Biofuel production using lignocellulosic biomass is gaining attention because it can be substituted for fossil fuels without competing with edible resources. However, because Saccharomyces cerevisiae does not have a ${\text\tiny{D}}$-xylose metabolic pathway, oxidoreductase or isomerase pathways must be introduced to utilize ${\text\tiny{D}}$-xylose from lignocellulosic biomass in S. cerevisiae. To elucidate the biochemical properties of xylose isomerase (XI) from Piromyces sp. E2 (PsXI), we determine its crystal structure in complex with substrate mimic glycerol. An amino-acid sequence comparison with other reported XIs and relative activity measurements using five kinds of divalent metal ions confirmed that PsXI belongs to class II XIs. Moreover kinetic analysis of PsXI was also performed using $Mn^{2+}$, the preferred divalent metal ion for PsXI. In addition, the substrate-binding mode of PsXI could be predicted with the substrate mimic glycerol bound to the active site. These studies may provide structural information to enhance ${\text\tiny{D}}$-xylose utilization for biofuel production.

It is indispensable to modern society metal processing since the industrialized rapidly, but it is a metalworking cutting fluid immediately. In addition, this means selecting a emulsion on the basis of quality criteria processing method, the material of the material, cutting depth, cutting speed, Djourou fence Liang, and surface roughness, cutting oil, the shape of the device based on the emulsion, I will be the structure of the tank, filtration equipment also changes. In particular, acting bacteria is now breeding in response to the passage of time due to metal ion degradation due to heat generated hydraulic fluid leakage, humidity tung, during processing, seep from processing material at the time of processing the water-soluble cutting oil for generating the malodor by dropping significantly the performance of the cutting oil to corruption from, sometimes by introducing various additives to suppress spoilage in advance. In this study, we expect the effect of the cost reduction in the extension of fluid replacement cycle through the application of the management apparatus and deep understanding in the management of cutting fluid, the working environment through the understanding and interest of workers in the production site more than anything I try to become useful for the improvement.
For the austenitic stainless steel (304L) manufactured by metal injection molding(MIM), the effects of copper content and sintering temperature on the mechanical properties, antibacterial activities, corrosion resistance, and electric resistances were investigated. The specimens were prepared by injection molding of the premixed powders of water-atomized 304 L and Cu with poly-acetyl binders. The green compacts were prepared with various copper contents from 0 to 10 wt.% Cu, which were debound thermally at 873 K for 7.2 ks in $N_2$gas atmosphere and subsequently sintered at various temperatures from 1323 K to 1623 K for 7.2 ks in Ar gas atmosphere. The relative density and tensile strength of the sintered compacts showed the minimum values at 5 and 8 wt.% Cu, respectively. Both the relative density and the tensile strength of the specimen with 10 wt.% Cu sintered at 1373 K showed the highest values, higher than those of copper-free specimen. Antibacterial activities investigated by the plastic film contact printing method for bacilli and the quantitative analysis of copper ion dissolved in water increased as the increase of the copper content to stainless steels. It was also verified by the measurement of pitting potential that the copper addition in 304 L could improve the corrosion resistance. Furthermore the electric conductivity increased with the increase of copper content.

A seawater pipe of the engine room in the ships is being surrounded with severely corrosive environments caused by fast flowing of the seawater, containing aggressive chloride ion and high conductivity etc.. Therefore, the leakage of the seawater from its pipe have been often occurred due to its local corrosion by aggressive chloride ions. Subsequently, its leakage area is usually welded by AC shielded metal arc welding with various electrodes. In this study, when the sea water pipe is welded with several types of electrodes such as E4301, E4311, E4313 and E4316, a difference of the corrosion resistance on the welding metal zones was investigated using an electrochemical method, observing microstructure, measuring polarization behaviors and hardness. The weld metal zone welded with E4313 electrode exhibited the lowest value of hardness compared to other weld metal zones. In addition, its zone indicated also the best corrosion resistance than those of other weld metal zones. Furthermore, all of the weld metal zones revealed a relatively better corrosion resistance than those of the base metal zones. and also showed higher hardness than the base metal zones.
Lithium is the lightest metal and the first metal in the periodic table. Lithium is used in a variety of applications, including the production of organolithium compounds, as an alloying addition to aluminum and magnesium, and as the anode in rechargeable lithium ion batteries especially for electronic devices and electric vehicles. Therefore, lithium is indispensable metal in our daily lives. The use of lithium continues to rise and has increased from about 14,000 tonnes per year worldwide in the 2000 to about 82,200 tonnes in the 2000. However, lithium is a representative rare metal and ranks 32nd among the abundant elements in the earth's crust. This study reviews the current status of the lithium extraction processes as well as the trend in production amount and use. Lithium is extracted by a various methods depending on the type of resources. These extraction methods are essential for the development of new recycling processes that can extract lithium from secondary lithium resources.
Activities of the $F_1-ATPase$ purified from Lentinus edodes were stimulated by $Fe^{3+},\;Fe^{2+},\;Cd^{2+},\;Mg^{2+},\;K^{+}\;and\;Co^{2+}$ but were inhibited by $Zn^{2+},\;Ca^{2+},\;Cu^{2+}\;and\;Ni{2+}$ ion. The enzyme activities were increased 130, 65, 65, 68, 105% and 23% by the 5mM $Fe^{3+}$, 10 mM$Fe^{2+}$, 1mM $Cd^{2+}$, 5mM $Mg^{2+}$, 5mM $K^{+}$ and 5mM$Co^{2+}$ ion addition, respectively, as compared with those not added. The enzyme activities were decreased 18, 19, 27 and 30% by 10 mM $Zn^{2+}$, 10mM $Ca^{2+}$, 0.5 mM $Cu^{2+}$ and 10 mM $Ni^{2+}$ ion, respectively. Anion effects of 10 mM ${Co_3}^{2-}$, 20 mM,$CN^{-}$ 20 mM$CH_3COO^{-}$ and 20 mM ${NO_3}^{-}$ ion were inhibited to the enzyme activities of 98, 95, 70 and 50%, respectively. As increasing of ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ion concentration, the enzyme activity was stimulated and 20 mM ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ion was shown increased of 21%.
Ion effects on $11{\alpha}-hydroxylation$ of progesterone and $5{\alpha}-reduction\;of\;11{\alpha}-hydroxyprogesterone$ by Rhizopus nigricans were investigated. Metal ions such as $Cu^{2+},\;Cd^{2+},\;Co^{2+},\;Mn^{2+},\;Zn^{2+},\;Fe^{2+},\;Mg^{2+},\;Fe^{3+}\;and\;Na^+$ reduced the $11{\alpha}-hydroxylation$ activity, while $K^+$ stimulated the same reaction. Enzyme activity for the $5{\alpha}-reduction$ of $11{\alpha}-hydroxyprogesterone$ was increased in the presence of $Fe^{2+},\;Mn^{2+},\;Mg^{2+},\;Co^{2+},\;Zn^{2+},\;Fe^{3+},\;K^+\;and\;Na^+$, whereas it was decreased in the presence of $Cd^{2+}\;and\;Cu^{2+}$. Potassium ion of $10^{-3}\;M\;$ of concentration was found to be effective for the promotion of $11{\alpha}-hydroxylation$. On the other hand, cadmium ion of $10^{-4}\;M$ was proved to suppress the $5{\alpha}-reduction$ reaction. Progesterone is reported to be transformed into $11{\alpha}-hydroxyprogesterone$ which, in turn, is converted further into $11{\alpha}-hydroxy-allopregnane-3$, 20-dione by R. nigricans. From this point of view, the highest yield of $11{\alpha}-hydroxyprogesterone$ could be obtained when potassium ion of $10^{-3}\;M$ was given initially followed by addition of cadmium ion of $10^{-4}\;M$ to limit conversion of 11{\alpha}-hydroxyprogesterone into $11{\alpha}-hydroxy-allopregnane-\;3$, 20-dione.

The Al etching was studied employing negative ions generated in the downstream $Cl_2$ plasma. In order to etch the Al film practically on an insulator covered electrode coupled with RF power, reduction of the negative self bias voltage (Vdc) was examined using a magnetic filter which trapped electrons. Addition of $SF_6$ and $H_2$ to a $Cl_2/BCl_3$ mixture reduced significantly Vdc.

In electropolishing, the ion from the surface of the metal is eliminated by means of an electrical potential and current. Electropolishing is being generally known as a replacement for mechanical finishing. In addition to making a surface smoother, it is a more visible means of brightening, deburring, cleaning, stress-relieving and improving the physical characteristics of most metals and alloys. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to investigate the characteristic of electropolishing STS304 and A12024 in terms of current density, polishing time and electrode gap, etc.
