES solar flare data for 15 years (from January 1996 to December 2010). We consider the most flare-productive eleven sunspot classes in the McIntosh sunspot group classification. Sunspot area and its changes can be a proxy of magnetic flux and its emergence/cancellation, respectively. We classify each sunspot group into two sub-groups by its area: "Large" and "Small". In addition, for each group, we classify it into three sub-groups according to sunspot area changes: "Decrease", "Steady", and "Increase". As a result, in the case of compact groups, their flare occurrence rates and daily flare probabilities noticeably increase with sunspot group area. We also find that the flare occurrence rates and daily flare probabilities for the "Increase" sub-groups are noticeably higher than those for the other sub-groups. In case of the (M+X)-class flares in the 'Dkc' group, the flare occurrence rate of the "Increase" sub-group is three times higher than that of the "Steady" sub-group. Our results statistically demonstrate that magnetic flux and its emergence enhance the occurrence of major solar flares.
Micrometeorlogical and upper air observation have been conducted in order to determine the atmospheric boundary layer depth based on data from satellite and automatic weather systems. Terra/MODIS temperature profiles and sensible heat fluxes from the gradient method were used to estimate the mixed layer height over a coastal region. Results of the integral model were in good agreement with the mixed layer height observed using GPS radiosonde at Wolsung ($35.72^{\circ}N$, $129.48^{\circ}E$). Since the variation of the mixed layer height depends on the surface sensible heat flux, the integral model estimated properly the mixed layer height in the daytime. The buoyant heat flux, which is more important than the sensible heat flux in the coastal region, must be taken into consideration to improve the integral model. The vertical structure of atmospheric boundary layer can be analyzed only with the routine data and the satellite data.

Spatial heterogeneous characteristics of solar radiation energy from Climate Change gives rise to energy imbalance in the general ecological system including water resources. To understand energy flow, flux towers are up and running throughout the world. In step with, in domestic major areas, there have been observed using several flux towers. In this study, downward shortwave radiation, downward long wave radiation, and net radiation that take important part in hydro-meteorology and ecology were calculated by proposed physical equations using flux data of the Seolmacheon and Choengmicheon, then, the calculated net radiation and observed net radiation were individually compared and validated. The results confirmed applicability of physical methods for insufficient hydro-meteorological data and possibility for observed data of hydro-meteorological variables.

The standardization of eddy-covariance data processing is essential for the analysis and synthesis of vast amount of data being accumulated through continuous observations in various flux measurement networks. End users eventually benefit from the open and transparent standardization protocol by clear understanding of final products such as evapotranspiration and gross primary productivity. In this paper, we briefly introduced KoFlux efforts to standardize data processing methodologies and then estimated uncertainties of surface fluxes due to different processing methods. Based on our scrutiny of the data observed at Gwangneung KoFlux site, net ecosystem exchange and ecosystem respiration were sensitive to the selection of different processing methods. Gross primary production, however, was consistent within errors due to cancellation of the differences in NEE and Re, emphasizing that independent observation of ecosystem respiration is required for accurate estimates of carbon exchange. Nocturnal soil evaporation was small and thus the annually integrated evapotranspiration was not sensitive to the selection of different data processing methods. The implementation of such standardized data processing protocol to AsiaFlux will enable the establishment of consistent database for validation of models of carbon cycle, dynamic vegetation, and land-atmosphere interaction at regional scale.
Japanese Ocean Flux Data Sets with Use of Remote Sensing Observations (J-OFURO) includes global ocean surface heat flux data derived from satellite data and are used in many studies related to air-sea interaction. Recently latent heat flux data version 2 was constructed in J-OFURO. In version 2 many points are improved compared with version 1. A bulk algorithm used for estimation of latent heat flux is changed from Kondo (1975) to COASRE 3.0(Fairall et al., 2005). In version 1 we used NCEP reanalysis data (Reynolds and Smith, 1994) as SST data. However, the temporal resolution of the data is weekly and considerably low. Recently there are many kinds of global SST data because we can obtain SST data using a microwave radiometer sensor such as TRMM/MI and Aqua/AMSR-E. Therefore, we compared many SST products and determined to use Merged satellite and in situ data Global Daily (MGD) SST provided by Japan Meteorological Agency. Since we use wind speed and specific humidity data derived from one DMSP/SSMI sensor in J-OFURO, we obtain two data at most one day. Therefore, there may be large sampling errors for the daily-mean value. In order to escape this problem, multi-satellite data are used in version 2. As a result we could improve temporal resolution from 3-days mean value in version 1 to daily-mean value in version 2. Also we used an Optimum Interpolation method to estimate wind speed and specific humidity data instead of a simple mean method. Finally the data period is extended to 1989-2004. In this presentation we will introduce latent heat flux data version 2 in J-OFURO and comparison results with other surface latent heat flux data such as GSSTF2 and HOAPS etc. Moreover, we will present validation results by using buoy data.
We have investigated the seasonal characteristics of surface turbulent fluxes observed at Ieodo Ocean Research Station from 2005 to 2006. Both 10Hz and 30 minutes flux data are quality controled, and tilt correction is performed in 10Hz data before quality control. The turbulent fluxes of open sea shows clear seasonal variations, though diurnal variations are barely shown. The seasonal ratio of stable and unstable conditions are closely related to the temperature difference between sea surface and air. In stable and semi-stable condition, latent and sensible heat fluxes have very small values without any relationship with wind speed. Though friction velocity shows slightly increasing trend with wind speed, it has many outliers. In unstable condition, turbulent fluxes increased with wind speed. Especially, latent heat flux increased rapidly during DJF. The latent heat flux at high wind speeds is more scatter.

The energy balance of the surface layer of the water (the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea and the East Sea) was examined using satellite data. Variations of the net heat flux were similar to those of the latent heat flux which was more intensive than the sensible heat flux. The sensible heat flux was affected the difference between the sea surface temperature and the air temperature and was less important over the Yellow Sea. The maximum of the latent heat flux occurred in autumn when the air is drier and the wind is stronger. The shortwave radiation flux decreased with the latitude and depended on the cloudiness as the longwave radiation flux does. Annual variations of heat fluxes show that the latent heat flux was more intensive over the East China Sea than the East Sea and the Yellow Sea, while the spatial differences of the other heat fluxes were weak.
Surface heat balance of the northern sea of Cheju Island for summer in 1993 and 1994 is analyzed using the observation data obtained by Marine Research Institute, Cheju National University. Each flux elements at the sea surface is derived from the marine meteorological reports with application of an aerodynamical bulk method for the turbulent heat fluxes, and empirical formulae for the long-wave radiation heat fluxes. The flux divergence of oceanic heat transport and the rate of heat storage in the ocean are estimated as residual. The features of the surface heat balance are mainly decided by the solar radiation flux and the latent heat flux for 199B. But the Bowen Ratios were large for 1993. This means that the sensible heat fluxes were nearly equal to the latent heat fluxes for 1993. In this period, mean flux divergence of oceanic heat transport is about 130 W/$m^2$.
