The effect of tetragonal $ZrO_2$ phase on the mechanical behavior in 7 mole% calcia partially stabilized zirconia has been studied. The $ZrO_2$ powder containg 7 mole% CaO prepared by Hot Petroleum Drying Method calcined at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour was nearly 100% tetragonal but as the calcining temperature increased certain amount of monoclinic phase appeared. The sintered specimen at 1$700^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours was aged at 130$0^{\circ}C$ for 0, 24, 48, 72 hours. X-ray diffraction data showed that in the aged specimen monoclinic tetragonal and cubic phase coexisted. The Kc value of aged specimen for 48 hr was about 4.5MN/m3/2 much greater than unaged sample. But aged for 72 hr the KiC value was decreased. The increasing of toughness in PSZ is based on the Stress-Induced Phase Transformation that is metastable tetra-gonal $ZrO_2$ changes t stable monoclinic phase within the stress field of crack and the mechanical fracture energy absorption is occured But in this case due to certain amount of tetragonal phase transformed to monoclinic phase during cooling the microcrack effect by transformation also considered. Trerefore both Stress-Induced Phase Transformation and inclusion induced microcracking effect contrbute to the increase of fracture toughness of 7 mole% CaO-$ZrO_2$ containing monoclinic and tetragnola phase simulataneously.
Titanium alloys are the one of promising candidate materials for medium high temperature parts in the aircraft, automobile, petrochemistry and electrochemistry because of their high strength with low density in medium high temperature. In this study, the effects of aging and heat treatments on the mechanical properties of Ti-15-3 alloy in medium high temperature, which was $400^{\circ}C$, were studied. Solid solution treatment was performed at $8000^{\circ}C$ of $\beta$ phase region for 1 h and the alloy was quenched in water. The alloy was aged at $5000^{\circ}C$ of $\alpha$ and $\beta$ two-phase region for 1, 2, 4, 8, ... and 100 h to increase the mechanical property. The $\beta$ single phase was observed at all parts of specimens in Ti-15-3 alloy after ST. As the aging at $500^{\circ}C$, fine precipitates of a phase was generated from matrix of $\beta$ phase and the microstructure was consisted of weaving structure such as Widmanstiitten a phase. The most suitable aging time is 24h in$ 400^{\circ}C$. At this time, strength is 1164 MPa and elongation is about 12%. In room temperature, elongation of Ti-15-3 alloy aged at $500^{\circ}C$ for 16 h is poor (=3%) in spite of high tensile strength (1458 MPa).
The changes of weight gain, structure, morphology and uranium oxidation states in l0wt% G $d_2$$O_3$-doped U $O_2$ during the oxidation below 475$^{\circ}C$ and heat treatment at 130$0^{\circ}C$ in air were investigated using TGA, XRD, SEM, EPMA and XPS. The room temperature ( $U_{0.86}$G $d_{0.14}$) $O_2$Cubic Phase Converted to highly distorted ( $U_{0.86}$G $d_{0.14}$)$_3$$O_{8}$ -type sing1e Phase by oxidation at 475 $^{\circ}C$ in air. This oxidized phase was reduced by annealing at 130$0^{\circ}C$ in air. The room temperature XRD pattern of the 130$0^{\circ}C$ annealed powder revealed that ( $U_{0.86}$G $d_{0.14}$)$_3$$O_{8}$ -type single phase was separated into Gd-depleted $U_3$$O_{8}$ and Gd-enriched ( $U_{0.7}$G $d_{0.3}$) $O_2$$_{+x}$ type cubic phase. The reduction and phase separation by the high temperature annealing of kinetically metastable and highly deformed ( $U_{0.86}$G $d_{0.14}$)$_3$$O_{8}$ -type phase are interpreted in terms of cation size difference between G $d^3$$^{+}$ and U according to the oxidation state of U.U.U.U.U.te of U.U.U.U.U.
Microstructural analysis of a (${\alpha}+{\beta}$) Ti alloy was investigated to consider phase transformation in each step of the thermo-mechanical process using by SEM and TEM EDS. The TAF (Ti-6Al-4Fe) alloy was thermo-mechanically treated with solid solution at $880^{\circ}C$, rolling at $880^{\circ}C$ and annealing at $800^{\circ}C$. In the STQ state, the TAF microstructure was composed of a normal hcp ${\alpha}$ and metastable ${\beta}$ phase. In a rolled state, it was composed of fine B2 precipitates in an ${\alpha}$ phase, which had high Fe segregation and a coherent relationship with the ${\beta}$ matrix. Finally, in the annealing state, the fine B2 precipitates had disappeared in the ${\alpha}$ phase and had gone to the boundary of the ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ phase. On the other hand, in a lower rolling temperature of $704^{\circ}C$, the B2 precipitates were more coarse in both the ${\alpha}$ and the boundary of ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ phase. We concluded that microstructural change affects the mechanical properties of formability including rolling defects and cracks.
From Zr(O-nC3H7)4-H2O-C2H5OH-HNO3 starting solutions, MgO-doped stabilized zirconia fibers with varying content of MgO (10~18 mol%) from different MgO sources were fabricated by sol-gel method. The MgO sources used are magnesium nitrate hexahydrate, magnesium acetate tetrahydrate, and magnesium ethylate. The phase transformation studies of a drawn MgO-ZrO2 fiber were carried out using X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. The microstructure, tensile strength, and microporosity of fibers were investigated using SEM, tensile strength test, and microporosimeter. Although various MgO sources such as magnesium nitrate, acetate, and ethylate were used, the crystallization behavior of MgO-ZrO2 fibers at different temperatures could be summarized as follows: CubiclongrightarrowMetastable TetragonallongrightarrowMonocliniclongrightarrowCoexistence of Monoclinic and CubiclongrightarrowCubic(trace of monoclinic). At 150$0^{\circ}C$, the phase transformation of MgO-ZrO2 fibers shows the following change depending on the amount of MgO[Mg(NO3)2.6H2O]: At 10 mol%, both monoclinic and cubic phase coexist, at 12 mol%, monoclinic phase decreases rapidly, and then at 14 mol%, only cubic phase remains. When the MgO-ZrO2 fibers containing 12 mol% magnesium nitrate were heated at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hr, average tensile strength of fibers is 4.0 GPa at diameters of 20 to 30 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. As the heat-treatment temperatures increase to 100$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr, tensile strength of MgO-ZrO2 fibers decreases rapidly to 0.7 GPa.
Poly(ethylene-co-vinylacetate)(EVA) microspheres were prepared by a thermally induced phase separation. The microsphere formation occurred by the nucleation and growth mechanism in the metastable region. The diluents used were toluene. The microsphere formation and growth was followed by the cloud point of the optical microscope measurement. The microsphere size, which was obtained by SEM observation and particle size analyzer, became decreased when the titanium dioxide($TiO_2$) concentration was higher. The deodorizing function of the prepared fabrics was studied by the determination of the decomposing capability for $NH_3$. The deodorant activity of these deodorizing fabrics was measured by chromogenic gas detector tubes. The deodorant activity of $NH_3$ increased with increasing $TiO_2$ concentration of EVA microsphere.
This study was carried out to synthesis the zeolite using the bituminous coal fly ash emitted from power plant that occurs several environmental problems. In spite of fly ash has contained high content of $SiO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$, it disposed mainly landfill. If the effective methods to recover the $SiO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$ were developed, the fly ash could be utilized valuable raw materials. In this study, fly ash was used as raw material to synthesize the zeolite by pressurized hydrothermal reaction. Also, experimental parameters included temperature($70{\sim}110^{\circ}C$, and pressure($140{\sim}200$ psi) of crystallization were investigated. The more crystallization pressure was increased, the more Zeolite 4A was synthesized at 70 and $90^{\circ}C$. Zeolite 4A of metastable phase tend to be transformed into sodalite of stable phase at $110^{\circ}C$.
The nitrification of pure iron powders is found to occur even at room temperature by high energy ball milling in $NH_3$ gas atmosphere. The powders of metastable iron nitrides ($0<at.%N{\le}23.3$) thus produced are identified as the super-saturated bee structure for the N content below 14.9 at.%N and the high temperature phase of the hcp structure above 19.4 at.%N. The atomic volume of Fe in the bcc phase is found to be smaller than that of the N-martensite reported in the literature. Magnetization at room temperature gradually decreases with increasing the N concentration in contrast to the enhancement reported for the bet nitrides. Neutron diffraction experiment also provide detailed information about the local structure surrounding the nitrogen atom. The coordination number of Fe atom around a nitrogen atom for the iron nitride containing 9.5 at.%N turns out to be 3.9 atoms.
Poly(ethylene-co-vinylacetate) (EVA) microspheres were prepared by thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) in toluene. The microsphere formation occurred by the nucleation and growth mechanism in metastable region. The effects of the concentration and component of the polymer and cooling rate on microsphere formation were investigated. The microsphere formation and growth were followed by the cloud point of the optical microscope measurement. The microsphere size distribution, which was obtained by particle size analyzer, became broader when the polymer concentration was higher, the content of vinyl acetate in EVA copolymer was higher, the cooling rate of EVA copolymer solution were lower. The content of disperse dye in EVA microsphere was obtained by TGA thermal analysis, the dye content of EVA15 and EVA18 were 3.5 and 2.0 wt% respectively.
