When a planing hull straightly runs and turns, its floating position and pitch angle are changed depending on its speed, and large transient motion happens. In this paper, six degrees of freedom(6 DOF) equations of motion, which could simulate the motion of a planing hull, are established. Static and dynamic forces in vertical plane are modeled using pre-calculated displacements and metacentric heights depending on various draft, lift under bottom, and vertical damping coefficients which are used to tune the final motion. Hydrodynamic coefficients in horizontal plane at various equilibrium state are calculated by using Lewandowski's empirical formula and the speed-dependent equilibrium state are calculated beforehand by Savitsky's formula. The speed effects are considered by curve-fitting the coefficients at various speed to the polynomials. Accelerating, decelerating and backing, turning, and zig-zag are simulated and compared with the sea trial results, and it is confirmed that the speed reduction, roll, and pitch during such maneuvers of sea trial and simulation are well consistent.

This study aims the development of a semi-analytic method for the parametric roll of large containerships advancing in longitudinal waves. A 1.5 Degree-of-Freedom(DOF) model is proposed to account the change of transverse stability induced by wave elevations and vertical motions (heave and pitch). By approximating the nonlinearity of restoring moment at large heel angles, the magnitude of roll amplitude is predicted as well as susceptibility check for parametric roll occurrence. In order to increase the accuracy of the prediction, the relationship between righting arm(GZ) and metacentric height(GM) is examined in the presence of incident waves, and then a new formula is proposed. Based on the linear approximation of the mean and first harmonic component of GM, the equation of parametric roll in irregular wave excitations is introduced, and the computational results of the proposed model are validated by comparing those of weakly nonlinear simulation based on an impulse-response-function method combined with strip theory. The present semi-analytic doesn’ t require heavy computational effort, so that it is very efficient particularly when numerous sea conditions for the analysis of parametric roll should be considered.
The growth charateristics and karyotypes of Aster spathulifolius collected from 5 sites including coastal and island region on the Korean peninsula, were analysed. Several morphological characteristics of the plants such as leaf length, leaf width, top internode, medium internode, spike branching, flower diameter, number of petal, leaf color, leaf form, stem and leaf hair, viscosity, and serration of the plants were distinctly different depending on the native region from which they were collected. Karyotypic analysis showed that the chromosome number was all diploid (2n=18), with one pair of submetacentric satellite chromosomes. The chromosome composition included 7 pairs of metacentric chromosomes and 2 pairs of submetacentric chromosomes in all plants. However, chromosome order and the ranges of the chromosome lengths were a little different from plant to plant according to their native growing regions. The plants from Geoje-Do especially showed large differences in the chromosome lengths between the longest and the shortest compared to the plants from other places. This results provide important data to support the classification of the species into several sub-species.
Conventional staining and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) karyotypes of the non-genetically modified (GM) parental rice line, 'Nakdong' (Oryza sativa L. japonica), and its four GM rice lines, LS28 (event LS30-32-20-1), Cry1Ac1 (event C7-1-9-1), and LS28 ${\times}$ Cry1Ac1 (events L/C1-1-3-1 and L/C1-3-1-1) were analyzed using 5S and 45S rDNAs as probes. Both parental and transgenic lines were diploids (2n=24) with one satellite chromosome pair. The lengths of the prometaphase chromosomes ranged from 1.50 to $6.30{\mu}m$. Four submetacentric and eight metacentric pairs comprised the karyotype of 'Nakdong' and its four GM lines. One pair of 5S rDNA signals was detected near the centromeric region of chromosome g in both the parental and transgenic lines. The 45S rDNA signals were detected on the secondary constrictions of the satellite chromosome pair in both the parental and transgenic lines. There was no significant difference in chromosome size, length, and composition between 'Nakdong' and its four GM lines. This research was conducted as a preliminary study for chromosomal detection of transgenes in GM rice lines and would be useful for their breeding programs.

Roll moment usually is ignored when analyzing the maneuverability of surface ships. However, it is well known that the influence of roll moment on maneuverability is significant for ships with small metacentric height such as container ships, passenger ships, etc. In this study, a pure roll test is performed to determine the hydrodynamic derivatives with respect to roll motion as added mass and damping. The target ship is an autonomous surface ship designed to carry containers with a small drift and large freeboard. The commercial code of STAR CCM+ software is applied as a specialized tool in naval hydrodynamic based on RANS equation for simulating the pure roll of the ship. The numerical uncertainty analysis is conducted to verify the numerical accuracy. By distinguishing the in-phase and out-of-phase from hydrodynamic forces and moments due to roll motion, added mass derivatives and damping derivatives relative to roll angular velocity are obtained.

The capsizing speed of an unstable vessel with a lost restoring moment can be understood as a unique response to an accident situation, and is naturally affected by such parameters as moment of inertia, metacentric height, and transverse damping coefficient of the hull in the case of free roll motion. Additionally, it is supposed that the analysis of capsize accidents can be further simplified when a vessel's leaning velocity is shown to be quite low. Therefore, capsize accidents with low leaning speeds are desirably categorized in view of rescuing strategies, as opposed to fast capsize accidents, since the attitude of the declining hull can be properly estimated, which allows rescuers to have more time for helping accident cases. This study focuses on deriving some analytical equations based on the roll decay ratio parameter, which describes how a hull under a low-speed capsize is related to the situational hull characteristics. The suggested equations are applied to a particular ship to disclose the analytical responses from the model ship. It was confirmed that the results show the general characteristics of slow capsizing ships.

The inherent efficiency of a ship would be prior to any other quality factors in ship's safety, because lack of it may give rise to a serious sea casuality even if it were a light mistake in operation. And the representative casualty comes from a deficiency of stability and an operating error combined would be capsizing. The Korean offshore large purseiner looks to have a structural weak point with small range of stability in spite of her big initial metacentric height, and have various type of roll reduction devices in order to cover up the defect. The aim of this study is to grasp for the roll reduction characteristics of the purseiner with bilge keel only and a stern keel additionally attached. The results are summarized as follows; The rolling angle of the model ship was increased in accordance with increase of the wave period and height, especially at close to the natural wave period of her, and the trends were more distinguished in the situation of bilge keel only installation than in the stern keel additionally installed. And stern keel has not noticeable effect on the reduction of the roll in the light ship condition, but has a little effect in full load condition.

Hyaluronic acid (HA)-binding sites have been shown the diagnostic potential fur assessment of sperm maturity, which is related to male fertility. This study was designed to evaluate chromosomal patterns in porcine embryos produced by in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) with non- or HA-binding sperm (HABS). For binding of sperm with HA, sperm incubated in 10 ${mu}ell$ drop containing HA (0.8 mg/ml)-agarose (0.8%) mixture for 15 min. IVF and ICSI with non- or HA-bound sperm examined with matured oocytes at 44 hr after in vitro maturation. Embryos were cultured in 50 ${mu}ell$ of NCSU 23 containing 0.5% BSA for 5 days and then in 50 ${mu}ell$ of NCSU 23 containing 10% FBS for 2 days. For the evaluation of chromosomal aneuploidies, chromosome 1 sub-metacentric specific probe was used in sperm and embryos by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). The frequency of aneuploidy sperm for chromosome 1 was 6.25%. The significant differences following IVF and ICSI with non- or HA-bound sperm were not observed in blastocyst formation rates (18.6, 23.5, and 23.8%) and cell number (61.8 $\pm$ 12.5, 55.5 $\pm$ 7.3, and 59.3 $\pm$ 9.6). Moreover, the percentage of diploidy in 4-cell stage embryos was 57.1% (IVF), 68.8% (ICSI), and 76.3% (ICSI-HABS). These results suggest that HA-binding sites may be a material for selection of normal sperm for ICSI. Therefore HA selection of normal sperm may be reduce the loss to embryonic mortality prior to embryo transfer in pig.
None of the numerous published canine idiograms and karyotypes has yet been generally accepted as a standard one because the dog has 76 acrocentric autosomes of similar size and shape. To establish canine banded karyotype from the 22nd chromosome to the 37th chromosome, we analyzed canine chromosomes by GTG, high resolution, and NOR-banding techniques. The GTG and high resolution banding patterns of canine chromosomes corresponded to other reports described previously except for a few chromosomes. While other researchers observed 12 bands, we observed 7 bands in the banding patterns of chromosome 24, 34 and 37. On the other hand, the banding patterns by NOR-banding technique showed that three pairs of autosomes have nucleolus organizer regions at the terminal ends of their long arm, and the Y chromosome has it in its short arm terminal. However, the X chromosome has no nucleolus organizer like other mammals.

Dual-color fluorescence in situ hybridization karyotype analysis was created using repetitive sequences including two types of rDNA repeats (45S and 5S rDNAs) and Arabidopsis-type telomere sequence repeats. The somatic metaphase cells of Carthamus tinctorius were observed as diploids (2n=2x=24). A symmetrical or slightly asymmetrical karyotype with seven pairs of metacentric and five pairs of submetacentric chromosomes was observed. The lengths of the somatic metaphase chromosomes ranged from 4.18 to $6.53{\mu}m$, with a total length of $60.71{\mu}m$. One locus of 45S rDNA was located on the pericentromeric regions of three pairs of chromosomes and the other pair was situated on the terminal regions of the short arms of a single pair of chromosomes. One locus of 5S rDNA was detected on the interstitial regions of the short arms of two pairs of chromosomes. Arabidopsis-type telomeric repeats were detected on the terminal regions of all pairs of chromosomes. Co-localization of loci between telomeric repeats and 45S rDNA was observed in a single pair of chromosomes. The results provide additional information for the existing physical mapping project of C. tinctorius and will also serve as a benchmark to a more intricate cytogenetic investigation of C. tinctorius and its related species.
