A Lead Extrusion Damper (LED) is experimentally studied under various frequencies and displacement amplitudes. Experimental results show that the force-displacement hysteresis loops of the LED are close to rectangular and the force-velocity hysteresis loops exhibit nonlinear hysteretic characteristic. Also, the LED can provide consistent energy dissipation without any stiffness degradation. Based on the experimental results, a mathematical model is then proposed to describe the effects of frequency and displacement on property of LED. It can be proved from the comparison between experimental and numerical results that the mathematical model can accurately describe the mechanical behavior of LED. Subsequently, the seismic responses of the Schwedler reticulated shell structure with LEDs are analyzed by ANSYS software, in which three different installation forms of LEDs are considered. It can be concluded that the LED can effectively reduce the displacement and acceleration responses of this type of structures.
To automate cooking processes, quantitative descriptions are needed on how quality parameters, such as texture change during heating. Understanding mechanical property changes in foods during thermal treatment due to changes in chemical composition or physical structure is important in the context of engineering models and in precise control of quality in general. Texture degradation of food materials has been studied widely and softening kinetic parameters have been reported in many studies. For a better understanding of kinetic parameters, applied kinetic models were investigated, then rate constants at $100^{\circ}C$ and activation energy from previous kinetic studies were compared. The food materials are hardly classified into similar softening kinetics. The range of parameters is wide regardless of food types due to the complexity of food material, different testing methods, sample size, and geometry. Kinetic parameters are essential for optimal process design. For broad and reliable applications, kinetic parameters should be generated by a more consistent manner so that those of foods could be compared or grouped.
The goal of study was to investigate the influence of the acrylated urethane oligomer on mechanical properties, the chemical resistance and thermal resistance of the UV curable urethane acrylate coatings for fancy veneer overlayed plywood flooring. The pencil hardness and abrasion resistance of the coated fancy veneer overlayed plywood floorings increased with increasing the acrylate functionality of the acrylated urethane oligomer. In the case of the UV cured film containing hexa-functional acrylated aliphatic urethane oligomer, high discoloration of the coated fancy veneer overlayed plywood flooring was observed near the cracks at the beginning of the chemical treatment. In this study, it was found that the degradation of the UV cured film caused by an alkaline reagent was higher than that of the UV cured film caused by an acidic treatment.

An attempt was made to evaluate the degree of aging degradation in thermally aged 2.25Cr-1Mo steel by electrical resistivity measurement. Artificial aging was performed to simulate the microstructural degradation in 2.25Cr-1Mo steel arising from long time exposure at $540^{\circ}C$. Microstructural parameter (amount of solid solution element), mechanical property (ductile-brittle transition temperature) and electrical resistivity were measured to investigate the mutual relationship among these parameters. Depletion of solid solution element(Mo and Cr) in matrix was detected after aging. The ductile-brittle transition temperature(DBTT) increased rapidly in the initial stage of aging and then saturated afterward. On the other hand, the electrical resistivity decreased rapidly in the beginning and then saturated in the later stage of aging.

The PLGA(Poly lactide-co-glycolide) Copolymer have been actively applied to the medical implant material as biomaterials. PLGA membrane was able to alveoloplasty with osteotomy for favorable degradation characteristics and possibilities for sustained drug delivery. In this study, PLGA membrane was prepared using phase inversion method, and examined to optical method analysis(NMR, IR), mechanical property measurement (tearing strength) and thermal characteristic analysis(DSC). In addition, the biodegradation characteristics of the PLGA membrane filled with a PBS(Phosphate Buffered Solution) of the water bath ($60^{\circ}C$) according to the degree of surface degradation in the degradation time, the pH change of the solution and change of the mass of the membrane were measured.
With the aim of assessing the degradation of Zr-2.5Nb pressure tubes operating in the Wolsong unit-1 nuclear power plant, characterization tests are being conducted on irradiated Zr-2.5Nb tubes removed after 10-year operation. The examined tube had been exposed to temperatures ranging from 264 to 306℃ and a neutron fluence of 8.9×$10^{21}$ n/cm²(E>1 MeV) at the maximum. Tensile tests were carried out at temperatures ranging from RT to 300℃. The density of a-type and c-type dislocations was examined on the irradiated Zr-2.5Nb tube using a transmission electron microscope. Neutron irradiation up to 8.9×$10^{21}$ n/cm²(E>1 MeV) yielded an increase in a-type dislocation density of the Zr-2.5Nb pressure tube to 7.5×$10^{14} m^{-2}$, which was highest at the inlet of the tube exposed to the low temperature of 275℃. In contrast, the c-component dislocation density did not change with irradiation, keeping an initial dislocation density of 0.8×$10^{14} m^{-2}$ over the whole length of the tube. As expected, the neutron irradiation increased mechanical strength by about 17-26% in the transverse direction and by 34-39% in the longitudinal direction compared to that of the unirradiated tube at 300℃. The change in the mechanical properties with irradiation is discussed in association with the microstructural change as a function of temperature and neutron fluence.
The creep property of salt rock significantly influences the long-term stability of the salt rock underground storage. Triaxial creep tests were performed to investigate the creep behavior of salt rock. The test results indicate that the creep of salt rock has a nonlinear characteristic, which is related to stress level and creep time. The higher the stress level, the longer the creep time, the more obvious the nonlinear characteristic will be. The elastic modulus of salt rock decreases with the prolonged creep time, which shows that the creep damage is produced for the gradual expansion of internal cracks, defects, etc., causing degradation of mechanical properties; meanwhile, the creep rate of salt rock also decreases with the prolonged creep time in the primary creep stage, which indicates that the mechanical properties of salt rock are hardened and strengthened. That is to say, damage and hardening exist simultaneously during the creep of salt rock. Both the damage effect and the hardening effect are considered, an improved Maxwell creep model is proposed by connecting an elastic body softened over time with a viscosity body hardened over time in series, and the creep equation of which is deduced. Creep test data of salt rock are used to evaluate the reasonability and applicability of the improved Maxwell model. The fitting curves are in excellent agreement with the creep test data, and compared with the classical Burgers model, the improved Maxwell model is able to precisely predict the long-term creep deformation of salt rock, illustrating our model can perfectly describe the creep property of salt rock.
In this study, for a radiator hose made of carbon black filled EPDM(ethylene-propylene diene monomer) rubber, a measuring method of crosslink density was established to analyze the aging behaviors under thermo-oxidative stresses. At $125^{\circ}C$, the crosslink density of the rubber specimens decreased slightly in the initial stage, but increased with increasing the aging time. Such variation in crosslink density was similar to that of tensile strength. This might be due to the formation of sulphoxide crosslinks as well as to additional crosslinks made by the reaction of unvalcunized sulfurs. A high temperature aging of rubber specimens at $180^{\circ}C$ caused a slight increase in crosslink density while it did a large decrease in tensile strength and elongation. With aging at high temperature, the formation of carbonyl groups in EPDM molecule chain and formation of sulphoxide crosslink, rather than the crosslink density variation itself, had a large influence on such changes in mechanical property.

At elevated temperature, very complex precipitations occur in STS316. To investigate the effect of the precipitation on mechanical properties in SIS316, tensile tests and fatigue crack growth tests were carried out at $650^{\circ}C$ using artificially degraded materials. The material degradation was simulated by aging for up to 20000 hrs. at $750^{\circ}C$, which is equal to 179000hrs (about 20yrs) of service life at $650^{\circ}C$, after conducting solution treatment for 20 min. at $11300^{\circ}C$. The result of the hardness test and the tensile test showed that both properties are closely related to the mean free distance of carbides. Also, from the results of fracture tests at $650^{\circ}C$, ${\triangle}K_{th}$, after values were found to decrease as aging time and microstructure, as the volume fraction of $\sigma$ phase increased.
Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) is a metastable form of amorphous carbon that have superior material properties such as high mechanical hardness, chemical inertness, abrasion resistance, and biocompatibility. Furthermore, its material properties can be tuned by additional doping such as nitrogen or boron. However, either pure DLC or doped DLC show poor adhesion property that makes it difficult to apply contact processing technique. Therefore we propose ultrafast laser micromachining which is non-contact precision process without mechanical degradation. In this study, we developed precision machining process of DLC thin film using an ultrafast laser by investigating the process window in terms of laser fluence and laser wavelength. We have also demonstrated various patterns on the film without generating any microcracks and debris.
