폐금속 광산지역 토양 중 중금속 농도와 주민의 혈액 및 요중 중금속 농도와의 관련성 (Relationship between Heavy Metal Concentrations in the Soil with the Blood and Urine of Residents around Abandoned Metal Mines)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted in order to examine the relationship between heavy metal concentrations in the soil and the level of heavy metals in the blood or urine of 216 local residents living near abandoned metal mines. Methods: Residents around abandoned metal mines were interviewed about their dietary habits, including seafood consumption, medical history, cigarette smoking, and drug history. Metal concentrations in the soil were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AA-7000, Shimadzu, Japan). Lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) contents in the blood or urine were analyzed by GF-AAS (AA-6800, Shimadzu). Mercury (Hg) contents in the blood were determined by means of a mercury analyzer (SP-3DS, NIC). Arsenic (As) content in the soil and urine were measured by a HG-AAS (hydride vapor generation-atomic absorption spectrophotometer). Results: The heavy metal concentrations in the soil showed a log normal distribution and the geometric means of the four villages were 8.61 mg/kg for Pb, 0.19 mg/kg for Cd, 1.81 mg/kg for As and 0.035 mg/kg for Hg. The heavy metal levels of the 216 local residents showed a regular distribution for Pb, Cd, Hg in the blood and As in the urine. The arithmetic means were 3.37 ${\mu}g$/dl for Pb, 3.07 ${\mu}g$/l for Cd and 2.32 ${\mu}g$/l for Hg, 10.41 ${\mu}g$/l for As, respectively. Conclusions: As a result of multi-variate analysis for the affecting factors on the bodily heavy metal concentrations, gender and concentration in the soil (each, p<0.01) for blood lead levels; gender and smoking status (each, p<0.01) for blood cadmium levels; gender (p<0.01) for urine arsenic levels; gender, age and concentration in the soil (p<0.01) for blood mercury levels were shown to be the affecting factors.

혼합소스 HVPE에 의해 성장된 In(Al)GaN 층의 특성 (Characterization of In(Al)GaN layer grown by mixed-source hydride vapor phase epitaxy)

  • 혼합소스 HVPE(hydride vapor phase epitaxy) 방법을 이용하여 InGaN 층을 GaN 층이 성장된 사파이어 (0001) 기판 위에 성장하였다. InGaN 층을 성장하기 위해 금속 In에 Ga을 혼합하여 III족 소스로 이용하였으며 V족 소스로는 $NH_3$를 이용하였다. InGaN층은 금속 In에 Ga을 혼합한 소스와 HCl을 흘려 반응한 In-Ga 염화물이 다시 $NH_3$와 반응하도록 하여 성장하였다. XPS 측정을 통해 혼합소스 HVPE 방법으로 성장한 층이 InGaN 층임을 확인할 수 있었다. 선택 성장된 InGaN 층의 In 조성비는 PL과 CL을 통해서 분석하였다. 그 결과 In 조성비는 약 3%로 평가되었다. 또한, 4원 화합물인 InAlGaN 층을 성장하기 위해 In 금속에 Ga과 Al을 혼합하여 III족 소스로 사용하였다. 본 논문에서는 혼합소스 HVPE 방법에 의해 III족 소스물질로 금속 In에 Ga(Al)을 혼합한 소스를 이용하여 In(Al)GaN층을 성장할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 화석연료를 사용하는 선박이나 자동차는 $CO_2$가스를 과대하게 발생하므로 지구 온난화에 영향을 주기 때문에 화석연료 대신 수소를 사용하는 수소연료전지자동차(FCV)가 크게 각광을 받고 있다. 우리나라는 현대자동차가 FCV자동차를 미국, 일본, 독일 등의 선진국들의 자동차회사와 경쟁적으로 개발하고 있다. 수소는 제철소의 코크스 공장, 서유화학공장의 부산물로 얻으며, 석탄, 메탄가스 등을 고온에서 증기와 반응시켜서 메탄 수증기개질법과 압력스윙흡착법 또는 막분리형멤브레인개질 법을 이용한 수소분리형개질방법으로 고순도 수소를 제조하거나 물을 전기분해하여 제조한다. 수소는 전자공업, 금속 및 화학공업, 로켓 연료 및 공장, 병원, 가정용 등의 연료전지시스템이나 FCV의 연료로 사용하고 있다. 수소의 저장은 수소용기에 수소를 압축하는 방법과 액화수소로 저장하는 방법이 일반적이고, 최근 수소화물이나 유기화학하이드라이드법으로 저장하여 수소스테이션에 운반해서 사용한다. 우리나라는 현재 13개소의 수소스테이션이 가동 중에 있으며, 향후 43개소를 설치할 계획이다.

  • Hydrogen has a high potential to be a renewable substitute for fossil fuels, because of its high gravimetric energy density and environment friendliness. In particular, Magnesium have attracted much interest since their hydrogen capacity exceeds that of known metal hydrides. One of the approaches to improve the kinetic is addition of metal oxide. In this paper, the effect of $Fe_2O_3$ concentration on the kinetics of Mg hydrogen absorption reaction was investigated. $MgH_x-Fe_2O_3$ composites have been synthesized by hydrogen induced mechanical alloying. The powder synthesized was characterized by XRD, SEM and simultaneous TG, DSC analysis. The hydrogenation behaviors were evaluated by using a sievert's type automatic PCT apparatus. Absorption and desorption kinetics of Mg catalyzed with 5,10 mass% $Fe_2O_3$ are determined at 423, 473, 523, 573, 623K.

금속수소화물전극의 부식특성에 미치는 합금원소와 결합제의 영향 (Effects of Alloying Elements and Binding Materials on the Corrosion Behavior of Metal Hydride Electrodes)

  • Ni/MH 2차전지의 음극용 금속간화합물전극의 부식특성에 미치는 합금원소와 결합제의 영향을 조사하였다. 전극의 재료는 $(LM)Ni_{4.49}Co_{0.1}Mn_{0.205}Al_{0.205}$$(LM)Ni_{3.6}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}Al_{0.4}$$AB_5$ type합금을 모재로 하였다. 여기에 Si sealant 또는 PTFE를 결합제로 첨가한 것과 원재료 분말에 구리를 20% 무전해도금한 것을 냉간 압착하여 전극을 제조하였다. 부식특성을 조사하기위해 탈공기된 6M의 KOH 용액에서 동전위법과 순환전위법을 이용하여 부식전류와 전류밀도를 측정하였다. 모재에 Co가 많이 함유되면 전극의 내식성을 향상시키고 Ni이 많이 함유되면 충전과 방전을 반복하는 동안에 전극의 안정성을 저하시켰다. 부식전류밀도는 Si sealant를 결합제로 사용한 전극의 경우가 PTFE를 사용한 전극의 경우보다 낮았고 Cu가 도금된 전극은 내식성에서 가장 우수하게 나타났다.

$Zn[BH_4]_2$ 분말의 합성과 열분해 특성 (Synthesis and thermal decomposition of $Zn[BH_4]_2$)

  • [ $Zn(BH_4)_2$ ](8.4 wt% theoretical hydrogen storage capacity powders have been successfully synthesized by mechanochemical reaction from mixtures of $ZnCl_2$ and $NaBH_4$ powders in a 1:2 molar ratio in different times. $$ZnCl_2+2NaBH_4{\rightarrow}Zn(BH_4)_2+2NaCl$$ (1) $Zn(BH_4)_2$ powders were characterized by X-ray diffractometry(XRD), and Furier Transform Infrared spectrometry(FT-IR). The thermal stabilities of $Zn(BH_4)_2$ powders were studied by Differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), Thermogravimetry analysis(TGA), and Mass spectrometry(MS). $Zn(BH_4)_2$ can be tested for hydrogen evolution without further purification. The reaction to yield hydrogen is irreversible, the other products being compounds of Zn, and borane. $Zn(BH_4)_2$ thermally decomposes to release borane and hydrogen gas between about 85 and 150$^{\circ}C$.

  • The compound B(C6F5)3 and its variations have been widely employed as alkyl carbanion abstracting reagents to produce metallocene cations for olefin polymerization.1-3 Weakly coordinating anions containing boron can greatly improve the activity of metallocene catalysts used in industrial olefin polymerization4 and thus group IV and V metallocene complexes of the organohydroborate anions have been intensively investigated.5 Recently, many organohydroborate metallocene complexes have been reported by Shore and co-workers.6-8 A common structural feature of those complexes is the three-center two electron M-H-B bond, like that observed in transition metal tetrahydroborate complexes but the reactivity and fluxional behavior of organohydroborate complexes are unlike those of the tetrahydroborate analogues.6 Although many of those metallocenes have been synthesized, few complexes could be used in the olefin polymerization and then this laboratory has been involved in the chemistry of the cyclic organohydroborate anions, and their group IV metallocene derivatives for the catalyst.9 Described here is recent work that led to the preparation of a novel cyclic organohydroborate hafnocene complex (h5-C5H5)2Hf ?(μ-H)2BC8H14 ,Cl. The hafnocene complex contains the three-center two electron bond Hf-H-B10 in which the hydride abstraction for olefin polymerization may occur.

Ti1-XZrxVNi 및 Ti1-XZrxV0.5Ni1.5계 수소저장합금의 전기화학적 성질 (Electrochemical Properties of Hydrogen Absorbing Ability Ti1-XZrxVNi Ti1-XZrxV0.5Ni1.5 Alloys)

  • Nickel-hydrogen battery systems with metal hydride alloys are expected to have both higher energy density and lower pollution than nickel-cadmium cells. Nickel-hydrogen storage cells are expected to be well-suited for use in space crafts for a large capacity power storage system. Their major advantages are not only a capability of deep DOD(depth of discharge) using but also with excellent durability under excessive overcharging and overdischarging. In this study, the charge/discharge capacities, anodic polarization characteristics and durability for the continious charge/diacharge cycling of the $Ti_{1-X}Zr_XVNi$ and $Ti_{1-X}Zr_XV_{0.5}Ni_{1.5}$ alloys were measured by electrochemical method. The electrode properties of the copper or nickel plated $Ti_{1-X}Zr_XV_{0.5}Ni_{1.5}$ alloys were examined with a battery charge/discharge testing system in the temperature range of -5 to $25^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper present the temperature control of aluminum plate using Peltier element. Peltier effect is heat pumping phenomena by electric energy as one of the thermoelectric effect. So if current is asserted to Peltier element, it absorbs heat from low temperature side and emits to high temperature side. In this experiment, Peltier element is used to control the temperature of small aluminum plate with ON/OFF control scheme and fan ON/OFF. As the result of experiments, it is proper to act fan only while cooling duration and there exist a proper cooling current to drop temperature rapidly. It takes about 100sec to increase to 7$0^{\circ}C$ and drop to 35$^{\circ}C$ of aluminium plate temperature and about 90sec to increase to 7$0^{\circ}C$ and drop to 4$0^{\circ}C$ in ambient temperature 3$0^{\circ}C$ while fan is on only in cooling duration. Future aim is to realize more rapid temperature control and develop SMHA(special metal hydride actuator) by using Peltier element to heating and cooling.

Performance Assessment of a Lithium-Polymer Battery for HEV Utilizing Pack-Level Battery Hardware-in-the-Loop-Simulation System

  • A pack-level battery hardware-in-the-loop simulation (B-HILS) platform is implemented. It consists of dynamic vehicle models using PSAT and multiple control interfaces including real-time 3D driving and GPS mode. In real-time 3D driving mode, user can drive a virtual vehicle using actual drive equipment such as steering wheel and accelerator to generate the cycle profile of the battery. In GPS mode, actual road traffic and terrain effects can be simulated using GPS data while the trajectory is displayed on Google map. In the latter part of the paper, several performance tests of an actual lithium-polymer battery pack are carried out utilizing the developed system. All experiments are conducted as parts of actual development process of a commercial battery pack adopting 2nd generation Prius as a target vehicle model. Through the experiments, the low temperature performance and fuel efficiency of the battery are quantitatively investigated in comparison with the original nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) pack of the Prius.
