A personal authentication system based on biosignals has received increasing attention due to its relatively high security as compared to traditional authentication systems based on a key and password. Electrocardiography (ECG) measured from the chest or wrist is one of the widely used biosignals to develop a personal authentication system. In this study, we investigated the feasibility of using similar ECG measured behind the ears to develop a personal authentication system. To this end, similar ECGs were measured from thirty subjects using a pair of three electrodes attached behind each of the ears during resting state during which the standard Lead-I ECG was also simultaneously measured from both wrists as baseline ECG. The three ECG components, Q, R, and S, were extracted for each subject as classification features, and authentication accuracy was estimated using support vector machine (SVM) based on a 5×5-fold cross-validation. The mean authentication accuracies of Lead I-ECG and similar ECG were 90.41 ± 8.26% and 81.15 ± 7.54%, respectively. Considering a chance level of 3.33% (=1/30), the mean authentication performance of similar ECG could demonstrate the feasibility of using similar ECG measured behind the ears on the development of a personal authentication system.
Purpose: This article examined the affecting factors of a malocclusion status of a patient for orthodontic treatment, orthodontics medical expenses and oral health behavior on orthodontic satisfaction. Methods: This paper conducted a survey from the 15th of July to 30th of September 2012 for the patients who were under orthodontic treatment at three dental clinics where are in Deagu, and distributed a total of 210 questionnaires and analyzed 194 questionnaires, excepting for some questionnaires that were answered unfaithfully. Results: This study classified the related factors into a feeling of satisfaction with treatment and mental satisfaction for finding orthodontic satisfaction. There were the effect of the right tooth-brushing method, a periodic scaling and orthodontics medical expenses on a feeling of satisfaction with treatment, and power of explanation was 16.7%. Conclusion: There were the effect of a malocclusion status, matters that requires attention during orthodontic treatment, a periodic scaling during orthodontic treatment and orthodontics medical expenses on mental satisfaction, and power of explanation was 16.9%. Based on the result above, this paper concluded that preventive treatment and early treatment should be emphasized through developing a program for regular oral examination suited to each medical type, including the method for improving the medical treatment condition and care service for increasing orthodontic satisfaction, which the dental medical-service providers could consider the patients and secure trust.

Retinols are metabolized into retinoic acids by alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and retinaldehyde dehydrogenase (Raldh). However, their roles have yet to be clarified in hepatitis despite enriched retinols in hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). Therefore, we investigated the effects of retinols on Concanavalin A (Con A)-mediated hepatitis. Con A was injected into wild type (WT), Raldh1 knockout ($Raldh1^{-/-}$), $CCL2^{-/-}$ and $CCR2^{-/-}$ mice. For migration study of regulatory T cells (Tregs), we used in vivo and ex vivo adoptive transfer systems. Blockade of retinol metabolism in mice given 4-methylpyrazole, an inhibitor of ADH, and ablated Raldh1 gene manifested increased migration of Tregs, eventually protected against Con A-mediated hepatitis by decreasing interferon-${\gamma}$ in T cells. Moreover, interferon-${\gamma}$ treatment increased the expression of ADH3 and Raldh1, but it suppressed that of CCL2 and IL-6 in HSCs. However, the expression of CCL2 and IL-6 was inversely increased upon the pharmacologic or genetic ablation of ADH3 and Raldh1 in HSCs. Indeed, IL-6 treatment increased CCR2 expression of Tregs. In migration assay, ablated CCR2 in Tregs showed reduced migration to HSCs. In adoptive transfer of Tregs in vivo and ex vivo, Raldh1-deficient mice showed more increased migration of Tregs than WT mice. Furthermore, inhibited retinol metabolism increased survival rate (75%) compared with that of the controls (25%) in Con A-induced hepatitis. These results suggest that blockade of retinol metabolism protects against acute liver injury by increased Treg migration, and it may represent a novel therapeutic strategy to control T cell-mediated acute hepatitis.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has become a public health emergency of global concern. In China, traditional Chinese medicine has been widely administered to COVID-19 patients without sufficient evidence. To evaluate the efficacy of Shenhuang Granule (SHG) for treating critically ill patients with COVID-19, we included in this study 118 patients who were admitted to the ICU of Tongji Hospital between January 28, 2020 and March 28, 2020. Among these patients, 33 (27.9%) received standard care plus SHG (treatment group) and 85 (72.1%) received standard care alone (control group). Enrolled patients had a median (IQR) age of 68 (57-75) years, and most (79 [67.1%]) were men. At end point of this study, 83 (70.3%) had died in ICU, 29 (24.5%) had been discharged from ICU, and 6 patients (5.2%) were still in ICU. Compared with control group, mortality was significantly lower in treatment group (45.4% vs. 80%, p < .001). Patients in treatment group were less likely to develop acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) (12 [36.3%] vs. 54 [63.5%], p = 0.012) and cardiac injury (5 [15.1%] vs. 32 [37.6%], p = 0.026), and less likely to receive mechanical ventilation (22 [66.7%] vs. 72 [84.7%], p = 0.028) than those in control group. The median time from ICU admission to discharge was shorter in treatment group (32 [20-73] days vs. 76 [63-79] days, p = 0.0074). These findings suggest that SHG treatment as a complementary therapy might be effective for critically ill adults with COVID-19 and warrant further clinical trials.

Through diversification of 4th industries and transportation and globalization, tourism was developed for medical purposes, not limited to touring tourist attractions. The trend of medical tourism in Korea is shifting from large and medium-sized hospitals to professional medical services in one area of small hospitals rather than professional medical services. However, small hospitals lack medical coordinators and interpretation services, and tourists who visit Korea for treatment lack information on small hospitals. Therefore, a platform is needed to match small hospitals with medical tourists. In this study, using Platform as a Service (Paas) in cloud computing, clinic administrators can access the app to introduce information about their hospitals with simple manipulations. Tourists also want to propose a customized platform to select the right area for them to check information about small-scale hospitals and choose the treatment and tourist attractions they wants. In this study, using Platform as a Service (Paas) in cloud computing, clinic administrators can access the app to introduce information about their hospitals with simple manipulations.
The hospital biomedical engineering team is responsible for establishing and regulating the Medical Device Management Program (MEMP) to ensure that medical devices are safe and reliable. As technology advances, medical devices such as artificial intelligence and precision medicine are developing into a form that allows connection between objects anytime, anywhere, and as various technologies converge, internal and external security threats continue to increase. In this paper, we present a study of the Medical Device Management Program (Secure-MEMP) method, considering that the security threat of medical devices continues to increase due to advances in technology.
Medical information is one of significant private information that includes in-dividual's own diverse information. Once opened, it exposes one's health condition and medical history to a third party, which could bring about serious troubles. On this account, the third parties are of much concerns about the information. If medical information collected through various routes is used with another purpose, oilier than the initial intention, it might cause serious results beyond one's control. Thus, it is essential to keep the information confidential. Also, the discrimination based on the medical information ought to be banned because it is likely to happen that exposed information socially stigmatizes a person, being discriminated in a work place or a school when he/she is employed or gets an insurance. In the current system, only medical institutions are responsible for protecting or securing medical records. Despite the information technology development and the increased interests in medical information, there are quite a few limitations in legal, technical, and administrative aspects. All kinds of organizations, involved in collecting and using the information, as well as medical institutions primarily producing and managing it should share the responsibilities.

The Korean medical device industry has increased dramatically due to various investments in the domestic medical device industry and the introduction of new technologies, but the domestic medical device usage rate in great hospital is still low. In this paper, improvement point for domestic medical device was suggested by domestic medical device usage rate and user and manager's perception survey in great hospitals in Korea. To do this, a survey on the types of medical devices and domestic medical device usage rates were conducted at four national university hospitals in Korea. From this results, the priority survey medical devices were selected. Improvements of Korean medical devices were suggested by failure mode analysis and user awareness surveys for the priority survey medical devices.
In this paper, we developed a temperature measurement system based on an infrared temperature imaging module for thermal safety verification of a plasma skin treatment device (PSTD). We tested a pilot product of the low-temperature PSTD using the system, and the temperature increase of each plasma torch was well-monitored in real-time. Additionally, through the approximation of the temperature increase of the plasma torches, a certain limitation of the plasma treatment time on skin was established with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) guideline. We determined an appropriate plasma treatment time ($T_{Safe}$ < 24 minutes) using the configured temperature measurement system. We believe that the temperature measurement system has a potential to be employed for testing thermal safety and suitability of various medical devices and industrial instruments.
