영양교육, 급식 만족도, 잔반, 정신적.신체적 건강에 관한 자각증상간의 관련성 - 대전지역 일부 초등학생을 중심으로 - (The Interrelations among Nutrition Education, Satisfaction with School Lunch, School Lunch Leftovers and Self-rated Mental or Physical Health - The Elementary School Children in Daejeon Area -)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the interrelations among current status of nutrition education, satisfaction with school lunch, school lunch leftovers and self-rated mental or physical health in order to find out the effective method of nutrition education. For this, a questionnaire survey of 623 primary school 5th and 6th-graders in Daejeon area was carried out. The eating places were classrooms (41.1%) and restaurants (58.9%). A 59.2% of students have received nutrition education and the opportunity of receiving nutrition education was more in 5th-graders than in 6thgraders (p < 0.001). The score of nutrition knowledge was $9.4\;{\pm}\;2.8$ out of 15. When the score of nutrition knowledge was higher, the practical use of nutrition knowledge was higher (r = 0.134, p < 0.01); the score of school lunch leftovers were less (r = -0.116, p < 0.01); and the score of self-rated mental health was more positive (r = 0.198, p < 0.01). The practical use of nutrition knowledge was $2.9\;{\pm}\;1.1$ out of 5. When the practical use of nutrition knowledge was higher, satisfaction with school lunch was higher (r = 0.105, p < 0.01); school lunch leftovers were less (r = -0.103, p < 0.01); the score of self-rated positive mental health was higher (r = 0.293, p < 0.01); and the scores of self-rated negative mental health (r = -0.119, p < 0.05) and physical health (r = -0.126, p < 0.01) were lower, thus rating their health more positively. The score of satisfaction with school lunch was $3.4\;{\pm}\;1.0$ out of 5. When the satisfaction with school lunch was higher, the score of school lunch leftovers was less (r = -0.216, p < 0.01); the score of self-rated positive mental health was higher (r = 0.147, p < 0.01); and the score of self-rated negative health was lower (r = -0.121, p < 0.01). The score of school lunch leftovers was $2.9\;{\pm}\;1.4$ out of 5. When the school lunch leftovers were less, self-rated positive mental health was significantly higher (r = -0.146, p < 0.01); and the scores of self-rated negative mental health (r = 0.135, p < 0.01) and physical health (r = 0.223, p < 0.01) were significantly lower, thus presenting positive health. Therefore, in order to maintain positive health condition, it is necessary to carry out nutrition education, which is able to raise the nutrition knowledge and practical use of nutrition knowledge, school lunch satisfaction and to reduce the school lunch leftovers.

한국 청소년의 인터넷중독, 식생활, 신체활동, 정신·심리 상태의 분석: 2010년 청소년건강행태온라인조사를 바탕으로 (Analysis of Internet Addiction, Eating, Physical Activity Behavior and Mental-psychological State among Korean Adolescents: Based on 2010 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Survey)

  • 본 연구는 청소년 인터넷 중독에 대한 식습관, 신체활동, 정신심리상태의 차이와 상관을 규명하기 위해 실시되었다. 73238명의 12-18세 한국청소년을 대상으로 온라인 자기기입식 자료조사가 이루어졌다. 본 연구에서는 식습관, 신체활동, 인지하는 행복감과 정신건강을 묻는 설문내용이 사용되었으며, 자료는 SPSS 14를 이용하여 기술통계, $x^2$-test, ANOVA와 상관관계 분석하였다. 결과 94.5%의 정상군, 2.5%의 잠재적 위험군, 3.0%의 고위험군으로 분류되어 졌으며, 격렬한 운동, 근육강화 운동은 세 그 룹간 차이가 없었다. 식습관, 신체활동, 정신심리 건강과 인터넷 중독은 상관이 있었으며, 식습관, 정신심리건강은 상관을 보이지 않았다. 연구를 통해 청소년 인터넷 중독 예방교육에는 식습관, 신체활동, 정신심리건강이 포함되어야함을 제안한다.

중고등학생의 정신건강과 신체활동과의 관련성 (Relations Between Mental Health and Physical Activities of Middle to High School Students)

  • Objective: The study analyzed degrees of participation in physical activities, demographic and sociological characteristics of middle and high school students, and the relations to mental health related factors, based on "Korea youth risk behavior web-based survey." Therefore, the study can be used as preliminary data for establishing mental health promotion plans for youth and setting contents and directions of health education. Methods: The study analyzed the data, collecting from 75,066 middle and high school students, regarding their demographic and sociological characteristics, mental health, and relations to physical activities by using SPSS Win 15.0. Results: 19.1% of the students answered they had seriously contemplated suicide during the past 12 months, and 43.2% said they are usually under enormous pressure. 55.3% answered that academic achievements and the pressure from future paths are major factors of their stress. The students showed noteworthy differences in whether they think about suicide depending on whether the students live with their father or mother. The study found that the students whose parents' levels of education are low, or their academic records are low, or economic conditions are poor are more likely to think about suicide. The students tend to think more about killing themselves if they spend more time sitting to study than being engaged in physical activities, or spend little time walking. And they are more likely to think about committing suicide if they spend little time exercising, or are not engaged in physical activities on the playground or a gym in PE classes.

초등학교 고학년 학생의 과외학습에 따른 스트레스와 정신건강 (Stress and Mental Health by Extracurricular Learning in upper Grade Elementary School Students)

  • Purpose: In an attempt to investigate the differences in the level of stress & mental health between extracurricular learning group and non-extracurricular learning group and level of stress and mental health by the extracurricular learning-related characteristics, this study was carried out in upper grade elementary students. Method: The subjects were 241 students living in 4 small towns in 4th, 5th and 6th grade elementary students. The data were collected by using the questionnaires, and analyzed by SPSS/WIN 12.0 program. Results: First, 64.7% of subjects were receiving extra-curricular learning, and extracurricular learning contents were the main curriculum and foreign language classes in many cases. Second, there were no differences in the level of stress and mental health between extracurricular learning group and non-extracurricular learning group, but also in the area of stress as physical, mental, emotional and behavioral stress. Third, extra-curricular learning satisfaction and learning effects are the major factor affecting mental and emotional stress and mental health. In other words, the group with high satisfaction and effectiveness by extra-curricular learning was less mentally and emotionally stressed and better for mental health than low group. Also, days per week for extracurricular learning affected physical stress and intention to continue extracurricular learning affected mental stress. Fourth, factors affecting whether the intention to continue extracurricular learning were the sex, decision-makers about whether they receive extracurricular learning, extracurricular learning satisfaction and duration of extracurricular learning. Conclusion: From the above results, The fact that the upper grade elementary school students receiving the extracurricular learning did not affect on the stress and mental health. In case of extracurricular group, the effectiveness and satisfaction about extra-curricular learning were major factors affecting mental and emotional stress as well as mental health.

정신훈련이 운동과제 수행시 정확도에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Mental Practice on Motor Task Performance Accuracy)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of mental practice in increasing accuracy of performance during motor task. Forty healthy students aged 17 years were randomly assigned to two groups. The experimental group(n=20) performed mental practice; the control group(n=20) performed nothing. The task was dotting. No significant change was seen between pre and post test subtest results following mental practice sessions(p>0.05). The experimental group's accuracy improved a little but this was not valuable statistically(p>0.05). We could not prove that mental practice was effective in increasing accuracy of motor task performance.

중년기와 노년기 폐경 여성의 신체활동이 정신건강에 미치는 영향 - 2010년 국민건강영양조사 자료 이용 - (Influences of Physical Activities on Mental Health of Middle and Old Age Menopause Women : Using the 2010 Korea National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey Data)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine the effects of physical activities on mental health of menopausal women. Method: The data was collected from 5th National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. 810 samples of 40 to 64 year age group and 660 samples of 65 and over age group were used. To achieve the results estimated without bias stratification variables and colonies, descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, multiple logistic regression were used. Result: Flexibility exercises showed that it had an effect on stress and suicide intension of menopausal women. On the other hand, vigorous physical activity might be a stress factor of menopausal women. Conclusion: Menopausal women in 65 year and over appeared that they had more beneficial to low-intensity exercise to manage stress or suicide intension. This result will be used to develop the mental health promotion programs for menopausal women.

캐나다 이민자의 정신건강 구조 모형 (A Structural Equation Model on Mental Health of Korean Immigrants in Canada)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to construct a structural equation model that would further explain the mental health status of Korean immigrants living in Canada. Methods: Survey using a structured questionnaire was conducted with 386 people in Canada (Vancouver and Toronto). Six instruments were used in this model. The analysis of data was done with both SPSS 14.0 for descriptive statistics and AMOS 5.0 for covariance structure analysis. Results: Based on the constructed model, physical health status, immigrant life stress, self esteem, and quality of life were found to have significant direct effect on mental health. In addition, factors such as physical health status, immigrant life stress, quality of life, English proficiency, family cohesion and social support were found to indirectly affect mental health. The final modified model yielded Chi-square=34.79 (p<.001), df=13, $x^2$/df=2.68, GFI=0.98, AGFI=0.94, NFI=0.95, PNFI=0.44, PGFI=0.35, RMSE=0.07 and exhibited good fit indices. Conclusion: This structural equation model is a comprehensive theoretical model that explains the related factors and their relationship with mental health in Korean immigrants. Findings of this study can contribute to the designing of an appropriate prevention strategy to further improve the mental health of immigrants in Canada.

  • Purpose: This study was to evaluate the effects of a rehabilitation exercise program on physical function and mental health status in chronic stroke Patients with hemiparesis Method: This study used a single group experimental design with repeated measures. Data collection and intervention were done from August, 2004 to November. 2004 at a community. Participants were fifteen patients (mean age: 68.6), and a 100 meter walking time and box and block tests were conducted at baseline, 4weeks, and post-intervention (8weeks) Activities of daily living and the levels of depression and anxiety were measured by using SCL-90-R at pre and post Intervention. This program consisted of 1 hour individual exercise 3 times a week for 8 weeks, and it focused on stretching, walking, arm and hand exercise, and hand massage. Result: 1. ADL, IADL, and the 100m walking time in the patients were improved compared with baseline. However. box and block tests was not shown significant improvement compared with baseline. 2. Depression and anxiety scores were improved more than that of baseline. Conclusion: The rehabilitation exercise program can be effective in improving physical function and mental health status, and it has a potential for improving Physical health status in Patients with chronic stroke hemiparesis.

Exploring the Efficacy of Short-term Mental Health Healing Programs: A Case Study of Civil Servants in Jeonnam

  • In the field of mental health care, long-term healing programs have gained widespread recognition for their effectiveness in promoting well-being. However, the efficacy of shorter-term interventions, such as 1-night 2-day programs, remains relatively understudied. The primary objective of this initiative is twofold: firstly, to enhance the overall well-being and resilience of participants, and secondly, to investigate the program's potential to ameliorate specific mental health indicators. These indicators include physical stress levels, autonomic nervous system health, brain activity, brain stress, and concentration. A 1-night 2-day mental health healing program was implemented for 560 civil servants from Jeollanam-do (mean age 47.87 yrs). The focus was on measuring changes through baseline assessments before participation and post-program assessments upon completion. Measurements included physical stress index, autonomic nervous system health, brain activity level, brain stress, and brain concentration. There was a significant decrease in physical stress, as well as a significant decrease in autonomic nervous system health (p<0.05). Although there was no significant difference in brain activity level, there was a tendency for brain activity level to stabilize in the high-frequency range. Additionally, a significant decrease in stress levels and an improvement in concentration were observed. Incorporating 1-night 2-day relaxation programs into our daily lives offers a holistic approach to caring for both our physical and mental health, providing essential moments of rejuvenation and self-care that contribute to overall well-being and fulfillment.

Analysis of Mental Health Level and Life Satisfaction According to the Amount of Physical Activity and Muscular Strength Level

  • Objective: About one-third of college students are exposed to stress to the point that their academic performance is negatively affected. To provide useful information for managing the mental health of young people by analyzing the perceived stress level, depression level, and life satisfaction according to the amount of physical activity and the level of muscular strength in male college students. Design: A cross-sectional study. Methods: Among 304 students who participated in the health exercise class at Sahmyook University in Seoul, the amount of physical activity and the level of muscular strength were divided into 3 quartiles, respectively, and the perceived stress level, depression level, and life satisfaction were analyzed through one-way ANOVA. The physical activity level and muscle strength level of the subjects were ranked, divided into 3 groups, and the difference in variables according to the group was verified. Results: There was no difference in perceived stress level, depression level, and life satisfaction according to the amount of physical activity, but statistically significant differences were shown in perceived stress scale(p=0.008) and life satisfaction(p=0.030) according to muscular strength. Conclusions: Policies to increase physical activity are important to improve and manage the mental health of young people, but it is judged to be more meaningful to provide an environment that can improve muscular strength.
