SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction) is a major after-treatment solution to reduce NOx emission in recent diesel engines. In this study, a metal foam is applied as an alternative SCR substrate and tested in a commercial diesel engine to compared with a conventional ceramic SCR system. Basic engine test from ND-13 mode shows that a metal foam catalyst has lower NOx conversion efficiency than a ceramic catalyst especially over $350^{\circ}C$. A metal foam catalyst has characteristics of high exhaust gas pressure before a SCR catalyst and high heat transfer rate due to its material and structure. NOx conversion efficiency of a metal foam catalyst shows an increasing tendency along with the increase of exhaust gas temperature by $500^{\circ}C$. The effect of urea injection quantity variation is also remarkable only at high exhaust gas temperature.
Tetraaza Schiff base macrocyclic ligands, $L^1$,$L^2$ and their transition metal chelates have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, electronic, EPR and $^1H$ NMR spectra, TGA and magnetic measurements. The molar conductance of one milli-molar solution of the complexes measured in DMF indicates that the divalent metal complexes are nonelectrolyte while those of trivalent metal ion, are 1:1 electrolytic in the same solvent. The reduction of Racah parameter from the free ion value confirms the presence of considerable covalence of metal ligand sigma bond in the Co(II) and Mn(II) complexes. The EPR spectra of Cu(II) complexes at room temperature shows axial symmetry indicating a $d_x{^2}_{-y}{^2}$ ground state with significant covalent character. The thermal analysis suggests that the complexes do not contain water molecules because only the metal is left as residue.
This study investigated the tri-metallic galvanic coupling of different metals in the tubes, fillers, and fins of a heat exchanger. The goal was to prevent corrosion of the tubes using the fin as a sacrificial anode while ensuring that the filler metal has a more noble potential than the fin, to avoid detachment. The metals were arranged in descending order of corrosion potential, with the noblest potential assigned to the tube, followed by the filler metal and the fin. To address a reduction in protection current of the fin, the filler metal was modified by adding Zn to decrease its corrosion potential. However, increasing the Zn content of filler metal also increases its corrosion current. The study examined three different filler metals, considering their corrosion potential, and kinetics. The results suggest that a filler metal with 1.5 wt.% Zn addition is optimal for providing cathodic protection to the tube while reducing the reaction rate of the sacrificial anode.
A series of non-free hydride reducing systems containing boron or aluminum atom, which possess no metal-hydride bond but an available hydrogen at a branched ${\beta}$-position, has been applied to the selective reduction (chemo--, regio-, and stereoselective reduction) of organic compounds. The systems, comprised of diisopinocampheylborane and diisobutylalane derivatives, exhibited almost perfect selectivities in the reduction of aldehydes and ketones. The characteristics features of this systems leading to a perfect transformation have been depicted in this report, especially in the 1) Reduction of ${\alpha}$,${\beta}$-Unsaturated Carbonyl Compounds to Allylic Alcohols via 1,2-Reduction, 2) Chemoselective Reduction between Structurally Different Carbonyl Compounds, and 3) Stereoselective Reduction of Cyclic Ketones.
Nitrous oxide ($N_2O$), known as one of the major greenhouse gases, is an important component of the earth's atmosphere, and gives rise to precursor of acid rain and photochemical smog. For the removal of $N_2O$ and other nitrogen oxides, the SCR reaction system with various reductants is widely used. This study is based on the results of experimental and theoretical examinations on the catalytic decomposition of sole nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) and selective catalytic reduction of $N_2O$ with $CH_4$ in the presence of oxygen using mixed metal oxide catalysts obtained from hydrolatcite-type precursors. When $CH_4$ is fed together with a reductant, it affects positively on the $N_2O$ decomposition activity. At an optimum ratio of $CH_4$ to $O_2$ mole ratio, the $N_2O$ conversion activity is enhanced on the SCR reaction with partial oxidation of methane.

The three-reactor chemical-looping process (TRCL) for the production of hydrogen from natural gas is attractive for both $CO_2$ capture and hydrogen production. In this study, redox property of $Fe_2O_3$ and $WO_3$ supported with $ZrO_2$ and $MgAl_2O_4$ were studied with temperature programmed oxidation/reduction (TPO/R) experiment. All metal oxides were prepared by ball mill method. Metal oxides supported with $ZrO_2$ showed the good redox property in TPO and TPR tests. Reduction behavior was matched well the theoretical reduction mechanism. Metal oxides supported with $MgAl_2O_4$ formed a solid solution ($MgFe_{0.6}Al_{1.4}O_4$, $MgWO_4$). $Fe_2O_3$ showed more narrow reaction range and lower reaction temperature than $WO_3$.
Characteristics of hydrocarbon selective catalytic reduction of NOx using various noble metal catalysts were investigated. The best active metal is Pt, supports are $CeO_2$ and $TiO_2$ by strong interactions between active metals, and 55% of conversion rate of NOx is shown. Pd, Rh and Ag catalysts presented a conversion of less than 20% as active metals, and supports also showed the poor activity compared to $SiO_2$ and $ZrO_2$. Experiments were performed with different types of reducing agents, amount, concentration of oxygen and space velocity in order to investigate the performance of catalysts according to operating conditions. The results confirm that the methane is better than propane as a reducing agent, and as the ratio of methane/nitrogen oxide increases, the catalytic activity increased, as the concentration of oxygen increases and space velocity decreases, the performance of catalysts increased.
Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells, which convert the chemical reaction energy of hydrogen into electric power directly, are a type of eco-friendly power for future vehicles. Due to the sluggish oxygen reduction reaction and costly Pt catalyst in the cathode, the research related to the replacement of Pt-based catalysts has been vitally carried out. In this case, however, the performance is significantly different from each other and a variety of factors have existed. In this review paper, we rearrange and summarize relevant papers published within 5 years approximately. The selection of precursors, synthesis method, and co-catalyst are represented as a core factor, while the necessity of research for the further enhancement of activity may be raised. It can be anticipated to contribute to the replacement of precious metal catalysts in the various fields of study. The final objective of the future research is depicted in detail.

In this study, we investigated the noble metal catalysts for HCHO removal at room temperature. These catalysts were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, CO-chemisorption. As a result, Pt and Pd based catalysts prepared by the reduction treatment showed the superior HCHO oxidation ability at room temperature. When the catalysts were prepared using $TiO_2$ support, which is well known as the reducing support, showed the superior activity. Also, the activity decreased by the agglomeration of active metal with increasing the reduction time. In case of reduction catalysts, it has been confirmed that the desorption and adsorption ability properties of HCHO is excellent at room temperature.

Background: The open reduction of craniofacial bone fractures requires internal fixation using metal plates and screws, which have been considered the gold standard. However, metal implants pose a risk of palpation, protrusion, and foreign body reaction, and they may require an additional operation for removal. Recently, good results have been reported for absorbable implants which complement the disadvantages of metal implants. This study presents the results of using absorbable mesh, plates, and screws with cyanoacrylate for more accurate and firmer fixation of comminuted fractures of the maxilla. Methods: In total, 235 patients underwent operations for comminuted fractures of the maxilla. From January 2012 to December 2014, absorbable mesh and screws were used in 114 patients, while from January 2015 to December 2017, absorbable mesh, plates, and screws with cyanoacrylate were used in 121 patients. Open reduction of the bone fragments was performed, after which absorbable implants were accurately molded and fixed by screws. Results: All patients underwent postoperative computed tomography scans, which showed highly accurate reduction and firm fixation in the patients who underwent procedures using absorbable implants, screws, and cyanoacrylate. There were no postoperative complications or cases of abnormal facial contour. Conclusion: When absorbable implants and screws are used for maxillary fractures, no additional surgery to remove the metal plate is required. In addition, the use of cyanoacrylate enables accurate and firm fixation of the tiny bone fragments that cannot be fixed with screws.
