스파이럴 그루브 드라이 가스 시일의 윤활 성능해석 - Part I: 유한요소 해석 및 기본 성능평가 (Lubrication Performance Analyses of Spiral Groove Dry Gas Seals - Part I: EE Analysis and Basic Performance Evaluation)

  • In this study a general Galerkin FE lubrication analysis method for the compressible Reynolds equation in cylindrical coordinates is presented. Then, the method is applied for analyzing lubrication performances of spiral groove dry gas seals. The effects of toning and number of groove on performance indices are evaluated at low and high rotating speeds: 3,600 and 15,000 rpm. Results show that, for the primary design consideration performances such as the opening force and axial and angular stiffnesses, a negative or small coning and a large number of groove are preferred.

  • The tribological properties of ceramics are very important in the application to engineering ceramic parts such as seal rings, pump parts, thread guides, and so on. In this study, the effects of graphite addition on the mechanical and tribological properties of alumina/graphite composites were investigated. The composites were prepared by the adding of graphite powder to the mixture of Al2O3, talc and calcium carbonate. Bending strength, water absorption, friction coefficient, the amount of worn out material at a certain time, and maximum surface roughness(Rmax) of the prepared composites were measured. Crystalline phases and microstructure were examined with XRD and SEM. The melt of Al2O3-CaO-MgO-SiO2 system was shown over 10 vol% graphite composition. As the amount of the graphite is increased, needle like crystals of mullite were formed and grown. We obtained the good properties of friction coefficients and wear resistance at the powder composition containing 15 vol% of graphite.

  • The main reason for reviewing the condensate water return system in the auxiliary steam system is to obtain the thermal high efficiency of the power plant and thus save the fossil energy in power plant. This study intends to analyze the thermal efficiency of the power plant and predict the increasing in the generator output by the return system reformation of auxiliary steam line in the thermal power plant.

  • In the present study, degradation characteristics of pumps in nuclear power plants were investigated to provide the information of degradation mechanism and stressors. The failure records of pumps for the periods 2000 to 2006 on INPO(Institute of Nuclear Power Operations) EPIX(Equipment Performance and Information Exchange System) DB were reviewed. The 1,834 failure records reveal that the critical areas of pump failures are bearing, mechanical seal, gasket/o-ring, shaft, impeller, coupling and packing. Based on the failure rate of critical areas, the important degradation mechanism and stressors were determined. Additionally, the relationship between degradation mechanism and stressors such as wear was examined. Finally, the monitoring parameters related to degradation and stressors were discussed for the future development of degradation evaluation and prognosis technology of pumps.

  • Various welding methods such as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding(GTAW), magnetic force electrical resistance welding and Laser Beam Welding(LBW) are now available for end cap closure of nuclear fuel rods. Even though the resistance and GTA welding processes are widely used in manufacturing commercial fuel rods, they can not be recommended for the remote seal welding of fuel rods in the hot cell Facility due to the complexity of the electrode alignment, the difficulty in replacing parts in a remote manner and the large heat input for the thin sheath. Therefore, the Nd:YAG laser system using optical fiber transmission was selected for the end cap welding of irradiation fuel rods in the hot cell. The remote laser welding apparatus in the hot cell Facility was developed using a pulsed Nd:YAG laser of 500 watt average power with an optical fiber transmission. The weldment quality such as microstructure and mechanical strength was satisfactory. The optimum conditions of laser welding for encapsulating irradiation fuel rods in the hot cell were obtained.

  • This paper shows a perfonnance analysis for pneumatic servo cylinder. The pistons without seal have partly cylindrical and conical shapes. 2 dimensional Reynolds equation and FD(finite differential) numerical techniques are utilized for the perfonnance analysis. The relationship among self-centering forces and leakage flows are investigated. Also, optimal design values for a servo cylinder are presented. A prototype of servo cylinder which had rod bearing with four pockets, five pockets, and six pockets was manufactured respectively.

  • 교반기나 펌프등의 회전기계에서의 트러블은 베어링 부분의 파손이나 결함보다는 미케니컬시일(이하 시일이라 한다)의 이상상태로 인한 액이나 기체의 누설에 의한 경우가 많다. 기계 또는 설비의 가동중에 이 실일의 고장은 단순히 시일 자체뿐만 아니라 설비 전체의 파손을 야기하고 시스템의 가동 중단으로 생산 계획에 막대한 차질을 가져오기 때문에 시일이 장착된 시스템에서는 시일의 이상상태에 대한 관리, 감시가 중요한 문제가 되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 온도와 토오크의 출력변화를 온라인 센싱 하고이들 센싱정보를 통합처리하여 시일의 이상 상태를 진단하는 방법에 대해 검토하였다. 센싱정보의 통합처리 모델로는 예측기능을 갖는 다충신경회로망을 이용하였다.

  • A typical clutch system for automotive manual transmissions transfers hydraulic pressure generated by driver's pedal manipulation to the clutch diaphragm spring. The foot effort history during the period of push is different than the period of the clutch pedal's return. The effort or load difference is called clutch foot effort hysteresis. It is known that the hysteresis is caused by friction. The frictional force and moment are produced between various component contact points such as between the rubber seal and the inner wall inside the hydraulic cylinder and between the diaphragm spring and the pressure plate, etc. Understanding the clutch pedal foot effort hysteresis is essential for a clutch release system design and analysis. The dynamic model for a clutch release system is developed for the foot effort hysteresis prediction and a simulation analysis is performed to propose a tool for analysing a clutch system.

UV 개질된 PMMA 미세유체 장치의 열가소성 폴리머 용융 접합 (Thermoplastic Fusion Bonding of UV Modified PMMA Microfluidic Devices)

  • Thermoplastic fusion bonding is widely used to seal polymer microfluidic devices and optimal bonding protocol is required to obtain a successful bonding, strong bonding force without channel deformation. Besides, UV modification of the PMMA (poly-methyl methacrylate) is commonly used for chemical or biological application before the bonding process. However, study of thermal bonding for the UV modified PMMA was not reported yet. Unlike pristine PMMA, the optimal bonding parameters of the UV modified PMMA were $103^{\circ}C$, 71 kPa, and 35 minutes. A very low aspect ratio micro channel (AR=1:100, $20{\mu}m$ depth and $2000{\mu}m$ width) was successfully bonded (over 95%, n>100). Moreover, thermal bonding of multi stack PMMA chips was successfully demonstrated in this study. The results may applicable to fabricate a complex 3 dimensional microchannel networks.

고성능 씰리스 실린더의 해석 및 누설유량 시험 (An Analysis and Test for Leakage Flow of Sealless Cylinder)

  • The cylinder without seal has a piston with air bearing which is partly cylindrical and conical shape. The description of system geometry is deviation by the flow rate equation. Then pressure distribution and bearing force equations are derived. Several non-dimensional parameters are suggested. The relationship among bearing force, leakage flow and geometry of the bearing is investigated by simulation. And determination method for optimal design of sealless cylinder is given. A prototype of sealless cylinder which had rod bearing with four pockets, five pockets, and six pockets was built respectively. As a result of leakage flow test, it is evaluation to air bearing in sealless cylinder.
